Story
Meet Peyton, a sweet male Border Collie who adores affection from familiar humans. Despite his lack of confidence, Peyton will crawl over to spend time with a loving human, eagerly accepting treats from their hands and offering kisses in return. His shy little wag and curious nature shine through, and bravely, he makes great eye contact. Peyton prefers to observe the world from the back of his kennel, but will eagerly come forward for treats or to say hello. He enjoys laying down and rolling to the side for scratches, displaying his trust in those he feels comfortable with. Peyton is still learning to trust that humans are kind and gentle, but he undoubtedly deserves a loving home and a cozy couch life. He will need a patient adopter who will allow him to gain trust at his own pace. Peyton is empowered by the presence of other confident dogs, and does best with female dogs. He is still learning to walk on leash, and does best when walking with another dog. Because of this, he will need to go to a home with a fenced yard until he is more proficient at leash walking. Having a confident canine companion will allow Peyton to gain more confidence and explore all the world has to offer, though it is not required. Peyton eagerly awaits his chance for adoption at the National Mill Dog Rescue.- - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. When Nero came to our rescue he was very sweet but also very shy. But when one of our fosters took him home he just blossomed into a real sweetheart. He loves his foster parents and their dogs. They are teaching him to just be a happy dog. Nero is a little cautious at first with strangers but warms up quickly. According to his foster parents he is doing fabulous on the leash, heeling on and off leash. He likes to chew on bones and random toys, loves balls. Nero doesn't like or even need to be locked away in a kennel. His foster thinks it would be good for him to have another dog/buddy to play with. He needs patience and love to learn the rules of his new home, like any new adopted dog.  Nero was adopted in 2022 and recently returned because of inconvenience. We were told that he is a perfect dog, beautiful and a joy to be with. A BIG 6 FOOT FENCED YARD/PROPERTY FOR HIM TO PLAY AND RUN AROUND IS A MUST!! NO APPARTEMENTS/TOWNHOMES WITHOUT A YARD OR UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC FENCING PLEASE!!!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 7:19 pm

Story
Daisy is such a sweet and loyal girl! I recently had to move into an apartment from an house with an huge backyard and Daisy is not adjusting well to apartment life. I am older, and she is very energetic and loves to run and I am struggling to do that and keep up with her. She will be 1 years old in May, so she is still on the puppy side but is very smart. She usually is good with going with being house trained with a few accidents here and there. We would love to find a home that has a backyard for her to run in. She is good with animals that she knows-introducing she gets really scared. So another dog who is calm would be good. Daisy is great with cats! Loves to play with them. Overall, she is super sweet and funny! She is very loyal and loves to stay by your side and super funny.
