About Me: Name: Amelia and Bedelia Breed (or best guess): Bichon Mix Approximate Age: 6 yr Gender: Female Approximate Weight:  Adoption Fee: $800 for the pair Requirements: Fenced yard, patient adopter Why In Rescue: surrendered breeding dogs Profile:  Amelia and Bedelia are best friends who love to cuddle and groom each other.  They came to us with a number of other dogs from the same facility.  Amelia had a scratched eye that has now healed and is all fine now.  Bedelia had a severe head tilt, which we discovered was due to a bad ear infection.  After weeks of treatment, she is much better and ready to be adopted.  Like most retired breeding dogs, these girls are shy and are now learning to trust people.  They haven't worked on leash walking yet, but we either pick them up to take them out to the fenced area, or allow them to follow us out.  Another small social dog in the home may help the girls figure out housetraining faster, but we won't require another dog in the home because they have each other.  Please review the information on puppy mill dogs before applying to adopt Amelia and Bedelia, as they will require a person with extra patience to allow them to flourish in their new home. Amelia and Bedelia came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use them for breeding.  Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $200 - $550 depending on the age of the dog, which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS April 30, 2024, 12:19 pm

About Me: Name: Ramona Quimby Breed (or best guess): Bichon (or mix) Approximate Age: 6-7 years Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 14 lb Adoption Fee: $450 Requirements: Patient adopter, fenced yard, another dog  Why In Rescue: Breeder Surrender Profile:  Ramona Quimby came with a number of her friends from a breeder that was going to stop using them for breeding (and hopefully out of breeding completely).  Ramona is shy/timid, but getting more comfortable to people and will come up to get a treat especially through the kennel fence.  She is still nervous about being picked up.  At the shelter she will follow the caretaker to go outside.  She does not walk on a leash yet, so will need a securely fenced yard so she can safely go outside.  Ramona NEEDS another small dog in the home to be comfortable.  If she doesn't have a kennel mate at the shelter she becomes very nervous and upset.  She could be adopted with her friend Judy Moody, or alone if there is another dog in the home.  Please read the information about puppy mill survivors before you apply to adopt Ramona, as we want the adoption to be a success for her as well as her adopter.  We don't know if she ever lived in a house, so will likely need work with housetraining. Story
Say hello to beautiful Opal! This sweet girl is about 9 years old. She's a rescued puppy mill mama Bichon. Like so very many of these so-called breeder releases (i.e. no longer producing sellable puppies so no longer of any value to the business operators) she is extremely timid and unsure of life outside of a locked box. She does not trust humans - and I don't blame her one little bit. After many months in her foster home, she has made progress, but that progress is always guarded and often accompanied by a swift return to where she was before the progress (she's a one step forward, two steps back kind of gal). She watches my every move with curiosity/suspicion, lol. She likes to be near the me and the pack when I'm home but doesn't necessarily want to cuddle in with us. She's more of a "I'll be over here watching you, but you can reach over and pet me if you want," type of pup. She does get excited when I get home from work and will sometimes do zoomies in the yard with the big boys, but she doesn't want me bursting her fun bubble by trying to get too close. I have built trust with her to the point where she wants to be by me, wants me to pet her, lets me do anything I need to do with her (besides go for a walk), but she is usually still nervous during it all. Heartwarming are the times when she is truly relaxed and enjoying some love from me - those times are slowly building in frequency. Love and patience are paying off. She must have a fenced-in yard at her new home as a leash isn't an option for this sweetheart. She is going to need time and lots of patient, unconditional love and support to transition into a new life. Her ideal adopter is someone who is looking to share her/his home with an introvert :)You can also watch for stories, pictures and videos about Opal on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/40103261297/ Ask to meet me today!! Adoption fee: $425 All dogs/puppies have been fully vetted including spay/neuter, micro-chipping, worming, heartworm testing and preventative treatment, flea/tick preventative, and all required age appropriate vaccinations. ***REQUIREMENTS - canine companion, apartments not recommended***Meet Marilyn, a bright and curious ~20 lb Bichon Frise mix. Marilyn came from an unfortunate breeding situation where she was overbred and shows the signs of her years of neglect. Despite that, she's incredibly curious and wants to know everything about everything in her new foster environment. She's quickly learning that human touch can be pretty great and is almost ready to ask for attention when she wants it. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home and is looking for a forever home with at least one other canine companion. Because she's not used to being alone, she does have separation anxiety and will express her unhappiness through song - as a result, apartments are not recommended. She doesn't love being in a crate, but does ok in there while foster mom is gone. She's working hard on potty training and making a lot of progress. Things she's discovered since being rescued -* Zoomies* Meal time is dance worthy* Running around in the fenced in backyard is pretty great* Sunning herself when it's nice outside* Rubbing herself against the crates is probably her favorite activity and is a nightly routine* Asking for pets results in pets, which is pretty coolTo see what else Marilyn discovers as she gets more comfortable, watch for stories, pictures and videos about her on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/40103261297/ Ask to meet Marilyn today!!Adoption fee: $500All dogs/puppies have been fully vetted including spay/neuter, micro-chipping, worming, heartworm testing and preventative treatment, flea/tick preventative, and all required age appropriate vaccinations. Clyde is a 1yr and 8month old energetic dog. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to devote to him that he deserves. I have no doubt that he would be house broken in no time since he is a quick learner. Again, I just don't have the time. I unfortunately need him in a happy and safe home by 5/1 as the person that was supposed to take him is no longer able to do so.

These pups are in Whitewater, Wisconsin too!

Story
Meet Teddy! Hello friends, my name is Teddy and I've come to you in search of my forever home. I am a senior always up for an adventure, but do not turn my nose up to a good nap! I'm only about 20 pounds. My foster parents have been working with me to learn that love and patience build trust! I do not like to be picked up, although I am working on it as I gain trust in the humans around me. But listen, I'm perfectly able to walk around and get to where I want to go on my own. I don't think I should probably live with any kiddos unless they are older and understand that I'm my own dog! Speaking of dogs... I do well with other dogs. I like to tag along on walks or run around the house with them, but at the same time, I don't care what they're doing, I am just happy living harmoniously in the same house. Cool, calm, and collected are my types of friends. I'm not really sure if I want to be friends with cats, though, as I haven't met any since I got to my foster home. I'm a super good boy, go potty outside and sleep through the night. Not a huge barker but sometimes I get excited and like to talk with friends walking down the street. You can trust me being left home alone in the house. I have free roam of the house while my foster parents are away from home, and I do a great job. Give me a chair by a window, and I am in heaven! I'll need someone who is patient with me and understands that I need a little bit of time to gain trust in you. I really connect with my foster mom the best so I think being in a home where my main caretaker is female would be ideal. It doesn’t mean I do not like males or my foster dad, I just do best with a female. I have begun showing affection by engaging on my own terms with my foster parents at my own speed, and that has been perfect for me. If I am not up for affection and you don’t read my subtle warnings, I will let you know by nipping. However, I am working on that one day at a time and have shown improvements when I get used to you. My foster parents are showing me that I can trust and love knowing no one is going to hurt me. I have gone to the groomer and vet since being with my foster family and I am a little uneasy with this process. I am not sure why I am this way, but we have found that to make me the best patient requires a chill out plan which includes medication to relax me beforehand. This helps both me and the staff trying to take care of me. With that all being said you can count on me for always making sure I see you in the window when you leave and am waiting by the door every time you return home. A good walk together with my foster family checking my wee-mail and doing zoomies in the house are activities I look forward to each day. Oh, let me tell you about car rides, I love them and watching out the car window! Most days, I enjoy spending my time taking naps or watching the world go by, looking out the window. I know basic commands, and we can bond and work on you touching me by having me "shake." I'd do best in a quiet, laid-back home with someone who has patience and invests in taking baby steps with me and work on building a bond with me. I promise it'll all be worth it! Are you looking for a cute guy like me that you can take care of while I learn you could be my new best friend? *Teddy is being fostered in the Milwaukee area. Story
Meet Kronk! Oh! Well, hello there, my name is Kronk, and I'm so pleased to meet you. I was recently brought in to animal control as a golden oldie, and I was one hot mess! I needed to be shaved down because I was so matted. I'm working on getting my skin healthy, so I'm not quite so itchy anymore. I'm just a little guy, at 16 pounds, and I need to gain a few pounds. I love food, though, even if I do need the flavors switched up once in a while. Who wants to eat the same thing day after day anyway? I get along with other dogs quite well, and I go outside to potty. I haven't met any kids or cats, but I love humans, and if you have older, teen aged kids, I could live with them. I found out that I'm what they call blind, and I don't hear so well anymore, so little kiddos might be a little much for me. Being that I'm older, I have a bit of a wonky gait, so I take some meds for arthritis, whatever that is. I'm really good about taking my meds, and that includes the ones I take to keep my eyes clean! Foster mom says I'm the bestest boy! I really enjoy wandering in the fenced-in yard here in my foster home. It lets me use my sniffer, and it keeps me safe at the same time. Even though I can't see a darn thing, that doesn't stop me from always being able to find my human if they're in a different room. I really like being close to my people, especially if that means I'll get pet by them! I would make a good snuggle buddy, too! Now I'm just looking for my forever home with my forever people. I hope you have a lap that need to be kept warm! *Kronk is being fostered in the Green Bay area. Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.
