Story
Penelope was the last dog we were able to rescue from a severe hoarding situation. She had spent her entire life shut inside a small shed—no access to the outdoors, no fresh air, and no meaningful interaction with people. When rescuers arrived, Penelope quietly climbed into the crate as if she knew it was finally her way out. Understandably, Penelope is very shy with people and carries emotional scars from her past. She will need a patient, gentle foster or adopter who understands that trust and healing take time. With the right support, we know she will continue to blossom. Penelope does well with other dogs and will need another dog in the home to help her build confidence and adjust to her new life. She looks to canine companions for guidance and comfort as she learns how to be a part of a family. A securely fenced yard is also recommended to give her the space and safety she needs to decompress. She’s currently in boarding and has had time to settle into a routine—but a foster home is the crucial next step in her journey. While she may be timid at first, Penelope is easy to manage once she learns the routine. With patience and love, we know she’ll come out of her shell. Penelope is ready for her next chapter. Could you be the one to help her write it?

Story
Joey is looking for a miracle. Joey, a gentle beagle mix, has been with us since June. He came from a heartbreaking situation where he was neglected and lived in deplorable conditions, isolated from the world. Because of this, Joey can be shy and cautious with new people — but with a little time and patience, his curiosity starts to shine through. Joey has never known the comfort of a real home. Since joining our program, he’s been living in boarding, waiting for someone to give him a chance. It’s not fair to him — he deserves to experience what it feels like to be loved, to bond with a family, and to finally have a place where he belongs. Joey doesn’t need perfection — just someone patient and kind who will help him discover that the world isn’t so scary after all. Could you be that person?

Story
Meet Belinda 🩷 | Foster Needed Belinda is a petite, young pup who came to us from a heartbreaking hoarding situation. She had been confined in a small, filthy outdoor pen with little to no access to clean water, food, or meaningful interaction with people or other dogs. She lived surrounded by waste, without ever being given the chance to truly live. When we rescued Belinda, she was scared but never aggressive—just desperate to escape the life she’d known. Since arriving at our boarding partner, she’s already begun to show signs of hope and progress. While still nervous, she follows her human friends with quiet curiosity, watching their every move and slowly realizing she might finally be safe. Because of her isolated past, Belinda can be unsure around other dogs and may act defensively at first. But if they respect her space, she learns to trust—and often ends up following them around, using their confidence as a guide to navigate this new world. Belinda is ready for her next big step: a foster home. Boarding has given her safety and structure, but nothing compares to the healing that happens in a real home. A foster environment will help her grow in ways that boarding simply can’t—and it will give her the best chance at finding her forever family. Belinda just needs someone patient, kind, and willing to show her that the world isn’t so scary after all. Could that be you?

Story
TIME SENSITIVE! SPECIAL NEEDS! Trisha needs a home SOON! Remember Trisha? She came to us from a shelter a couple months ago. She was hit by a car about 6 months before being taken to the shelter but her owner didn't take her to the vet. We quickly learned that she is incontinent because the end of her spinal cord is severed. Trisha is happy, and playful and loves attention. She is not good with cats or any dog who seems dominant at all and may be most successful as an only pet. She loves people and would most likely be just fine with kids! Trisha would be happy and manageable in a home with a fenced yard for her to spend the day in. She could wear a diaper to come inside for family time and sleep in a crate at night. She will be more prone to urinary tract infections and will need regular medical care. We love Trisha and hope we can find someone else who will adore her and be able to manage her needs. Trisha has been spayed and vaccinated and we are happy to waive her adoption fee. Trisha is about 4 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. Apply NOW at www.augustadogadoptions.org. Trisha is located near Staunton,Va.

Story
Molly is an 8-year-old classic Basset Hound with a big personality and more energy than you’d expect from a senior gal! Independent and confident, she loves spending time outdoors with her nose to the ground, exploring every scent the world has to offer. Walks are one of her favorite activities, and she enjoys every adventure with her family by her side.Molly is house-trained, uses a doggie door, and prefers to sleep in her crate overnight. She loves being around people and soaks up every bit of affection she can get—pets, belly rubs, and kisses are always welcome! She gets along well with other dogs as long as they respect her space, food, and toys—and understand that she’s the boss. Her previous owner also reported that she does well with cats. While Molly adores people, she’d do best in a home without young children under 10, as she appreciates her space and quiet time. She has learned to use her voice since settling in and will bark to alert her family about visitors or passing dogs, wants food or snacks, ready to get in bed, excitement over walks, or just needs some love. She does have mild separation anxiety and whines for a bit when her family leaves. Combined with her barking, she may be disturbing to close neighbors like in a townhouse, apartment, or condo setting.Molly has mild skin allergies that are easily managed with daily medication to keep her looking and feeling her best. Full of sass, love, and classic Basset charm, Molly is ready to find her forever home. Contact BROOD today to meet Molly! Her adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
Zoey is an energetic 18-month-old Basset Hound mix who’s full of life and always ready for fun. This lively, mischievous girl is still growing into herself and will thrive with an experienced family willing to continue the training she’s been working on in her foster home. Her curious nose often leads her into adventures (and a little mischief), so she’ll need guidance as she matures. Zoey adores people and children. She’s quick to roll over for belly rubs and never misses an opportunity to snuggle in someone’s lap. She will do best with children older than 10 as she can easily knock down smaller kids during her zoomies. She’s incredibly affectionate and loves being the center of attention. She’s also learning how to socialize with other dogs; she generally does well but should be fed separately. She has made a couple dog friends at the doggy day school, and the trainer thinks she could be successfully placed in a home with another dog as long as the introduction is done carefully. This smart girl is fully housetrained, uses the doggie door, and is usually quiet indoors. However, she’s always on the lookout for critters outside and will happily sound the alarm when she spots something through the window. Zoey also loves her toys—her squeaky chicken is her favorite—and she entertains herself by tossing them in the air and catching them like a pro. She is very active and will need a similarly dynamic family to meet her daily exercise needs. Friendly, curious, and always on the go, Zoey is ready to bring joy, love, and adventure to her forever family. Contact BROOD today to meet Zoey and see if she’s the perfect match for you and your family. Her adoption fee is $100.00. **Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Woody is an active, fun-loving 3-year-old Basset Hound mix who’s ready to bring energy, joy, and plenty of laughs to his forever home! This happy guy still has some puppy habits—especially his love for chewing. Whether it’s a squeaky toy, tasty treat, chew bone, or (oops!) something he shouldn’t have, Woody will happily test it out. His new family will want to keep tempting items out of reach to set him up for success.Woody is house-trained and generally a quiet companion, speaking up only when the doorbell rings or someone unfamiliar comes by. He thrives on playtime and would do best with a fenced yard where he can run to his heart’s content. He’d love to have a canine buddy to wrestle and romp with, but he’s also happy as an only dog—as long as he has enough human companionship and activities to keep him busy.Woody loves children, especially older kids who can keep up with his playful energy and don’t mind his sometimes-rough play style. He’s a loyal shadow, always happy to follow his family around and curl up nearby for a nap. Walks are another favorite, and he’s making great progress on his leash manners. With his quick mind and eagerness to please, Woody is a joy to train. If you’re looking for a spirited, affectionate companion who’s always up for fun, Woody could be the perfect match. Contact BROOD today to meet him! His adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions).
