You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kestrel arrived at our shelter on 6/5/2026 as a transfer from one of our rescue friends. He was in a small impound and needed a place to go. He's around 6 months old and appears to be a shepherd mix of some type. He's a really nice boy who currently weighs around 35 pounds and does have a little growing left to do. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Kestrel is a loving and happy pup who will need some basic training. He's at a great age for training and should learn quickly. We do think he'd do well with other dogs and is young enough to learn to interact well with cats. He will need regular exercise as he is a young dog. He's a honey who would make a great companion! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Meet Oreo - a sweet young puppy who has been let down too many times in her short life. Oreo came to us from a partner impound when she was seized from her owners. She is thought to be between 4-5 months old and a border collie/husky mix. Unlike most puppies her age, Oreo has known cruelty and has had to overcome it.It takes her a little bit to trust people and warm up - but this is understandable. She is getting braver and braver everyday. Our wonderful trainer has been working with her since her arrival to help her adjust, desensitize, and learn that not all people are bad. Oreo would thrive with a family that has time to show her the good parts of the world and work on basic puppy training. Oreo is truly a diamond in the rough and she is really starting to shine! Blaze is a 54#, 5-year-old Border Collie with a sunny personality and a zest for life that's as bright as a perfect summer day. He thinks every day should include a game of fetch or frisbee and plenty of time spent with his favorite people. Happy-go-lucky, affectionate, and adventurous, Blaze loves being part of the action, whether that's a morning walk, a trip to the park, or a backyard barbecue. His energy level is a wonderful balance: he's always ready for fun and activity, and he's equally happy to relax and enjoy downtime with his family afterward. Blaze would thrive with an active, herding breed-experienced family that appreciates both his intelligence and enthusiasm. He walks beautifully on leash without pulling and is well-socialized in the world. He's crate trained and keeps four on the floor. He knows a few basic obedience commands and wants to learn more. Meet Cupcake, affectionately known as Cece. Simply stated, she is a delight! This 36#, 12.5-year-old Sheltie and Border Collie mix who proves that age is just a number. She has plenty of pep in her step, a lovely prance when she is happiest, and a zest for life that charms everyone she meets. Describing Cupcake is easy. She's friendly, affectionate, confident, curious, observant and just a bit spicy. She wants to be close to her people, joining in on whatever they are doing. Whether its accompanying them on a leisurely stroll, supervising backyard activities, or simply lounging nearby for ear and butt scratches, Cece enjoys being part of the family. Her ideal day includes a couple of walks where she can stop and investigate interesting smells along the way. Her ears perk up, her tail rises proudly, and off she goes, ready to explore the world one sniff at a time. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 4 to 5 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Volunteer fave in the house! Bram arrived at the shelter on 9/29/2024, after he went unclaimed at the city pound. He's a happy and energetic husky mix with icy blue eyes. We do think he's mixed with some type of herding breed. He's friendly and ready for action at all times. He's also very loving. His size is in the medium range and he's around 3 years old. He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped. His fee is $150. We're hoping to find Bram a home that has some experience with husky types. They are notorious clowns who love to run! Bram does require basic obedience training and a lot of regular exercise to keep him settled. He loves to play and be with people. He has a tendency to be strong willed so he needs an experienced owner who is ready and willing to work with this. Cats are most likely a no for him. An adult only home would be best and a fenced yard would be perfection. He could do well with a well mannered dog of similar size.
