Story
🐶 🐕 PERKINS (aka PERK) Special Needs Male Border collie Mix 7 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk - and I am about 7 years young. My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away. Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that. Mom says I am special needs because I have some incontinence issues. I don't really know what that means. I let Mom and Dad know when I have to go potty, but when I am done, Mom says I leak. We've tried some different medicines and diagnostics, and Dad agrees it really isn't bad. When I hear the Velcro separate on my diaper I know its “free time” in the house. I stand still until I feel that little pat on my backside to signal it’s secure. Mom uses washable diapers, but I would probably do fine with other types as well. I don't like leaving my homestead, so when it's time for my checkup I get something special to help me relax. Everyone at the Vet’s office loves me and tells me what a good boy I am. Speaking of love, I love to chase a tennis ball. I may or may not bring it back depending on my whim at that moment. I also love to eat. Give me food, give me treats, YAY. I sit nice for my meals, which I always eat in my crate. I sleep quietly in my crate, but it's not my favorite place, and I will warn you if strangers are lurking outside because that’s my job. Oh, if you have that white stuff that’s cold, wet, and covers the ground that would be fun. I had a blast the one time it “snowed” here, that’s what my hoomans called it. Dad says he took the cutest video ever when I kept poking my nose out the doggy door, then retreated because what the heck is that? But once I was nudged out the door we had so much fun. I have been with my foster Mom and Dad for a few years and have helped with many of the other dogs and puppies that have come through our home, but I would also be fine as an only dog. I do enjoy playing at the other dog’s level. I wrestle with Skittles, because she is my size and she can take it, but I am gentIe with smaller dogs, or dogs not interested in that sort of thing. I am super friendly and loyal once I get to know you. I can be very vocal when I want something or when I am trying to warn you about something. I tolerate Mom's inside cats, but I don't like any cats in my yard. Mom says I need a cat-free environment for their benefit as well as mine (whatever that means). If you think you would be interested in me, and would like to learn even more about what makes me special, please submit an application so you can talk to my foster mom and dad (because we all know dogs can’t talk). Thank You, Perk PERKINS is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about PERKINS, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. Story
🐶 🐕 LOKI Male border collie Mix 4 1/2 years, 40 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 LOKI is 40 pounds of love and affection. He is approximately 4 ½ years of age with a smooth, easy to maintain, black and white coat. LOKI adores people. He can think of nothing better than sitting for pets or rolling over for belly rubs. He absolutely loves the attention and adores the physical contact companionship any time of day or night. We had friends over for game night and we were very proud of how he behaved when meeting so many new people all at once. LOKI gets along well with other dogs, big or small. He loves to run and play, following his foster-siblings around wherever they go. He adored little Maizie, and now spends much of his time with Perkins. He does have the herding instinct and will round up anything on four legs. He pays far too much attention to the kitties and they are not fans, thus he may be best in a home free from felines, or at very least they must be dog savvy as he will stare and then chase. LOKI loves to play. One of his favorite games is playing fetch with a tennis ball. He will bring the ball back, but he is still learning to “drop it.” It’s almost like he is teasing you to get it from him. He has also never met a Frisbee he doesn’t like. He will run around the yard with it, playing keep-away while getting other dogs to chase him around. LOKI does best when his people are around. He can get anxious when we leave the house, though he is doing much better than when he first arrived. It is as if he were left alone a lot in the past, with not enough of the interaction and socialization he craves. He is more settled now that he knows he has the other dogs to lean on, and that we are coming back and will engage when we do. We also discovered he is much better off in a large plastic crate than he is a standard wire crate. LOKI travels well. If he sees an open car door he will hop in expecting to go for a ride. He generally rides in a crate, but would probably be fine in a harness and seatbelt. LOKI is also house and crate trained. He has not had an accident in his foster home. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night, generally not making a peep until we are up or the other dogs are ready for morning business. LOKI sits on command, but then will try to scoot closer to latch onto your leg and slowly crawl up your body if you let him. While he likes giving hugs we are working to curtail that trait as it seems more of an effort to “hold on” than show affection. It is a work-in-progress. LOKI is a very active boy and acts much younger than his age, yet he does respond to “Settle” or “Enough” and lies down on one of the dog beds. LOKI may enjoy popular dog sports like agility, nose work, or even Treibball. Training is fun with him because he is both treat and praise motivated. LOKI’S recall is quite good. Usually a sharp whistle and he comes running. Loki can be sensitive to a harsh voice, so calm, firm direction works best with this boy. LOKI is a sensitive boy who needs the right mix of love, patience, and positive experiences to continue confidence building. If you have love in your heart, the time he’d enjoy, and you understand the needs of a sensitive border collie, LOKI would love to meet you. Include him in all your activities and he will reward you ten-fold. LOKI is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about LOKI, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. Story
I have a 1 year old female border collie/blue heeler mix who is desperately needing a new home. Her name is Muffin, but we just call her Pup-Pup. I love her very much and had planned keeping her forever. Unfortunately, I also have chickens, cats and other livestock and she is NOT good with them. It kills me to give her up, but it is honestly the best thing for her and my other animals. I have worked with her to try and correct the problem but she is so driven to attack the chickens no matter what I tried. Please do not flag this post, I am truly looking for the best fit for my best friend. Please email me with any questions, I will respond as quickly as possible.
