Story
Bethany is a 4.5-year-old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix with a bright mind and an even brighter personality. True to her herding breed roots, she’s incredibly intelligent, active, and always ready for her next adventure. Whether it’s a walk, playtime, or learning something new, Bethany thrives when she has both mental and physical stimulation. She’s a gentle and affectionate girl who loves people and isn’t shy about making new friends—strangers included! Bethany gets along well with both small and large dogs and does well with older kids, making her a great addition to many families. She’s also a fantastic travel buddy who doesn’t mind car rides at all. Bethany is both potty-trained and crate-trained, with good house manners—she doesn’t dig and generally knows how to behave indoors. That said, she prefers not to be left in her crate for long periods and would do best in a home where she can be part of the daily action. She’s currently working on her leash skills, as she can pull and gets distracted by things like bikes or skateboards, so continued training will help her shine even more. She’s alert and will bark when someone is at the door—and sometimes more than necessary—so she may need guidance to manage her vocal tendencies. Bethany also has a more dominant personality and would benefit from a confident, experienced owner who can provide structure and consistency. Because of her strong instincts, Bethany is not a good fit for a home with small animals. If you’re looking for a loyal, energetic, and loving companion who will keep you on your toes and fill your days with fun, Bethany might just be your perfect match!

Story
Jethro is a fun-loving, goofy boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This happy pup is always ready for the next adventure, whether that means a game of fetch, carrying his favorite toy around proudly, or bouncing around with excitement to greet his people. He’s playful, affectionate, social, and full of life, making him the kind of dog who brings energy and laughter wherever he goes. Jethro absolutely loves being around people and thrives on companionship. He’s confident, friendly, and gentle, with a cuddly side that enjoys curling up close after playtime is over. He gets along well with other dogs, has done well with kids ages 7 and older, and would likely fit into many different types of active homes. He also keeps his kennel clean and walks nicely on a leash. This energetic boy enjoys stuffies, squeaky toys, tug games, and just about anything that keeps him engaged and having fun. Like many excited young dogs, Jethro can sometimes forget his manners or get a little mouthy when he’s overly excited, but it comes from enthusiasm and playfulness rather than anything negative. With continued structure, exercise, and positive guidance, he’ll continue growing into an amazing companion. With his long legs, unique coat, and constant big tail wags, Jethro is impossible not to adore. He would thrive in a home that can keep up with his playful spirit while also giving him plenty of love and attention. If you’re looking for a sweet, adventurous best friend who can make you laugh one minute and cuddle up beside you the next, Jethro may be the perfect fit.

Story
Ozzy is a confident, adventurous boy with a goofy streak that keeps life entertaining. This handsome guy loves being out and about, exploring the world around him and keeping an eye on everything going on. He’s intelligent, curious, and independent, but he also has a sweet and gentle side that shines through once he gets comfortable with his people. Ozzy already knows “sit,” takes treats nicely, and enjoys going for walks, though he could still use some continued leash work as he learns better manners and focus. He’s an energetic dog who will thrive with daily exercise, structure, and routine to help him be his best self. Ozzy especially enjoys squeaky toys and would love an active home where he can stay mentally and physically engaged. Ozzy can be selective with other dogs and seems to do better with neutered males than females. He also appears to have a prey drive and enjoys chasing birds, so a secure fenced yard and careful introductions to other animals will be important. Because of his confidence level and personality, an experienced owner who understands boundaries, consistency, and continued training would help him succeed. He has kept his kennel clean and has done well with children ages 7 and older. With his goofy personality, alert expression, and adorable mix of floppy and pointy ears, Ozzy is full of character and charm. For the right person, he’ll make a loyal, fun-loving companion who is always ready for the next adventure.

Story
Lloyd is a gentle, loyal boy with a calm and easygoing personality that makes him a wonderful companion to have by your side. He was originally adopted from AWF about six months ago and recently returned through no fault of his own when his owners realized they were not emotionally ready for another dog. Despite the change, Lloyd has remained sweet, steady, and affectionate with the people around him. This handsome guy has a soft, independent nature balanced with a loyal side that enjoys companionship and quiet connection. He walks nicely on a leash, takes treats gently, keeps his kennel clean, and is house trained, making him an easy addition to many different types of homes. Lloyd also gets along well with other dogs and has done well with children ages 7 and older. While he enjoys daily activity and time outdoors, Lloyd is not overly demanding and seems happiest simply being included in everyday life with his people. He has a calm confidence about him and settles into routines nicely, which makes him a great option for first-time dog owners looking for a steady, loving companion. With his all-black face, silky coat, floppy ears, and adorable “radar ears” look with one ear up and one ear down, Lloyd has a unique charm that’s impossible not to love. He’s the kind of dog who quietly works his way into your heart and becomes a loyal best friend before you even realize it.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.King James, or KJ as we call him, has lived an awful lot of life for being just an 8-9 year old dog! He has experienced cruelty at the hands of humans when he was originally brought into rescue around 2020.  He had suffered a gun shot wound to the face that required surgery to remove bullet fragments, he made a full recovery and went on to find a home. Unfortunately, KJ was returned when his family dynamic changed and he again found himself alone. KJ is a terrific medium energy dog, he will greet you with a toothy grin showing off his megawatt smile!  KJ will enjoy being a man of routine in a quieter home, he is friendly with people but can be a little slow to warm up to strangers which is understandable given his history. However, once he befriends you, he will happily be your goofy, loving companion, enjoying all the car rides and walks.  KJ is not a fit with cats. He has done especially well with other medium sized female dogs and should be fine with easy going males around his size.  He has not been introduced to small dogs or children yet. Given that he is a little wary of new people, we feel that older children will be the best match for him. King James' adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives PLUS a free obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.  If you have animals in the home already, we will also conduct meet and greets to ensure it is a match.  Please submit an adoption application for consideration at Adopthope.org. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 23, 2026, 11:24 am
