Story
Beta is a 5 year old rescued as a puppy from a litter brought from Mississippi. She needs a home with no dogs and preferably no children. If you've got a backyard or field that would be great because she loves her zoomies. She loves running on trails and catching sticks (no need to spend money on toys!) She does have some issues with resource guarding but is able to adapt with time in a home. She's on Reconcile which has helped with barking at everything at the window/front door and anxiety. Beta is just as content running around as she is sleeping beside you on Friday movie night. It's best she stay away from people who do not know how to respect a dog's boundaries. She will give signals when she's anxious or uncomfortable with a situation. Beta needs a home with experienced dog owners with no kids running in/out of the house and no other dogs (and maybe no cat). Put in the proper environment, she is the most therapeutic, loving, thankful and happiest dog.

Story
. Harvey is our resident love bug. He wants nothing more than ear scratches and belly rubs. Harvey will nudge you ever so gently to get your attention for more rubs. He has good leash manners and enjoys going on walks. Harvey also enjoys jogging with his human companions. He would do best in a home where he is the one and only. He is selfish and wants all the loving for himself. Harvey would do best in a home with older kids. He is crate trained and house trained.  He is part blue tick hound which gives him a cute, unique barkish howl.  Make Harvey your companion for life.  Harvey is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and altered.Harvey is located in Harper, Texas but can be transported to any location in the US or Canada for adoption. ##1499366##

Story
Courtesy post "Riley  is estimated to be a 2 year old blue tick/ Catahoula hound mix that was originally surrendered to Paw Prints Vet in WV. He was adopted on March 1st after getting neutered and vaccinated on February 24th. Unfortunately, we cannot provide him his forever home because we do not have the time or space he needs to be cared for permanently. He loves cuddling and is great with humans, including kids. He does well with submissive dogs, but does not handle reactive or loud dogs well. He is very skittish with some dogs and would be better off in a home without pets and with someone who can run him often and put in the time to train him since he has separation anxiety.  We are located in Westminster, MD and we'd like to get him a home ASAP, as the person whose dog was bit is unwilling to live in the home until the dog is no longer on the property. None of the dogs pictured are the one that was bit. He had no issues with other dogs prior. Contact Kenai at  4439740674  May 1, 2024, 1:34 pm

Story
Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. If interested in adopting Betty, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application  Hedgesville Hounds took in Betty in December 2023.  While clearly very shy, her evaluators perceived a dog who wanted to trust humans and had a sweetness about her that was very promising.  Since coming into care, Betty’s health has improved by leaps and bounds.  Weighing about 27 pounds when she came to us, she now weighs a long, lean, and leggy 44 pounds.  Her once dull and rough coat is softer and shines in the sunlight.  Betty came to Hedgesville Hounds burdened with heartworms.  She did very well during her heartworm treatment and after 3 months of treatment, is now clear of any heartworm disease. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog.  She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning.  Because of the heartworm disease, Betty spent months on crate rest.  Since being released from her physical restrictions, Betty has enjoyed her freedom and progressed to daily runs around the yard with other dogs and by herself, leaping off the deck and rolling around in the grass, chasing robins on the ground and buzzards in the air, even adding silly leaps and twists just for the sheer fun of it.  Betty’s foster Mom thinks she is mixed with some kind of site hound, like Whippet or Greyhound.  Betty is streamlined in shape, has long and delicate legs, a sleek head, and doesn’t like to SIT.  Her favorite positions are standing and fully reclining.  Jumping up on items does not come naturally to her, hence her rare use of the couch and her current inability to jump into the back of the car.  She doesn’t mind being lifted into the car and climbs right into the car crate.  She is an excellent and quiet car passenger. Betty is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day.  She is fine all night long, even uncrated.  Betty is crate-trained as well. She may whine a bit at first, but then she settles down well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care.  When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash.  Her foster mom has been using a Gentle Leader head halter, which works better for her than a no-pull harness. Betty will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. It seems like Betty is going through a second puppyhood as she has been exploring her world by mouth.   Nothing has been damaged beyond repair, but her new family will want to keep items out of her reach and continue to teach her what is appropriate to chew on.  Betty occasionally chews her Nylabones or soft chew toys.  She also really enjoys her Collagen Retriever Rolls (rawhide replacements). Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is a necessity.  Betty gets along well with other dogs and also with cats.  Betty has come a long way since she joined Hedgesville Hounds.  She has proven that our initial assessment of her sweetness was spot on.  She probably won’t win any obedience titles; however, if you’re looking for a gentle dog to simply love you unconditionally, well, Betty has the rule book memorized! click here to send a non-binding application

Story
Porky is part of our Little Rascal Litter.   We got word that Porky and his siblings were abandoned roadside in NC. He is an 8 week old, catahoula leopard dog mix, and weighing at about 6 lbs now.  We searched for fosters and were able to bring them into rescue while they await their forever homes. This breed is known to be high energy so we’re looking for families who are ready to give him the outlets that he will need.  As a young puppy, he's looking for a family with plenty of time an to help show him everything a young puppy needs to know. He is still very young and working on house training, crate training, as well as basic puppy manners. To adopt Porky  please apply on our website! www.keytolionsheart.org/adopt Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training. April 29, 2024, 7:49 am
