Meet Kronk! Oh! Well, hello there, my name is Kronk, and I'm so pleased to meet you. I was recently brought in to animal control as a golden oldie, and I was one hot mess! I needed to be shaved down because I was so matted. I'm working on getting my skin healthy, so I'm not quite so itchy anymore. I'm just a little guy, at 16 pounds, and I need to gain a few pounds. I love food, though, even if I do need the flavors switched up once in a while. Who wants to eat the same thing day after day anyway? I get along with other dogs quite well, and I go outside to potty. I haven't met any kids or cats, but I love humans, and if you have older, teen aged kids, I could live with them. I found out that I'm what they call blind, and I don't hear so well anymore, so little kiddos might be a little much for me. Being that I'm older, I have a bit of a wonky gait, so I take some meds for arthritis, whatever that is. I'm really good about taking my meds, and that includes the ones I take to keep my eyes clean! Foster mom says I'm the bestest boy! I really enjoy wandering in the fenced-in yard here in my foster home. It lets me use my sniffer, and it keeps me safe at the same time. Even though I can't see a darn thing, that doesn't stop me from always being able to find my human if they're in a different room. I really like being close to my people, especially if that means I'll get pet by them! I would make a good snuggle buddy, too! Now I'm just looking for my forever home with my forever people. About Me: Name: Rexie Breed (or best guess): Shih Tzu mix Approximate Age: 3 years Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 14 lb Adoption Fee: $400 ($450 - $50 sponsored) Requirements: another small dog, fenced yard, patient adopter Why In Rescue: puppy mill surrender Profile:   Rexie came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use her for breeding.  She is a very shy girl and will need time and patience to understand and enjoy human companionship.  She is happy when she is in her kennel run with another dog, but very unsure of human touch.  She does need to have another dog in her new home to make her comfortable.  A secure fence will be needed as well.  Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. Meet RJ, a certified fuddy duddy. This sweet senior Shih Tzu mix weighs about 15 lbs, so he's the perfect size for snuggling and carrying around. His back legs don't work perfectly anymore and he's almost completely blind, but he doesn't let that stop him from charging around at full speed, seeking out smells that make him happy. His very favorite thing in the world is laying in a comfortable, familiar spot and letting the world go by. He's fully potty trained and hasn't had any accidents in his foster home. Although he does fine in a crate, he's past the stage of being interested in antics and can be trusted outside his crate. He gets along with other dogs unless they get in his face and he finds it necessary to stand his ground, but would also do well as an only dog. Meet Teddy! Hello friends, my name is Teddy and I've come to you in search of my forever home. I am a senior always up for an adventure, but do not turn my nose up to a good nap! I'm only about 20 pounds. My foster parents have been working with me to learn that love and patience build trust! I do not like to be picked up, although I am working on it as I gain trust in the humans around me. But listen, I'm perfectly able to walk around and get to where I want to go on my own. I don't think I should probably live with any kiddos unless they are older and understand that I'm my own dog! Speaking of dogs... I do well with other dogs. I like to tag along on walks or run around the house with them, but at the same time, I don't care what they're doing, I am just happy living harmoniously in the same house. Cool, calm, and collected are my types of friends. I'm not really sure if I want to be friends with cats, though, as I haven't met any since I got to my foster home. I'm a super good boy, go potty outside and sleep through the night. Not a huge barker but sometimes I get excited and like to talk with friends walking down the street. You can trust me being left home alone in the house. I have free roam of the house while my foster parents are away from home, and I do a great job. Give me a chair by a window, and I am in heaven! I'll need someone who is patient with me and understands that I need a little bit of time to gain trust in you. I really connect with my foster mom the best so I think being in a home where my main caretaker is female would be ideal. It doesn’t mean I do not like males or my foster dad, I just do best with a female. I have begun showing affection by engaging on my own terms with my foster parents at my own speed, and that has been perfect for me. If I am not up for affection and you don’t read my subtle warnings, I will let you know by nipping. However, I am working on that one day at a time and have shown improvements when I get used to you. My foster parents are showing me that I can trust and love knowing no one is going to hurt me. I have gone to the groomer and vet since being with my foster family and I am a little uneasy with this process. I am not sure why I am this way, but we have found that to make me the best patient requires a chill out plan which includes medication to relax me beforehand. This helps both me and the staff trying to take care of me. With that all being said you can count on me for always making sure I see you in the window when you leave and am waiting by the door every time you return home. A good walk together with my foster family checking my wee-mail and doing zoomies in the house are activities I look forward to each day. Oh, let me tell you about car rides, I love them and watching out the car window! Most days, I enjoy spending my time taking naps or watching the world go by, looking out the window. I know basic commands, and we can bond and work on you touching me by having me "shake." I'd do best in a quiet, laid-back home with someone who has patience and invests in taking baby steps with me and work on building a bond with me. I promise it'll all be worth it!
