From her foster: Remember Dakota? She is a 9ish month old, 70 lbs, shepherdish girl who is back and looking for a home.  She was in a great home who did a lot of work with her but it wasn’t working out. What we’ve learned about her along the way: She does great with medium/large/XL dogs, but is too big/rough for small dogs. In fact she would do best with a large playmate who is confident with people and noises. She is nervous with new people, but as long as you let her approach she’s a huge lover! Typical to the shepherd persona - she attaches at the hip to her person. In fact she likes to try to lay across my lap when I sit on the couch. She’s nervous with new things & loud sounds, but just stands behind me (or climbs behind me on the couch). She needs a heavy duty kennel of some kind. Preference given to experienced working dog parents or one who is willing to line up a trainer to help you guide her into adulthood. Dakota WANTS TO BE IN THE WATER. Her water bowl, the hose, the pool, doesn’t have to be out in the rain, but otherwise - be prepared for a wet floor, wet dog, etc…. She has a long coat, so be prepared for a ton of brushing and/or grooming bills. She has a somewhat sensitive tummy so food transitions will need to be slow! At just 1 year old, he has his whole life ahead of him and is looking for someone who understands the breed and is excited to help him reach his full potential. Rocky came to us after his family had to leave the country, and while this has been a big change for him, he's ready to start his next chapter. Like many young Shepherds, Rocky has a lot of energy and thrives when he has both physical exercise and mental enrichment. He's still learning about the world and can become overstimulated when he sees people or other dogs on walks, leading to some leash reactivity. We also don't think he's had much experience with structured leash walking, so he'll need a patient adopter who is committed to training and helping him build confidence. The good news? Rocky is incredibly smart and has all the makings of an amazing companion. With consistency, guidance, and positive reinforcement, we know he'll blossom into the loyal best friend German Shepherds are known to be. According to his previous family, Rocky did well with dogs, though he has a very energetic play style. He previously lived with children, but because of his size and enthusiasm, we think he'd do best with either an adult only home or older kids who can comfortably handle an active young dog. Cats, however, are a little too exciting for Rocky, so he'll need a cat-free home. If you're looking for a young dog with incredible potential and are ready to invest the time to help him succeed, Rocky will reward you with unwavering loyalty and a lifelong friendship. According to his previous family, Kovu is a very well-behaved, well-mannered, sweet, and loving dog. He is already house trained and crate trained, does well when left alone, and walks beautifully on leash — all things that can make the transition into a new home a little easier! Kovu has previously lived with Luna, another dog in our care, but they do not need to be adopted together. His previous family reports that Kovu is dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and kid-friendly. At 5 years old, Kovu is past the puppy stage and already knows how to be a wonderful companion. After having his whole world turned upside down, he’s ready for a family who will give him the stability, love, and forever home he deserves. Harley is a 6-year-old German Shepherd/Red Heeler mix who has the whole package: calm, loyal, smart, and deeply devoted to her people. She is house-trained, crate-trained, knows her commands, and settles beautifully in the home. She enjoys her daily walks, her toys, and above all, being close to her humans. A true Velcro dog, she loves nothing more than quietly sticking by your side. Harley can be a bit reserved with men and loves to protect her human. When she is feeling unsure or scared, she may bark or growl out of fear, but with slow, positive introductions, she warms up wonderfully. In her foster home, she absolutely adores her foster dad and teenage foster brother, showing just how loving and loyal she becomes once she feels safe.
