Story
Curious. Bouncy. Gentle. Sweet. Brave. Lasso is a handsome, 2-year-old, 38# Border Collie who is learning that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. At first, he may watch from a distance, quietly taking everything in with thoughtful eyes. With patience, consistency, and kindness, you'll witness something truly special. His confidence blossoms, his playful side emerges, and his affectionate heart shines brighter every day. Lasso is the perfect companion for a family that appreciates the intelligence and sensitivity of herding breeds. He enjoys daily walks, romping around the yard, and chasing his canine friends in joyful games of tag. When playtime winds down, you'll find him happily sorting through the toy box or curled up with a Kong. If food is involved, Lasso is all in. Treats are the fastest way to his heart. Lasso is searching for a home that understands trust is mutual, and it is earned with kindness, patience and time. He must have a mature, confident canine sibling in his new home. He seeks out his crate when he needs a quiet place to relax. His ideal family will provide a daily routine, celebrate every victory, and allow him to move at his own pace. Respectful kids aged 12+ could be a good match. A fully fenced yard is required to allow him a safe place to romp and play. He's working on leash manners and basic obedience, making steady progress every day. We think he would be ok with dog-savvy cats. The family lucky enough to earn Lasso's love and trust will discover an extraordinary companion. If you are willing to meet him where he is today and be part of his journey, Lasso promises a lifetime of loyalty, quiet companionship. The incredible joy of watching a once-cautious dog become the very best version of himself is impossible to describe. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Lasso is being fostered in Minneapolis, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

If you're looking for a best friend who is equal parts adventure buddy and devoted cuddle companion, Sonic might be your perfect match. He is adoring, playful, affectionate, exuberant and effervescent. He loves life, spreading contagious enthusiasm wherever he goes. At 5 years old and 36#, this Border Collie mix knows how to balance his love of activity with downtime. Outside, he's ready to kick life into high gear. Whether he is chasing his beloved soccer ball or heading out for a walk, Sonic loves to be on the go. Back home, he's happy to settle, soaking up affection from his people or enjoying a peaceful nap while they work or go about their day. Sonic is a smart guy, true to his breed mix. He knows basic obedience commands, loves his crate and walks nicely on leash. He won't miss a squirrel sighting, so you don't have to worry about a clandestine invasion! He gets along well with other dogs, spending time with canine friends at daycare or boarding. He's comfortable meeting new people and dogs. We are not sure what he would think of kitties. He is looking for a deep connection with his people. Sonic's ideal family wants a four-legged best friend in all that life has to offer. They enjoy an active lifestyle with plenty of walks and playtime to keep him occupied. He's also proven to be a wonderful family dog, currently living with kids aged 7 and 10. A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred so he has room to stretch his legs and chase that treasured soccer ball. If your ideal dog loves to play and explore as much as he enjoys relaxing together in the evening, and you enjoy giving affection as much as you receive it in return, Sonic could be your perfect match. First, his looks catch your eye. Then you learn about his personality and you are hooked! Blaze is a 54#, 5-year-old Border Collie with a sunny personality and a zest for life that's as bright as a perfect summer day. He thinks every day should include a game of fetch or frisbee and plenty of time spent with his favorite people. Happy-go-lucky, affectionate, and adventurous, Blaze loves being part of the action, whether that's a morning walk, a trip to the park, or a backyard barbecue. His energy level is a wonderful balance: he's always ready for fun and activity, and he's equally happy to relax and enjoy downtime with his family afterward. Blaze would thrive with an active, herding breed-experienced family that appreciates both his intelligence and enthusiasm. He walks beautifully on leash without pulling and is well-socialized in the world. He's crate trained and keeps four on the floor. He knows a few basic obedience commands and wants to learn more. With his smarts, a little time and some good treats, and we bet he can learn anything! A fenced yard would be ideal for Blaze so he has room to stretch his legs and enjoy his favorite games. He can happily live as an only dog or with a canine companion. He is a herding dog, which includes nipping at ankles if given the opportunity. Families with older kids are the best fit no littles, please. He likes to check cats out, but is not aggressive. He could live with dog-savvy felines. Blaze will be an even happier boy when he loses roughly 7-8 lbs. If you're looking for a loyal adventure buddy who will happily join you for all of life's summer fun, and then curl up nearby when the day is done, Blaze may be your perfect match! APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Blaze is being fostered in Clear Lake, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. Meet Blaze and Buddy! This adorable bonded pair is looking for a forever home where they can stay together and continue being best friends. Blaze is a Border Collie mix, and Buddy is a doodle mix who will need regular grooming appointments to keep his coat healthy and looking his best. They are playful, happy dogs who love being together and would do best with a family that can give them plenty of exercise, attention, and opportunities to get their zoomies out. Blaze has a little more energy and would make a great hiking or running companion, while Buddy is happy to join in on the fun. Both boys walk nicely on a leash, keep their kennel tidy, and are ready to bring lots of love and laughter to their new home. These two are hoping to find a family who will love them both and keep their special bond intact. Story
Meet Cupcake, affectionately known as Cece. Simply stated, she is a delight! This 36#, 12.5-year-old Sheltie and Border Collie mix who proves that age is just a number. She has plenty of pep in her step, a lovely prance when she is happiest, and a zest for life that charms everyone she meets. Describing Cupcake is easy. She's friendly, affectionate, confident, curious, observant and just a bit spicy. She wants to be close to her people, joining in on whatever they are doing. Whether its accompanying them on a leisurely stroll, supervising backyard activities, or simply lounging nearby for ear and butt scratches, Cece enjoys being part of the family. Her ideal day includes a couple of walks where she can stop and investigate interesting smells along the way. Her ears perk up, her tail rises proudly, and off she goes, ready to explore the world one sniff at a time. A few tosses of a Frisbee or ball, rolling in the grass, watching birds from the deck, and savoring peanut butter frozen treats are also high on her list of favorites. Cupcake would thrive in a home that appreciates a medium-energy companion. She doesn't need a fenced yard if she can spend time exploring safely on a leash. She's fine with another calm, low-key dog or as the canine center of attention. She does well with cats and even naps alongside her feline friends. Because quick movements can startle her, Cupcake would do best in a home without young children. She prefers to dine alone without concern for another dog trying to get at her food dish. She is completing a 30-day course of doxycycline for Lyme disease as a precaution: she is not symptomatic. She is a healthy, happy girl with lots of love to give. If you're looking for a loyal companion for walks, adventures, and cozy evenings, Cece may be the perfect match. APPLY to adopt her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Cupcake is being fostered in Lindstrom, MN. Cupcake's adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. She is spayed and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Meet Callie – The Smart Girl with a Gentle Heart Callie is the kind of dog who forms deep connections with the people she loves. Beneath her thoughtful, sometimes cautious exterior is a sweet, affectionate companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her family. She may not be the dog who rushes up to greet every stranger, but once she trusts you, her loving personality shines brightly. This beautiful Border Collie mix combines intelligence, playfulness, and loyalty into one wonderful package. Whether she's hiking a trail, working on a puzzle toy, playing with her favorite dog friends, or cuddling on the couch after a busy day, Callie is happiest when she has both mental and physical outlets along with people she can trust. Callie Loves: -Walks and hiking adventures -Car rides -Running and exploring -Fetch -Tug toys -Sniffing new smells -Playing with other dogs -Playing with toys -Chewing bones -Training sessions -Treat puzzles and enrichment games -Watching TV with her family -Cuddling -Zoomies -Quiet relaxation Callie's Favorite Thing: Her people. Whether you've been gone for an hour or all day, Callie greets her family with the same joyful excitement every time they come home. Her love is genuine, enthusiastic, and impossible not to appreciate. A Loving Dog Who Needs Understanding: Callie is a smart and sensitive dog who thrives with patience and consistency. She can be shy when meeting new people and often prefers slow introductions. While she is not aggressive, she can become overwhelmed in busy environments and tends to do best in quieter settings where she has space to process new experiences. Her foster reports that she is selective about who she chooses to interact with and often ignores strangers altogether. Once she feels comfortable, however, she becomes affectionate, playful, and eager to engage. Callie also has some leash reactivity toward people and dogs. Her triggers can be inconsistent, but she has shown that she tends to warm up more quickly when introductions happen outside of the home. With continued training, management, and patience, she continues to make progress. A Few Things to Know: -Approximately 3 years old -House trained -Crate trained -Loves other dogs -Cat compatibility is unknown -Does well with children but is generally not interested in playing with them -Smart and eager to learn -May pull on leash -Can become overstimulated in busy environments -Benefits from slow introductions to people and other dogs. -May have some separation anxiety tendencies -Thrives with routine and structure Great Activities for Callie: -Quiet neighborhood walks -Hiking adventures -Car rides -Enrichment games -Training sessions -Low-stimulation outings -One-on-one bonding time -Relaxing evenings at home Best Match: -Patient adopters -Active individuals or couples -Experienced or dog-savvy owners -Homes with other friendly dogs -People who enjoy training and enrichment -Families willing to continue building her confidence Three Words That Describe Callie Best: ❤️ Loving ❤️ Attentive ❤️ Happy-Go-Lucky Foster Location: Eau Claire, WI The foster is willing to meet approved adopters within approximately one hour of Eau Claire, pending schedule availability. Callie's past is unknown, but what is clear is that she has a tremendous amount of love to give. She is a sweet, intelligent dog who simply needs a family willing to understand her sensitive nature and help her continue building confidence. For the right adopter, Callie will be an incredibly loyal companion who offers affection, devotion, and a lifetime of adventures. Ready to meet Callie? Story
Hello there! I'm Trinket, a 9-year-old Australian Shepherd with a heart as big as my smile. My theme song is "Take a Chance on Me" by ABBA. All I need is one chance to show you what a wonderful companion I am. Friendly, loyal, eager to please, and always ready to learn something new are great words to describe me. My foster family says I'm a happy, kind soul, which works too. Every person and dog I meet is my new best friend (and that includes folks at the vet's office)! At 62 pounds, there's a lot of me to love right now. I already feel better having lost some weight and am determined to keep going. Like everything in life, I'm approaching my fitness journey with optimistic determination. I'm looking for a family that will help me achieve my healthy weight with lots of fun together along the way. When I'm not busy winning hearts, you'll find me chasing my beloved herding balls, squeaking a favorite toy, or hoping my family might break out the watermelon - yum! My ideal home is on the quieter side with an active spin. I like to spend my days doing things with my favorite people, going for walks, and enjoying plenty of snuggle time. I am great on leash, and love to chase critters if given the opportunity (part of my workout routine). A fenced yard would be fantastic, or consistent leash management works for me too. I can happily live as an only dog or share my home with other canine friends. I've also lived with cats in the past. Calm, respectful children who want to play with me would be great! They tell me I have early kidney disease, which means my food and medications cost about $55/mo. The payback is HUGE: all the love, loyalty, and joy of a world-class wonderful companion. So, what do you say? Take a chance on me! Promise I'm worth it. Trinket is being fostered in East Bethel, MN. His adoption fee is fully sponsored for his lucky forever family. Trinket is also available for Foster-To-Adopt (FTA). FTA provides an opportunity for families to get to know a dog before moving forward with formal adoption. During the foster period, HOABCR supplies everything Trinket needs from food and medication to other supplies (crate, leashes, etc.) and covers all vetting. Trinket is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Paul.

Story
Hi, I’m Cayden. I’m a 5 yr old, 42# Australian Shepherd with luxurious hair, soulful eyes, and a deep love for my people. When we meet, I’ll roll over and let you rub my belly. That’s how you know we are officially friends! I’m a chill guy who likes to see new places with my people and spend time together. My "off switch” means I’m perfectly happy being home and hanging and do not need to train for a marathon. Walking around the neighborhood is my idea of a good time - all those smells! I also enjoy activities like car rides, pontoon adventures, and quality cuddle sessions. I’m cuddly, calm, thoughtful, and just a tiny bit clutsy. Hardwood floors and I are currently in negotiations. (Sometimes my feet go one direction while the rest of me goes another!) I’m friendly with new people and dogs. I could live with another low-key pooch or be the only dog in my home. My foster family thinks cats would be ok for me. Honesty is important in any relationship. You should know that I get distracted by things like fast moving bikes, rollerblades, or very energetic dogs. I may need help managing my big feelings about all that movement. If you’re observant, patient, and understand herding breeds, we’ll do great together. My dream match? Quiet homebodies with kind hearts, no young kids, and lots of love to give. I don’t need a huge yard or nonstop entertainment. I just want my person. Maybe that’s you. So… what do you think? Want to do this "life" thing together? Cayden had a balloon angioplasty on June 16 to help his heart work more efficiently and came through the procedure like a champ! He is excited to meet his forever family and live a full, fun life! Cayden is being fostered in Minneapolis, MN. His adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. Paul.
