Story
At just 18 months old and around 40# (plus a whole lot of fluff!), Marco is an adorable Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix (our best guess). He is a loyal, slightly clumsy and utterly lovable Velcro dog, happiest wherever his people are. With lovely medium energy, Marco is always up for playing and doing things with his family. He is equally happy relaxing in the yard, soaking up the sunshine while watching his favorite show, Bunny TV. Cuddling with his humans is another favorite pastime. He discovered the joy of toys, and his goofy play style is downright adorable. Marco can be shy when meeting new people. He prefers to take his time, observe, think things over, and then decide when he's ready to approach. Once he feels safe, his sweet personality shines. Patience, kindness, and allowing him to move at his own pace are key to building his confidence and winning his trust. The ideal family for this handsome lad will help him become more confident without sheltering him from the world. He wants to explore, experience new things, and expand his horizons. He loves being outdoors and loves going for walks. A securely fenced yard would be amazing: he would love a safe place to explore and gain faith in himself. Marco does well with the cats in his foster home, simply ignoring them. We know from his prior home that he cannot live with free-range chickens. A calm, confident canine companion could be a good match after proper introductions. He could live with mature children who understand that loud noises and being startled aren't his jam. He is housebroken once settled into a new routine. Relaxes in his crate when his people are away. He wants to take his new family to obedience classes to learn lots of things and spend time together. You will not find a more devoted companion than Marco. He cannot wait to find a deep connection with a special family that will treasure him as much as he will adore them. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Marco is being fostered in Rochester, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Story
First, his looks catch your eye. Then you learn about his personality and you are hooked! Blaze is a 54#, 5-year-old Border Collie with a sunny personality and a zest for life that's as bright as a perfect summer day. He thinks every day should include a game of fetch or frisbee and plenty of time spent with his favorite people. Happy-go-lucky, affectionate, and adventurous, Blaze loves being part of the action, whether that's a morning walk, a trip to the park, or a backyard barbecue. His energy level is a wonderful balance: he's always ready for fun and activity, and he's equally happy to relax and enjoy downtime with his family afterward. Blaze would thrive with an active, herding breed-experienced family that appreciates both his intelligence and enthusiasm. He walks beautifully on leash without pulling and is well-socialized in the world. He's crate trained and keeps four on the floor. He knows a few basic obedience commands and wants to learn more. With his smarts, a little time and some good treats, and we bet he can learn anything! A fenced yard would be ideal for Blaze so he has room to stretch his legs and enjoy his favorite games. He can happily live as an only dog or with a canine companion. He is a herding dog, which includes nipping at ankles if given the opportunity. Families with older kids are the best fit no littles, please. He likes to check cats out, but is not aggressive. He could live with dog-savvy felines. Blaze will be an even happier boy when he loses roughly 7-8 lbs. If you're looking for a loyal adventure buddy who will happily join you for all of life's summer fun, and then curl up nearby when the day is done, Blaze may be your perfect match! APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Blaze is being fostered in Clear Lake, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. Story
Meet Cupcake, affectionately known as Cece. Simply stated, she is a delight! This 36#, 12.5-year-old Sheltie and Border Collie mix who proves that age is just a number. She has plenty of pep in her step, a lovely prance when she is happiest, and a zest for life that charms everyone she meets. Describing Cupcake is easy. She's friendly, affectionate, confident, curious, observant and just a bit spicy. She wants to be close to her people, joining in on whatever they are doing. Whether its accompanying them on a leisurely stroll, supervising backyard activities, or simply lounging nearby for ear and butt scratches, Cece enjoys being part of the family. Her ideal day includes a couple of walks where she can stop and investigate interesting smells along the way. Her ears perk up, her tail rises proudly, and off she goes, ready to explore the world one sniff at a time. A few tosses of a Frisbee or ball, rolling in the grass, watching birds from the deck, and savoring peanut butter frozen treats are also high on her list of favorites. Cupcake would thrive in a home that appreciates a medium-energy companion. She doesn't need a fenced yard if she can spend time exploring safely on a leash. She's fine with another calm, low-key dog or as the canine center of attention. She does well with cats and even naps alongside her feline friends. Because quick movements can startle her, Cupcake would do best in a home without young children. She prefers to dine alone without concern for another dog trying to get at her food dish. She is a healthy, happy girl with lots of love to give. If you're looking for a loyal companion for walks, adventures, and cozy evenings, Cece may be the perfect match. APPLY to adopt her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Cupcake is being fostered in Lindstrom, MN. Cupcake's adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor. She is spayed and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Meet Callie – The Smart Girl with a Gentle Heart Callie is the kind of dog who forms deep connections with the people she loves. Beneath her thoughtful, sometimes cautious exterior is a sweet, affectionate companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her family. She may not be the dog who rushes up to greet every stranger, but once she trusts you, her loving personality shines brightly. This beautiful Border Collie mix combines intelligence, playfulness, and loyalty into one wonderful package. Whether she's hiking a trail, working on a puzzle toy, playing with her favorite dog friends, or cuddling on the couch after a busy day, Callie is happiest when she has both mental and physical outlets along with people she can trust. Callie Loves: -Walks and hiking adventures -Car rides -Running and exploring -Fetch -Tug toys -Sniffing new smells -Playing with other dogs -Playing with toys -Chewing bones -Training sessions -Treat puzzles and enrichment games -Watching TV with her family -Cuddling -Zoomies -Quiet relaxation Callie's Favorite Thing: Her people. Whether you've been gone for an hour or all day, Callie greets her family with the same joyful excitement every time they come home. Her love is genuine, enthusiastic, and impossible not to appreciate. A Loving Dog Who Needs Understanding: Callie is a smart and sensitive dog who thrives with patience and consistency. She can be shy when meeting new people and often prefers slow introductions. While she is not aggressive, she can become overwhelmed in busy environments and tends to do best in quieter settings where she has space to process new experiences. Her foster reports that she is selective about who she chooses to interact with and often ignores strangers altogether. Once she feels comfortable, however, she becomes affectionate, playful, and eager to engage. Callie also has some leash reactivity toward people and dogs. Her triggers can be inconsistent, but she has shown that she tends to warm up more quickly when introductions happen outside of the home. With continued training, management, and patience, she continues to make progress. A Few Things to Know: -Approximately 3 years old -House trained -Crate trained -Loves other dogs -Cat compatibility is unknown -Does well with children but is generally not interested in playing with them -Smart and eager to learn -May pull on leash -Can become overstimulated in busy environments -Benefits from slow introductions to people and other dogs. -May have some separation anxiety tendencies -Thrives with routine and structure Great Activities for Callie: -Quiet neighborhood walks -Hiking adventures -Car rides -Enrichment games -Training sessions -Low-stimulation outings -One-on-one bonding time -Relaxing evenings at home Best Match: -Patient adopters -Active individuals or couples -Experienced or dog-savvy owners -Homes with other friendly dogs -People who enjoy training and enrichment -Families willing to continue building her confidence Three Words That Describe Callie Best: ❤️ Loving ❤️ Attentive ❤️ Happy-Go-Lucky Foster Location: Eau Claire, WI The foster is willing to meet approved adopters within approximately one hour of Eau Claire, pending schedule availability. Callie's past is unknown, but what is clear is that she has a tremendous amount of love to give. She is a sweet, intelligent dog who simply needs a family willing to understand her sensitive nature and help her continue building confidence. For the right adopter, Callie will be an incredibly loyal companion who offers affection, devotion, and a lifetime of adventures. Ready to meet Callie? Story
Hello there! I'm Trinket, a 9-year-old Australian Shepherd with a heart as big as my smile. My theme song is "Take a Chance on Me" by ABBA. All I need is one chance to show you what a wonderful companion I am. Friendly, loyal, eager to please, and always ready to learn something new are great words to describe me. My foster family says I'm a happy, kind soul, which works too. Every person and dog I meet is my new best friend (and that includes folks at the vet's office)! At 62 pounds, there's a lot of me to love right now. I already feel better having lost some weight and am determined to keep going. Like everything in life, I'm approaching my fitness journey with optimistic determination. I'm looking for a family that will help me achieve my healthy weight with lots of fun together along the way. When I'm not busy winning hearts, you'll find me chasing my beloved herding balls, squeaking a favorite toy, or hoping my family might break out the watermelon - yum! My ideal home is on the quieter side with an active spin. I like to spend my days doing things with my favorite people, going for walks, and enjoying plenty of snuggle time. I am great on leash, and love to chase critters if given the opportunity (part of my workout routine). A fenced yard would be fantastic, or consistent leash management works for me too. I can happily live as an only dog or share my home with other canine friends. I've also lived with cats in the past. Calm, respectful children who want to play with me would be great! They tell me I have early kidney disease, which means my food and medications cost about $55/mo. The payback is HUGE: all the love, loyalty, and joy of a world-class wonderful companion. So, what do you say? Take a chance on me! Promise I'm worth it. Trinket is being fostered in East Bethel, MN. His adoption fee is fully sponsored for his lucky forever family. Trinket is also available for Foster-To-Adopt (FTA). FTA provides an opportunity for families to get to know a dog before moving forward with formal adoption. During the foster period, HOABCR supplies everything Trinket needs from food and medication to other supplies (crate, leashes, etc.) and covers all vetting. Trinket is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Paul.
