Story
Shyla has come a long way! Although she is still quite timid with with humans, she will now approach me and put her 2 front paws on my chair asking for affection. She'll let me scratch her tummy and behind her ears, but if I move quickly or try to pick her up, she scoots away. She loves feeding time and will bark at me until I get up to prepare breakfast or dinner. She's an early morning riser...really early! We are working on her nocturnal redecorating of my home...she drags things around and finds fun in anything she can grab and run away with. She is mostly housebroken, although I keep a washable pee pad or two down and during the night someone uses them...I'm guessing it's her as she wakes up earlier than the rest of us. We are trying a harness here and there, adding a leash sometimes, taking car rides with all of my dogs and she's doing really well with all of it. I haven't walked her outside my fenced in yard, but if you take it one day at a time, one block at a time, she will probably enjoy walking with you. EVERY noise makes her run and hide...I'm taking everything extremely slowly. She's very food motivated, so I believe she will be easy to train. Initially I thought she needed to live with another dog, but now I'm seeing she could be happy as the only dog because she's starting to love my attention. I wouldn't describe her as quiet, though, so an apartment and/or condo may not be the right setting or her, especially if left alone for several hours. I work from home and have 3 dogs, so I'm not a good judge as to how she will do alone. She met a cat several weeks ago and neither were phased at all. If you are patient and realize she won't be that dog who runs and jumps in your lap for a while, please ask to meet Shyla. She's a pretty special girl!
