Story
TIME SENSITIVE! SPECIAL NEEDS! Trisha needs a home SOON! Remember Trisha? She came to us from a shelter a couple months ago. She was hit by a car about 6 months before being taken to the shelter but her owner didn't take her to the vet. We quickly learned that she is incontinent because the end of her spinal cord is severed. Trisha is happy, and playful and loves attention. She is not good with cats or any dog who seems dominant at all and may be most successful as an only pet. She loves people and would most likely be just fine with kids! Trisha would be happy and manageable in a home with a fenced yard for her to spend the day in. She could wear a diaper to come inside for family time and sleep in a crate at night. She will be more prone to urinary tract infections and will need regular medical care. We love Trisha and hope we can find someone else who will adore her and be able to manage her needs. Trisha has been spayed and vaccinated and we are happy to waive her adoption fee. Trisha is about 4 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. Apply NOW at www.augustadogadoptions.org. Trisha is located near Staunton,Va.

Fiona is approximately 3 years old, beagle hound mix just under 25 lbs full grown. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##1804682##

Story
I'm the marvelous Milo!!!! I am a 6-year-old Basset mix, with the softest fluffiest fur you'll ever feel. BROOD is helping me find my forever home for the second time. I was initially adopted in 2017, but my family moved recently and couldn't take me with them. I know I don't have a lot of the typical Basset features like long ears and a low body, but I do have the sweet loving loyal personality of a faithful hound.I am house-trained and can use a doggie door. My foster family has never had to crate me because I am very well-behaved and can be trusted to not make a mess. I am very smart and know lots of words. I take cues from my foster family and know when my foster mom gets her walking shoes on that it is time to go and get so excited. When I see her pick up her backpack, I know it's time for a ride in the car to someplace new and will jump for joy to go on an adventure! I am easy to care for and don't require much to be happy. I love tennis balls and usually carry one with me wherever I go. (Be sure to check out my video!) I am a good sleeper and gladly wait for my family to wake in the morning before starting my day. I like taking a few short walks a day but I'm not one for all this nasty heat. Sometimes on very hot days, I just have to put my feet down and say no! I'm looking for a quiet calm family to love and appreciate me. I need a home without cats as I tend to chase them. I need to be the only dog in the home as the energy level of other dogs is usually too intense for me. I love children as long as they are old enough to understand proper interactions with dogs. Loud noises will startle me so I'd not do well in an apartment or a busy city environment. I am scared of thunderstorms and do take medication to help me deal with the stress of the noise.I have been with BROOD for over 300 days now and I think it is time that I lay down roots with a new family who will love me like I deserve. Will that be you? Please contact BROOD today. My adoption fee is sponsored by a BROOD supporter who hopes I will be adopted soon.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 08/12/2023

Story
I am an honorary Basset named Fannie Mae. I have seen quite a bit in my 10 years of life and am looking forward to settling down with a family to love me and enjoy my senior years. I came to BROOD a few months ago after I was found to be living in neglectful conditions and in a bad situation. I couldn't see a way out and thought I'd be forgotten. Now I have a sparkle in my eye and a smile on my face, knowing my future is going to be full and bright!!!!I am house-trained and crate trained. I am very calm and laid back and make a great walking buddy, with a little jog every once in a while. I love going on walks and, don't let my age fool you, am used to getting about 3-4 miles in every day! I'd love to have a home with a fenced-in yard for me to run and play in. I can be rather agile and have been known to sneak through some rather narrow areas, or a barely opened door, so the fence needs to be very secure. I love people and children but might be best in a home with kids over 10. I can be a sound sleeper and startle when suddenly woken from a deep sleep. So best for me to be around children old enough to know to let sleeping dogs lie. I am quiet and usually only bark if I see another dog, trying to get their attention. I'd be great as an apartment dog, as long as I got in some long walks. I can get into some mischief and chase after small critters. I guess there's some foxhound in my genes. I definitely have the stomach of a Basset and can counter-surf when I smell something tasty. I snuck away with a whole loaf of bread once!!! I love to just chill with my family but do enjoy playing games of keep-away with my foster dad's socks!I may not look like a traditional Basset, but I have the heart and soul of a loving faithful friend to always be by your side. I am gentle, sweet and happy all the time, with a smile fixed on my face. And maybe a little tongue out too!!!! Please don't pass me by, I am ready for my best life!!! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
I'm a Barbie girl, in a Basset world!!! That's right, my name is Barbie and I am a Basset-Beagle mix, or Bagel if you prefer, and am about 8 years old. I came to BROOD after my owner passed away. Friends and family were able to find homes for all my other brothers and sisters but no one wanted me. Now BROOD is helping me to find a forever home that can love and appreciate a sweet, gentle soul like me.I am crate-trained and can happily snooze the day away waiting on your return. I am working on my house training. My foster mom said I have selective hearing and can easily ignore her when I am being extra stubborn and don't want to listen. I don't need much to be happy and am very easy to care for. A few short trips outside to sniff or a short walk around the block is enough for me.Although I am rather independent, I do love other dogs and children. I enjoy my own space so would be best with children old enough to understand I don't always want to play. I love a big chewy bone to gnaw on. I am quiet and usually only bark to greet my family when they come home. I'd be a great apartment companion due to my small size and soft voice. I do have a bit of wanderlust so any fenced area needs to be secure to deter me from testing my boundaries to see if the grass really is greener on the other side. I love blankets and will work to get them positioned just right for a nice long siesta or a quick nap in the sun. I am a champ at sleeping, and snoring! I am a hearty eater at mealtime and will dance and prance with excitement when my foster mom is getting dinner ready. You may notice in my photos that I recently had surgery. I had a very large cyst that was easily removed. It won't grow back and will require no additional treatment.I am an easy to love, simple gal that is sure to melt your heart! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions).
