Story
🐾 Meet Baxter 🐾 For eight years, Baxter has dreamed of having a family to call his own. Could you be the one to finally make that dream come true? Baxter is an 8-year-old Beagle with the sweetest soul you'll ever meet. He may be one of our senior dogs, but don't let his age fool you—this goofy boy still gets the occasional case of the zoomies and can be surprisingly bouncy! His favorite things include sniffing every inch of the yard, lounging on a comfy couch, and soaking up the sunshine. Baxter's story hasn't been an easy one. Before coming to Hooves and Paws, he spent six years living in an outdoor kennel after not meeting the expectations of a hunting dog. He then spent two more years at our rescue, patiently waiting for someone to give him a chance. Earlier this year, we celebrated what we thought was his happily ever after. Sadly, after just one month in a home, Baxter was returned through no fault of his own. It was another heartbreaking chapter for a dog who has spent far too much of his life without a family. Since then, Baxter has been thriving in a foster home, where we've learned so much about what makes him special. Baxter is: 🐶 House-trained and had no accidents in his previous home 🛋️ A professional couch potato who loves soft beds 🤫 Quiet around the house 🐾 Friendly with other dogs 🌳 A big fan of exploring fenced yards with his nose 💙 Loyal once he trusts you Like many dogs who have spent years in kennels, Baxter can be shy and anxious when meeting new people. He isn't the type of dog who instantly becomes everyone's best friend—and that's okay. Baxter simply needs someone willing to give him a little time and patience. Once he realizes he's safe, you'll discover an incredibly loving, gentle companion. Because Beagles love to follow their noses, a securely fenced yard would be best so Baxter can safely enjoy one of his favorite pastimes—sniffing every interesting scent he can find. Baxter is: ✔️ Neutered ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Up to date on vaccinations ✔️ Ready to find the forever family he has waited so long for After spending nearly his entire life in kennels, Baxter deserves more than anything to spend his golden years in a home filled with love, comfy beds, and people who will never give up on him. 🐾 Ready to Adopt? Story
Introducing Toby, the delightful 6-year-old senior pup who's ready to find his forever home! Toby is a handsome, mature male dog with a heart full of love and a gentle temperament. This sweet boy enjoys spending time outdoors, where he can explore to his heart's content and follow his "Beagle" nose on exciting adventures. While Toby adores the company of his human friends, he also treasures his independence and delights in playing and wandering by himself. Whether he's chasing after a favorite toy or enjoying some solo exploration, Toby knows how to keep himself entertained. But don't let his love for independence fool you—Toby is also a loyal and devoted companion who will stick by your side through thick and thin. Toby will need to be in a home with a fenced yard. With his endearing personality and affectionate nature, Toby would make a wonderful addition to any family looking for a loving and devoted furry friend. He's neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and microchipped, ready to embark on his next chapter with a loving family by his side. 🐾 Ready to Adopt? Here's How! The first step in our adoption process is submitting an application through our website. Simply visit: https://www.hoovesandpaws.org/shelterluv.html, click on the pet’s photo to view their full bio, then click “Apply for Adoption” to get started. Please give us a few days to review your application. If approved, you’ll receive an email from adoptions@hoovesandpaws.org to schedule a meet and greet (including any necessary dog-to-dog introductions). If the meet and greet goes well and you’d like to move forward, we’ll schedule a home check—this means we’ll bring your new furry friend to your home ourselves. This helps ensure a smooth transition and gives your new pup a familiar face upon arrival. We’ll finalize the adoption at that time! Questions, comments, or concerns? Reach out to us anytime at adoptions@hoovesandpaws.org. We're here to help!

Story
Mama Mia is a fun-loving, energetic adult tricolor hound dog who is about 3 years old and 40 lbs. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative.  A social girl at heart, Mama Mia knows no strangers and wants to greet everyone who comes her way, young and old, with tail wags and full-body wiggles. She is practicing her manners and learning to sit for attention.  Mama Mia is active and loves to run and jump. She would make an excellent companion for anyone seeking a dog who wants to walk, run, or hike. She is good with other dogs and would enjoy a fellow doggy playmate.  The ideal adopter for Mama Mia would be someone patient who understands that indoor living is new to her. She responds well to positive reinforcement and learns quickly. With a little bit of training, this girl will provide a lifetime of love. Apply for Mama Mia today if you're looking for a girl who can match your pace on the running trail and on the couch for a TV marathon.  Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2700142##

Tilly – Sweet & Shy Beagle Looking for Love 🐾❤️ Meet Tilly, a 2-year-old Beagle weighing around 15–20 lbs who is ready to find her forever family! This gentle girl is a little shy at first, but with patience and love, she will blossom into the spunky, happy pup she’s meant to be. Tilly is: ✔️ Spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped ✔️ Heartworm, Lyme, and Ehrlichia positive – but don’t worry! She has already started her treatment.    • She’ll be on doxycycline for one month    • Followed by our vet’s slow kill method for heartworm (Advantage Multi for 8 months) – a method we’ve had great success with. Tilly was found as a stray in Chesterfield with her mom, Maple, before being transferred to us. She’s now safe, loved, and waiting for a home that will give her the time and patience she needs to build confidence and show off her true Beagle personality. If you’re looking for a quiet companion who will reward you with unconditional love once she feels safe, Tilly might be the perfect match for you! ✅ Complete our adoption application at: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HPAW/Dog 📧 Questions?
