Story
Sheila is a small mixed breed girl born in May 2025. She was found near Twin Lakes and brought to us. Sheila is so friendly and sweet, we can't imagine why someone leave her behind. Sheila is all vetted up and ready to find a new home and be done with the shelter! She would probably be fine with other dogs with a proper introduction and we don't know how she feels about cats. She would love a family with older kids that would love her and play with her. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Baby Chai is a 3 month old puppy with a soft spirit and so much potential just waiting to shine. She came to BENCHS after being given away for free online, and we are so thankful she is now safe and getting the thoughtful placement she deserves. She is estimated to be a Heeler, Collie, and Great Pyrenees mix, and currently weighs just under 20 pounds. Baby Chai will likely grow into a medium to large sized dog. At first, Baby Chai can be a little shy as she takes in the world around her, but once she warms up, she is incredibly sweet and forms strong, meaningful bonds with her people. She is the kind of dog who will truly connect with her person. She does show herding breed characteristics, so she is looking for an active home that understands those instincts and is excited to provide both physical exercise and mental enrichment. Baby Chai is eager to learn and would greatly benefit from continued obedience training to help her grow into a confident, well rounded companion. She is looking for a home that can offer her space to explore, guidance as she learns, and the patience to let her blossom at her own pace. In return, she will give you a deeply loyal and loving bond that only a dog like her can offer. If you are ready for an active, intelligent, and deeply devoted companion, Baby Chai might just be your perfect match.

She walks nicely on a leash without pulling and is attentive to her handler. She’s a quick learner who picks up on new commands and routines with ease, making her a joy to train. Around the house, she’s affectionate and loves to snuggle up on the couch, happily giving kisses and soaking up attention. She has decent recall and does well when called, though like many dogs, she can’t resist the temptation to chase a squirrel if one darts by. She enjoys staying busy and especially loves chewing on a Himalayan chew to relax. Lou is crate trained and settles in comfortably, making her an easy addition to a home routine. She has a sweet, playful personality and a great balance of energy—happy to go for walks or play, but also content to relax and be close to her people. Lou would make a wonderful companion for a family or individual looking for a loving, well-adjusted dog.May 12, 2026, 11:30 am

Story
Meet Frannie 🐾 Frannie is a young cattle dog mix with a big heart and classic puppy energy. She’s affectionate, playful, and loves being around people and other dogs. Frannie does best with plenty of physical exercise, mental enrichment, and lots of durable chew toys to keep her busy and happy. She’s still working on her basic manners and will need continued training, especially with leash skills. Frannie can be a little anxious and may take some time to settle into a new home, so a patient adopter who understands the importance of decompression time will help her thrive. Because she can be vocal, a home without shared walls is ideal. Frannie plays well with other dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion, though it’s not required. She’s been exposed to cats and does well with children ages 4 and up. Her new home will need a 48” crate and an understanding of herding breeds and their unique needs. Adoption fee $350. Apply to adopt at campcompanion.org.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Volunteer fave in the house! Bram arrived at the shelter on 9/29/2024, after he went unclaimed at the city pound. He's a happy and energetic husky mix with icy blue eyes. We do think he's mixed with some type of herding breed. He's friendly and ready for action at all times. He's also very loving. His size is in the medium range and he's around 3 years old. He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped. His fee is $150. We're hoping to find Bram a home that has some experience with husky types. They are notorious clowns who love to run! Bram does require basic obedience training and a lot of regular exercise to keep him settled. He loves to play and be with people. He has a tendency to be strong willed so he needs an experienced owner who is ready and willing to work with this. Cats are most likely a no for him. An adult only home would be best and a fenced yard would be perfection. He could do well with a well mannered dog of similar size. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application as been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Keep an eye on your emails if you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 12, 2026, 11:30 am
