Story
Meet Nova! A spirited and adventurous four-year-old Border Collie/American Pitbull Terrier mix from Waverly, NY, who shines with her sleek black coat accented by touches of white. Nova is a bundle of loyalty, energy, and charisma wrapped in a 65-pound package, ready to leap into the next chapter of her life with a family who shares her love for the great outdoors! True to her Border Collie roots, Nova thrives on activity and engagement. Hiking, swimming, long walks, and her latest discovery—fetch—are her favorite ways to spend the day. If you’re someone who craves adventure and fresh air, Nova might just be your perfect companion! She’s always up for exploring new trails and splashing in a cool lake by your side. Nova has a friendly and social nature when it comes to other dogs. She has done beautifully with her current canine companions and has greeted new doggy friends on outings with a wagging tail and open heart! While she hasn’t been around cats, her new family can introduce her slowly to see how she adjusts. Nova is also great with older children (she currently lives with two boys, ages 11 and 15) and could potentially thrive in a home with younger kids, given a careful and thoughtful introduction. As much as Nova loves playtime, she also appreciates a consistent routine for feeding, walking, and resting, which helps her feel balanced and secure. She’s house-trained, crate-trained, microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She knows commands like sit, stay, lay down, and “no feet” (no jumping), thanks to both her two-week professional training program and continued work at home. It’s important to note that Nova has occasionally shown resource-guarding tendencies, such as protecting toys or objects, especially when feeling overwhelmed or confused. She has also nipped in the past, though this behavior has not been seen for months. Nova thrives under the guidance of a calm and confident caregiver who understands her needs and can set clear boundaries using positive reinforcement techniques. For her comfort and safety, it’s recommended to train her to avoid situations that may trigger guarding, such as staying off furniture. Nova’s personality is as dynamic as her favorite hikes. She’s playful, affectionate, and thrives on companionship, but her ideal family will have experience with dogs like her and the time to continue building her confidence. Nova's waiting to explore the world with you, one paw at a time. Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet her—your next adventure awaits!

Story
Alder is an extremely sweet, quiet, shy boy. He is the dog version of an introvert. He is gentle and sticks to himself and is great with other dogs of all sizes and with cats. He doesn't engage much with them thought as he prefers to do his own thing. He has to be the most low maintenance and chill dog I've ever had in the rescue out of hundreds of dogs. He is hesitant with people he doesn't know but never aggressive. Not an ounce of aggression. He was listed as a pit bull mix at the shelter when he was smaller and still a younger puppy but now that he is an older puppy (about a year) it's obvious that he is not a pittie but looks more like a border collie. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue/reviews (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative) Adoption fee: $550 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95

Story
If you are the kind of adopter who is looking for a one-of-a-kind puppy, then say hello to our boy London. He is a 6-month-old Border Collie – Great Pyrenees mix with a short black and white coat. He currently weighs 37 pounds and is expected to be a medium sized pooch (under 60 pounds) when fully grown. Like most pups his age, London is a playful and curious boy. Lots of exploring and activity followed by a snooze, repeated over and over again! He enjoys the company of children and other dogs. His house, crate and leash training are in progress, and his opinion of cats is unknown. London has so much to offer, but in return he needs a great home that provides even more. He will thrive in an affectionate home with someone who has the time, desire and energy to train and socialize him so he can become an amazing lifelong companion. The best part? There is no need to fly across the pond to see London. He is close by and ready to give you a big, warm greeting! * Please keep in mind when considering adoption, dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust significantly better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for London is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.June 4, 2025, 6:48 am

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Miracle is the definition of strength, love, and second chances. Despite enduring unimaginable hardship, this sweet and spunky boy holds no grudges—he simply wants to love and be loved. Found in rural Arkansas with a shattered jaw after being shot, Miracle went without food or water for days before a Good Samaritan saved him. He underwent three surgeries to repair his injuries, and while his jaw remains slightly misaligned, it only adds to his charm. His spirit, however, was never broken. Miracle is a happy, playful, and incredibly affectionate pup. He is eager to please, food-motivated, and easy to train. His favorite place is by his people’s side—whether he’s enjoying an energetic play session or curling up for a well-deserved nap. He is house-trained, heartworm negative, neutered, and up to date on all vaccinations. We do not know his breed. Likely a mix of several breeds.  Miracle is loyal, attentive, and always comes when called. He does well with people and loves companionship, though he’s not a fan of cats or chickens. This brave boy has been through so much, and now he’s ready for the happy ending he deserves. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with an incredible heart, Miracle is waiting for you. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Courtesy post. We are listing Matilda for a very kind couple who took her in and is fostering her until a home is found. Please share. “Matilda is a sweet, smart girl who needs an active home. We think she's about a year old. She was picked up by a rescue and adopted by a woman with mobility issues. She developed some bad habits due to boredom and when the owner went to return her to the rescue, they had shut down. The shelters in our area are all full and most of the cities around here have bans against any dog that looks remotely like a pitbull, so we took her in 4 months ago to keep her from being put down. She learns quickly and is a great dog as long as she gets physical and mental exercise daily. She has been great with our dogs and at doggy daycare. I don't know if she's ever been around cats or kids. I think she'd be fine with kids, though I'd worry about her knocking them down if they're really little. She knows basic commands, is kennel trained and potty trained, and walks well on a leash. She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
