Story
Carhartt has been quietly figuring out that people can be pretty great. She came in unsure and overwhelmed, but with a little patience and some snacks, her softer side started showing quickly. Now she greets people with relaxed body language, gentle tail wags, and a growing interest in affection and companionship. She has been described as calm in her kennel, easy to handle, and eager for attention once she feels comfortable. Watching a dog like Carhartt settle in and begin trusting people again is one of those genuinely rewarding shelter transformations. Carhartt also seems to really enjoy getting out to explore the world. She likes long walks, enjoys sniffing around, and walks nicely with a harness. She can still be a little jumpy during leashing at times, but she has continued making steady progress and seeks out affection once she is out and about. Carhartt feels like the kind of dog who will keep blossoming in a quieter home where she can settle into a routine and build confidence at her own pace. Underneath the uncertainty is a sweet, affectionate dog who clearly wants connection and is learning that she is safe enough to ask for it. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Meet Opie!! Meet Opie! He was an owner who surrendered to a local shelter and needed rescue only because the stress of the shelter got to him. Opie is 4 yrs-old GS Malinois Dutch shepherd mix. Sadly he's lived a very confined neglected isolated sheltered life. In other words, he had lazy 💩 owners. As of 11/4, Opie is a sweet, gentle giant but reserved and timid. We have learned that allowing him to approach you on his time is best. 12/22 He loves his people once his trust is gained. Which takes 0 time and effort on the human part. 2/10 Everyone he has meets he has done awesome with. He is willing to try but does needs encouragement. He strives for guidance and needs consistency, routine, and simple daily exercise as well as structured discipline. He is a simple dog always wanting to please. But his confidence cannot be rushed instead when meeting any new folks he needs people to ignore him as if he's not present, do not approach, touch, talk to him or make eye contact and this alone makes meeting anyone easy and possible. 2/17 Opie thrives with companionship and desires physical and verbal acknowledgment from his people. He wants to belong and be part of his people every day life. No reactivity toward cats, or dogs, nor does he have any resource-guarding behaviors. He however is a follower and he needs constant guidance. Opie is good on a leash, still needs work but it's manageable. Very food and praise/affection motivated. 1/22 Opie is currently ongoing heartworm treatment and doing well. Opie is a dog that requires more than basic dog knowledge. He needs leadership and guidance and someone confident and in control at all times. To be continued: Opie is house and crate trained, neuteted, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona, 3-year rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Opie like every AHS dog comes with our lifetime support. Updated: 2/26/2023 We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets. Story
Hi, I’m Luna Marie. I’m the kind of girl who knows exactly what she likes—squeaky toys and cuddles. If it squeaks, I’m all in. And when I’m done playing, I’m more than happy to curl up close and soak up all the affection you have to give. I’ve got a sweet, loving personality and I really enjoy being around my people. Whether we’re playing or just relaxing together, I’m happiest when I’m by your side. If you’re looking for a playful companion who also knows how to settle in for some quality cuddle time, I might be your perfect match.

Story
Monkey is a great dog and I'd love to keep him. I've been fostering him for a month to see if he would be a good fit for me and my other dog and our elderly cat. He is amazing and very loving, but he's very large which makes it hard for me with a physical condition I have and with the current vehicle I own being a bit too small for all of us. I thought we could make it work, but I don't think it's fair to him when he could find a larger yard and someone who could more easily handle a 107lbs male. He will be 2, July 4th this year. His previous owner has the mother and couldn't keep him as he was going through a divorce and was forced to move in a small camper for the time being. I said I would try to locate a good home if I couldn't accommodate keeping him. Please help me find an amazing dog a huge beautiful life, for such a big ole baby that he is.

Aticus is new to us and may seem a little loud when at his kennel gate. Don’t let that loud bark fool you. He is really a good boy he wants to get out for a nice long walk. We are still learning his likes and dislikes so check back for updates as we get to know this handsome boy.

Story
Athena is super sweet and loves belly rubs. I had to move to an apt. complex and they will not allow more than two dogs. I have a chihuahua and a mini Aussie doodle, which is my daughter’s dog. I am sure she will be a great addition to a good loving family or a person that loves animals. She has been with us since she is puppy and has received nothing but love and I only wish she can find the right owner that can take good care of her!

Story
Hello! Im Salem. I am around 3 years old. I was rescued by my current family but they are moving and need to find me a new home. I LOVE to play fetch. Ive never really stayed inside, me and my adopted pack were outdoor dogs. But I am crate trained and will go in on command. My adopted pack are also up for adoption so if you have more room I would love to be with them too!
