Story
Penelope—affectionately known as Peepee—is a sweet but sassy little girl who has come a long way from her feral beginnings. She’s discovered the comforts of indoor life and has fully embraced them, especially when it comes to blankets. Penelope loves to curl up on the couch and will happily spend hours snuggled nearby. While she’s still learning to trust human touch, Penelope does best with patience and compassion. She prefers to lie close to her person rather than be petted, and she’ll let you know when she’s feeling overwhelmed. Her confidence continues to grow at her own pace, and with time, her comfort around people keeps improving. Penelope has a playful side too—she loves squeaky toys, though she’s a bit bashful about it. Don’t be surprised if you only hear her playing once you’ve left the room. She will make her opinions known, however. If her water bowl is empty, dinner is late, or another dog is misbehaving, her adorable grumbly barks will quickly get your attention. She’s making great progress learning to walk on a leash, but she’s just as happy sunbathing or quietly observing the world from a distance. Penelope will need continued support to become comfortable with grooming and vet visits. She has a lovely, gentle temperament and gets along well with dogs of all sizes and sexes—she currently lives with a pack of five Cane Corsos. Though shy around strangers, she does not bark or bite to communicate. And with her signature Dobby ears and panda eyes, Penelope has a way of stealing hearts without even trying. Penelope is looking for a calm, understanding home that will allow her to continue blossoming at her own pace. 💛

Story
Meet Belinda 🩷 | Foster Needed Belinda is a petite, young pup who came to us from a heartbreaking hoarding situation. She had been confined in a small, filthy outdoor pen with little to no access to clean water, food, or meaningful interaction with people or other dogs. She lived surrounded by waste, without ever being given the chance to truly live. When we rescued Belinda, she was scared but never aggressive—just desperate to escape the life she’d known. Since arriving at our boarding partner, she’s already begun to show signs of hope and progress. While still nervous, she follows her human friends with quiet curiosity, watching their every move and slowly realizing she might finally be safe. Because of her isolated past, Belinda can be unsure around other dogs and may act defensively at first. But if they respect her space, she learns to trust—and often ends up following them around, using their confidence as a guide to navigate this new world. Belinda is ready for her next big step: a foster home. Boarding has given her safety and structure, but nothing compares to the healing that happens in a real home. A foster environment will help her grow in ways that boarding simply can’t—and it will give her the best chance at finding her forever family. Belinda just needs someone patient, kind, and willing to show her that the world isn’t so scary after all. Could that be you?

Story
Meet Joey 💛 Joey didn’t grow up knowing the comforts of home. Left to survive on his own for years, he learned to be cautious — and for good reason. But Joey is proving that even after a hard start, growth is possible. In the last few months, we’ve watched him begin to open up. He’s curiously interested in people now, choosing to come closer, allowing gentle pets, and showing us that he wants to connect — he just needs a little time. Joey is around 35–40 lbs and estimated to be 6–8 years old. He finds confidence in other dogs and would do best with a calm, steady canine companion to help show him the ropes. Recently, Joey began an in-home board and train program where he’s gaining real experience living inside a home — learning routines, building trust, and discovering what it means to relax in a safe environment. We are so excited for this next chapter for him. But here’s what Joey will need next: When his training is complete, he will need a foster home to continue that progress. We do not want him returning to traditional boarding after he’s worked so hard to adjust to home life. Joey needs a patient, understanding foster willing to give him time, space, and consistency. A secure fenced yard would be ideal, and a confident resident dog would be a huge bonus. This sweet boy has already come so far. Now he just needs someone willing to help him keep going. Could you be the soft landing Joey is waiting for? 💛 If you’d like, I can: Make a shorter “urgent foster needed” version Make it more emotionally compelling Or make it more practical/clear about what fostering Joey would look like day-to-day.

Story
At 11 years young, Bossman has perfected the art of being a distinguished gentleman. This sweet Beagle has a heart as soft as his floppy ears and a soul that radiates quiet devotion. His foster describes him in three words: gentle, snuggly, and endearing. Bossman is happiest curled up beside his people or his canine friends, soaking in the simple joy of being close. While he’s officially a senior, he still has a playful spark — especially when it comes to his beloved stuffies and chewies. (We all have our emotional support essentials. Those just happen to be his.) And let’s talk about his camera presence. The way Bossman looks at you — or straight into the lens — you’d swear he just worked a 9-to-5 and is covering the mortgage. The soulful eyes. The serious expression. The quiet “I’ve got responsibilities” energy. It’s both hilarious and impossibly charming. He’s wonderful with other dogs, enjoys a peaceful home environment, and has mastered the balance between short bursts of play and professional-level lounging. What he’s really searching for now is a soft place to land — a forever home where he can spend his golden years surrounded by love, comfort, and plenty of snuggles. Bossman has given the world 11 beautiful years. He’s ready for the best chapter yet!

Meet Moped!
Moped is a sweet, happy-go-lucky guy who thrives with another dog in the home. Extremely silly and full of personality, his foster family describes him as “a bouncing, twirling, running, licking energy tornado!” Despite all that enthusiasm, Moped is also a certified lap dog who loves being close to his people. He’s crate trained and more of a follower than a leader—he takes cues from other dogs and enjoys having both canine and human companions around. Moped is ready to bring joy, laughs, and lots of love to his forever home.

Story
TIME SENSITIVE! SPECIAL NEEDS! Trisha needs a home SOON! Remember Trisha? She came to us from a shelter a couple months ago. She was hit by a car about 6 months before being taken to the shelter but her owner didn't take her to the vet. We quickly learned that she is incontinent because the end of her spinal cord is severed. Trisha is happy, and playful and loves attention. She is not good with cats or any dog who seems dominant at all and may be most successful as an only pet. She loves people and would most likely be just fine with kids! Trisha would be happy and manageable in a home with a fenced yard for her to spend the day in. She could wear a diaper to come inside for family time and sleep in a crate at night. She will be more prone to urinary tract infections and will need regular medical care. We love Trisha and hope we can find someone else who will adore her and be able to manage her needs. Trisha has been spayed and vaccinated and we are happy to waive her adoption fee. Trisha is about 4 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. Apply NOW at www.augustadogadoptions.org. Trisha is located near Staunton,Va.

Story
Duke (or Marty as his foster family has nicknamed him) is a 6-year-old Basset mix with a mellow, curious nature and a personality that slowly reveals itself to those willing to be patient. He can be shy and unsure at first, especially with new people or too much direct attention, but he’s been making steady progress and now happily takes treats from gentle hands. Duke may not have spent much time as an indoor dog before, but he’s learning the comforts of home one blanket at a time. When he feels safe, his sweet side comes out in the form of quiet companionship and devotion.Duke is a low-key charmer who loves other dogs, rarely barks, and has impeccable manners when it comes to food and furniture. He doesn’t jump on people, won’t counter-surf, and usually shadows his favorite humans. He enjoys walks and exercise, especially when he can really stretch his legs, and the more activity he gets, the better he does with his house-training routine. While he’s still working on potty habits and does best with structure and consistency, he is making progress and improving every day.Duke is not a fan of crates or confinement and will need a home willing to work around that while continuing positive training. He’s clingy in the best way, happiest curled up on the couch under a blanket, and will loyally wait outside the bathroom door like a devoted little bodyguard. He has a joyful, heart-melting “happy dance” that appears during dinnertime, transforming him into a completely different dog. Duke is looking for a patient, understanding home that sees his quirks not as flaws, but as part of what makes him uniquely lovable.Duke is a work in progress and needs a devoted patient family to help him grow into the best version of himself! Contact BROOD today to meet Duke! His adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Copper 3 is a sweet, playful young Basset mix, just around a year old, with a moderate energy level and a gentle heart. He can be shy when first meeting new people and prefers to take his time getting acquainted. Once he feels safe, he becomes wonderfully affectionate and loves staying close to his people. He has especially bonded with the children in his foster home and truly enjoys being part of family life.Copper 3 loves to play and has a blast with stuffy toys, balls, and a good game of tug-of-war. He enjoys running in a fenced yard, zooming with excitement, and playing with other dogs, making him a great fit for a home with a canine companion. He can be a bit enthusiastic about his toys and food, so he would do best with dogs his size or larger and should be fed separately. With structure and consistency, he continues to grow in confidence and good manners.Copper 3 is housetrained and does very well when given regular potty reminders. He is crate trained and may need a little encouragement to go in, but he settles nicely once inside. He knows how to sit and will happily offer his paw when you say “paw,” and he absolutely loves going bye-bye for walks and adventures. This loving, playful boy is ready to find his forever family and continue blossoming with a patient, caring home — contact BROOD today to meet Copper 3! Story
Cooper is a 2-year-old classic Basset Hound with a joyful spirit and a heart full of love. He’s wildly affectionate and happiest when he’s right beside his people — or better yet, curled up in your lap or tucked behind your legs. A true social butterfly, Cooper enjoys meeting new friends and following his family from room to room like a devoted little shadow. With bursts of playful energy followed by cozy crash sessions, he brings the perfect mix of fun and snuggles to daily life.Cooper loves chasing balls, working on treat puzzles, and enjoying frozen peanut butter bones to keep his busy mind engaged. He plays wonderfully with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a canine companion, though he could also be happy as an only dog soaking up all the attention. He currently lives with a cat and has made great progress learning not to chase, but he may need continued guidance in a new home. Because he’s a big, enthusiastic boy who can be a bit jumpy when excited, he would do best with children around 10 and up.He is housetrained, sleeps soundly through the night, and patiently waits to go out in the morning. Cooper walks fairly well on leash, though he’s still polishing his manners since he wants to greet everyone he sees. He can be vocal when excited or when left alone and shows some separation anxiety, so a home with patience and consistency — and possibly a yard — would help him continue to thrive. With his happy-go-lucky personality, eagerness to learn, and deep devotion to his people, Cooper is ready to make one lucky family incredibly happy. Contact BROOD today to meet Cooper!
