Story
Cody is a high energy male about 15 months old. He likes taking walks on a leash a few times a day and loves to be outside. He doesn’t like cats at all! He does well with our other, much smaller dogs, but does jump around, and that is a safety concern for us. He needs a big fenced yard to run around and play. He’s reactive to new people and takes time to warm up. We can’t keep him because he jumps out fence and is just too rambunctious for smaller dogs. He would probably do best with meeting his new humans first, then adding additional pets.

Taimi and her three other littermates (Aurene, Caithe, and Rytlock) were dumped in our meet-and-greet yard on the evening of March 20th. Skinny and scared, we worked to get them healthy and happy. The rest of the litter has all been adopted, and Taimi is the only one left looking for a home! Taimi is an eager, quick, attentive, and playful puppy. She is still working on her leash skills, but her food drive and intelligence are out of this world. She picks up very rapidly on what you want her to do and does her best to comply with it even if she doesn't full get it yet. She is interested in toys and played well with her littermates and other puppies her age. We think that she is going to be a nice medium-to-large dog as an adult. Her mixed-breed looks are very ambiguous--people have looked at her and seen everything from border collie, jack russel terrier, lab, sighthound breeds, bull terrier, american pitbull terrier, great dane, and even chihuahua!

Cloud is a 2 - 3 yr old female Border Collie mix. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit well into most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She can be shy initially, but warms up quickly to new people. She likes to sit by her person for snuggles. Cloud does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! She is food motivated, but does not yet know any commands. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. We adopted Kona when she was 12 weeks old and she is now 2 years old. She is a great dog and is so sweet. She is higher energy which is why we are needing to rehome. She needs a home where she can receive a lot of attention and love! She loves walks and adventures and loves people. She is potty trained and very obedient and well trained. She does very well off leash as well and knows to stay nearby.
