Story
Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. If interested in adopting Betty, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application  Hedgesville Hounds took in Betty in December 2023.  While clearly very shy, her evaluators perceived a dog who wanted to trust humans and had a sweetness about her that was very promising.  Since coming into care, Betty’s health has improved by leaps and bounds.  Weighing about 27 pounds when she came to us, she now weighs a long, lean, and leggy 44 pounds.  Her once dull and rough coat is softer and shines in the sunlight.  Betty came to Hedgesville Hounds burdened with heartworms.  She did very well during her heartworm treatment and after 3 months of treatment, is now clear of any heartworm disease. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog.  She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning.  Because of the heartworm disease, Betty spent months on crate rest.  Since being released from her physical restrictions, Betty has enjoyed her freedom and progressed to daily runs around the yard with other dogs and by herself, leaping off the deck and rolling around in the grass, chasing robins on the ground and buzzards in the air, even adding silly leaps and twists just for the sheer fun of it.  Betty’s foster Mom thinks she is mixed with some kind of site hound, like Whippet or Greyhound.  Betty is streamlined in shape, has long and delicate legs, a sleek head, and doesn’t like to SIT.  Her favorite positions are standing and fully reclining.  Jumping up on items does not come naturally to her, hence her rare use of the couch and her current inability to jump into the back of the car.  She doesn’t mind being lifted into the car and climbs right into the car crate.  She is an excellent and quiet car passenger. Betty is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day.  She is fine all night long, even uncrated.  Betty is crate-trained as well. She may whine a bit at first, but then she settles down well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care.  When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash.  Her foster mom has been using a Gentle Leader head halter, which works better for her than a no-pull harness. Betty will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. It seems like Betty is going through a second puppyhood as she has been exploring her world by mouth.   Nothing has been damaged beyond repair, but her new family will want to keep items out of her reach and continue to teach her what is appropriate to chew on.  Betty occasionally chews her Nylabones or soft chew toys.  She also really enjoys her Collagen Retriever Rolls (rawhide replacements). Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is a necessity.  Betty gets along well with other dogs and also with cats.  Betty has come a long way since she joined Hedgesville Hounds.  She has proven that our initial assessment of her sweetness was spot on.  She probably won’t win any obedience titles; however, if you’re looking for a gentle dog to simply love you unconditionally, well, Betty has the rule book memorized! click here to send a non-binding application

Female, 2 years, 44 lbs Personality: loyal, snuggler, independent, goofy/funny, rambunctious, playful, energetic, and affectionate. Did you say you like hounds? Our gorgeous girl, Samantha, is all ears! This darling coonhound is super sweet, loving, social, and quiet. She's ready to curl up next to you on the couch or check out the sights (and smells) on walks. Samantha is crate trained and is just about house trained. She also does well when left alone in the house and naps it up! She loves being with humans and enjoys small group doggie play dates. While Samantha tries to play with the cats at her foster home, she would be a good match for a household with cats who are comfortable with dogs. You've just got to hang out with this affectionate lady! If you're ready for an incredible forever friend, fill out an application today to meet Samantha the wonder hound. If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP,Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Please contact Melissa A Aten (melissaa@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.hound dog awooing for his forever family! HENRY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Henry    Best Guess for Breed:   Treeing Walker Coonhound mix   Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of June 2024        SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight: 58 lbs   Gets Along With:    Henry does well with other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:  Shelter; needds a foster or forever home in the DC area after completing heartworm treatment! Special adoption considerations: Henry is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.    See this happy handsome boy in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spF6uMpiU98   Henry is Looking For:  Well, hi! I'm Henry! I'm just a good hound dog, with the typical hound's nose for adventure. I'd like to go to a home with someone whose able to take me on long, sniffy walks so I can inspect my neighborhood with my houndie nose. We live to sniff! I'd also like to be able to play with other pups sometimes. Most of all, though, I want to be safe and loved and know who my human is. What do you say? Am I the pup for you?   What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Good with: Dogs, older kids Not good with: Younger kids Not tested with: Cats House trained: Yes Energy level: High Noise level: Quiet Hi, I'm Raven! My soulful eyes and gentle demeanor have won over the hearts of many, and I'm ready to find my forever family. My previous family couldn't say enough good things about me. They said I was the best dog for any family, and you know what? I believe them! I absolutely adore humans there's nothing I love more than snuggling up with my favorite people and basking in their affection. Unfortunately, my previous family's work hours changed, and they had to make the tough decision to return me to the shelter. But I'm staying positive! I know that there's a family out there just waiting to welcome me into their hearts and home. I'm a sweet and affectionate dog with a lot of energy. I absolutely adore people and other dogs, and I get along with everyone I meet. One of my favorite things about myself is how mellow and adaptable I am; I'm gentle and friendly, making me a great companion for both adults and kids. I'm proud to say that I have basic training and know commands like "sit," "come," and "leave it." I'm also housetrained and crate trained. On walks, I might pull on the leash a bit, but I love meeting strangers and other dogs. I'm generally quiet and rarely barkI've only barked once in the two weeks I've been here! I get along well with all dogs and play nicely at the dog park. While I'm great with kids, my tendency to jump when excited means I'd do better with older children until I learn to keep all four paws on the ground. I'm looking for a forever home where I can stay active and be surrounded by love. Could that be with you? My foster guardian says: She is very mellow and gets along with everyone and every dog she meets. Likes: Long walks, short walks, hikes, and trips to the dog park are some of my favorite activities. Dislikes: I do have a few dislikes; thunderstorms, fireworks, loud noises, and the vacuum can make me a bit nervous. My ideal home: I would thrive in an active family, and while a yard would be great, I've been doing just fine in a small apartment with plenty of exercise and play. I love kids (as long as they are older) and would thrive in a family with children. This wonderful boy is Walker. He is a big, loveable boy that enjoys playing. He gets excited when he sees a cat or a squirrel like any good hound would. He really likes to hang out with people and other dogs. He has the softest ears and just loves it when you give him ear scratches. He is housetrained and wags his entire body when he sees his humans. He has never met a stranger and is just a big, loving lug. You could not ask for a better dog!Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org July 26, 2024, 5:50 pm

Want to meet ME?* Come to our adoption event this weekend: Sunday, July 14th from 11:30-1:30 Dulles Landing PetSmart 24570 Dulles Landing Dr, #140 Dulles, VA 20166 Only Canines & Kitties Rescue pre-approved adopters will be able to bring a dog/puppy/cat/kitten home from the adoption event. Please apply a few days (or more) ahead of the event to allow time for processing. We hope to see you on Sunday!!! *Dog/Cat attendance is not guaranteed. Feel free to text the event coordinator to confirm a specific dog's attendance: 703-447-4766 Meet Adorable Toby - Toby is about 4 months old and weighs about 18 lbs. We think he looks like a Tree Walker Coonhound mix (Just a Guess). Toby is a happy and playful puppy who also enjoys a good snuggle on the couch. He is great with other dogs and spends his days romping around with his sister Lucy. We have no idea on cats. Toby is doing well with house training and crate training. Young puppies will require an adopter who is at home a good portion of the day to continue training - no exceptions! This puppy is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines and microchipped. This puppy will need to be neutered at 6 months of age. The Adoption Fee for this puppy $400.00. ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs and/or all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So, adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal. **Please visit www.caninesandkittiesrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**

Meet Queen B of the Q pups! Queen B is a lovely girl who is ready for her own family. While her breed is a mystery, her mom is about thirty pounds and we thing Queen B will about the same size. She and her siblings have loved life with mother, Baby and her foster mom. She is learning about all the good things in puppy life, like running around outside and getting lots of love from everyone she meets. Queen B does well with other dogs and is young enough to learn about cats. The adoption fee for this puppy is $475, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. A $250 spay/neuter deposit is required at time of adoption. This fee covers spay/neuter at one of PetConnect's preferred veterinary partners. If the adopter chooses to use their own veterinarian, the deposit will be returned with proof of sterilization. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. For more information, please email cmacdonald@petconnectrescue.org **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**
