Story
Aspen is a 2½-year-old, 10-pound Shih Tzu/Bichon mix with a playful personality, a smart little mind, and just the right mix of affection and independence. She came to rescue as an owner surrender after living in a condo, and she’s now looking for a home that better matches her active, inquisitive nature. Aspen is incredibly smart and picks up on routines very quickly. After only four days in foster care, she already knew exactly which house was hers at the end of walks. She loves fast-paced walks, enjoys playing with other dogs, and proudly carries around her favorite watermelon ball with bells inside. Aspen is very socially aware with other dogs and reads their cues extremely well. She knows how to appropriately initiate play, responds respectfully when another dog is not interested, and takes guidance from her foster siblings. She gets along extremely well with the other dogs in her foster home and would likely enjoy having a canine companion in her forever home. Around the house, Aspen is athletic, coordinated, and confident. She loves napping on the back of the couch where she can keep an eye on everything happening around her. She sleeps well in bed at night and even uses a little bench to safely jump on and off. She has excellent spatial awareness and does not recklessly jump or fall from furniture. Aspen is very affectionate without being clingy. She enjoys being close to her people but also settles nicely on her own. She does have some anxiety when left alone and may bark when her foster mom first returns home, but she calms down within 5–10 minutes. Because Aspen can bark when left alone, she is not a good fit for apartment or condo living, or any home where shared walls and close neighbors could create issues. Her ideal home would include a fenced yard or secure deck/patio area where she can safely explore, observe the world, and get mental stimulation throughout the day. Aspen is a bright, engaging little dog with lots of personality, and she’s ready for a home that will appreciate both her playful energy and her loving heart. Her previous owner said she is house trained. She does her business on walks, but being in a new home has set her back on this. Her new adopter will need to help her get acclimated to her new surroundings. Aspen is being fostered in Cincinnati, OH. Her adoption fee is $450.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Sammy Jo! He hasn’t had the easiest path in life, but you’d never know it by the gentle way he’s beginning to trust again. This sweet boy is slowly stepping out of his shell and showing us the loving heart that’s been there all along. He is a white 10 year old Maltese who is incredibly sweet and enjoys being petted and loved on by his people. He’s starting to show his playful side by recently wagging his tail and initiating play with one of the smaller dogs in his foster home. He is fully potty trained and has never had an accident in the house or his crate. His crate is his safe haven, a place he willingly goes to relax and feel secure. He also does well with children and enjoys calm, gentle interaction. Sammy Jo does have food aggression and will need structured feeding with clear, consistent boundaries. He must be fed separately, and his space around food needs to be respected. With routine and predictability, he does well. He also has a collapsing trachea and requires medication twice daily. His future family will need to stay committed to keeping him on his medication schedule to ensure he stays comfortable and healthy. Sammy Jo values his personal space, especially around other dogs. If dogs are constantly in his face or if food is involved, he can become overwhelmed. However, he is making steady progress and is slowly building tolerance with proper introductions. Sammy Jo will thrive in a home that believes in structure, patience, and consistency. He needs a family who understands that trust takes time and that giving him appropriate space is a form of love. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who is learning every day that the world can be safe again. The quiet cuddles, the tail wags, the small victories. They mean everything with a dog like Sammy Jo. If you would like to give Sammy Jo the love he has always deserved, please apply at pawpatroldayton.com. Adoption fee is $160. This includes his microchip, heartworm test, up to date on vaccinations, and neuter. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Story
Maizy is a sweet little Maltese (maybe mix) who is learning she is safe and loved! This precious 10 pound, 5ish year old came to us from a breeding farm when they no longer had any use for her. Those days are behind her! She's been so forgiving and is enjoying life outside the cage that confined her. Maizy has quite the personality. Though shy when meeting new people, she's quick to bloom into a sweet companion! She loves to be wherever her people are! She enjoys pets and shows her love by kissing your hands and booping your legs. Maizy is house trained under a watchful eye. She also does fantastic in her crate after a very short whining session to tell you she's not happy you are keeping her from being by your side. Maizy is 10 pounds of fluff and a joy to be around. She loves other dogs and would benefit from a fenced in yard. Our preference is that she has both in her new home. Maizy has the potential to be nearly normal after some patience and proper decompression. She's so tolerant and just wants to love and be loved! Maizy is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped and has had a dental. Her adoption fee is $310. You may apply to adopt her at www.pawpatroldayton.com. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.
