Story
🐾 Meet Coal 🐾 Coal is a handsome 3–4-year-old Border Collie x Lab mix who found his way to us through animal control, so much of his past remains a mystery. What isn’t a mystery is the kind of dog he is now—an incredibly sweet soul with a heart that clearly longs for human connection. Coal absolutely craves affection and attention. He leans into love, seeks out people, and seems happiest just being close to someone who will give him gentle reassurance. At the same time, we suspect he may not have had a lot of hands-on guidance in his previous life—especially when it comes to things like leash skills. He’s not difficult or resistant, just a bit unsure- anxious because he doesn't understand what's being asked of him. It's as if he’s still learning what it means to be guided and supported by a person. With patience, consistency, and kindness, Coal has so much potential to blossom. He would thrive in a home willing to help him build confidence, show him the ropes, and give him the affection he’s clearly been missing. In return, Coal promises loyalty, sweetness, and a deep appreciation for the love he’s given. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion and don’t mind helping a deserving dog learn the world at his own pace, Coal just might be your perfect match. 🖤

Story
Askem is a sensitive and soulful little guy who’s had his world turned upside down recently. At around 25 pounds, he’s on the smaller side — possibly a mix of Heeler and Chihuahua — and combines the sharp intelligence and need for purpose of a working dog with the emotional sensitivity and wariness that can come with tiny-dog genetics. The result? A dog who feels deeply, bonds strongly, and needs a bit of extra support navigating change. Askem was originally adopted from us as a puppy and spent the majority of his life with his first owner, who adored him. They gave him a loving, stable home for nearly two years and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him — affectionate, loyal, and a true companion. Unfortunately, a sudden change in their living situation meant they could no longer care for him. They tried to rehome Askem to a relative, but the match just wasn’t right, and after a short time in that second home, Askem found himself back with us — confused, overwhelmed, and unsure of what was happening. Understandably, he hasn’t adjusted well to the change. He’s a naturally nervous dog, and losing the only home he ever knew has shaken his sense of security. In the short-term home he passed through, Askem was reported to struggle with house training and was defensive with guests. These behaviors aren’t uncommon for dogs dealing with stress and uncertainty — especially those like Askem who are already prone to anxiety. It seems likely that he tried to cope the only way he knew how: by overcompensating with controlling behavior (classic Heeler) and reacting quickly when he felt vulnerable (classic Chihuahua). What Askem needs now is someone who can see past those stress responses and understand what they really mean — a dog who is insecure, not difficult. He would thrive with a confident, patient person who can offer him structure, predictability, and firm-but-kind boundaries. He’s the kind of dog who finds comfort in routine, and who will slowly let his guard down when he knows what to expect and who to trust. Beneath the nerves, Askem is incredibly affectionate. Sit down with him and speak softly, and you’ll see the longing in his eyes — he wants to be close, to crawl into your lap, to melt under your touch. He loves scritches and rubdowns and clearly desires connection. We're giving him the time and space he needs right now to rebuild his confidence, and he's already starting to show those sweet, loyal glimpses of the dog he once was. Askem isn’t a dog for everyone — he needs a calm home, likely without young children, and with someone who’s familiar with shy or reactive dogs. But for the right person, he’ll be a deeply rewarding companion. If you believe that trust is something worth earning, and you're ready to help a dog rediscover what it means to feel safe, Askem just might be waiting for you.

Story
Cocoa is a 9-month-old Cattle Dog/Terrier mix who came to us as a stray after being found on a back road with her presumed sister, Marshmallow. While we don’t know much about her past, Cocoa has quickly shown us what a sweet and affectionate girl she is. She loves people and soaks up attention, always eager for pets, belly rubs, or just being near you. True to her breed mix, Cocoa is full of energy and enthusiasm—she practically vibrates with excitement when it’s time to play or go for a walk. She will do best in an active home that can keep her busy with exercise, training, and adventures. At 28 lbs, she’s the perfect medium size for tagging along on hikes, car rides, or simply curling up at the end of the day. Cocoa has so much love to give and is ready to find a forever family who will appreciate her happy spirit and give her the guidance she needs to grow into an amazing lifelong companion.

Story
🐾 Meet Rocket 🐾 Rocket is a 3-year-old Cattle Dog whose world was turned upside down due to an unfortunate and heartbreaking situation. He didn’t lose his home because he wasn’t loved or wanted—in fact, quite the opposite. Rocket had a family, a kid who adored him, and a home where he was clearly cherished. During a child’s birthday party, with lots of extra kids running around (as kids do), Rocket handled the excitement well for quite some time. But as a herding breed, his instincts eventually kicked in. In an attempt to regain control of the chaos, Rocket nipped a child on the back of the leg. While the situation was resolved and no lasting harm was done, the landlord ultimately decided Rocket could no longer stay in the home. His kid was devastated, and Rocket didn’t understand why everything suddenly changed. The transition has been very hard on him. He’s still adjusting to the shelter environment, which is a far cry from the life he knew. Even so, we are more than willing to be a character witness for Rocket—because this boy is good. Rocket is incredibly sweet and affectionate. He seeks out human attention and leans into love, making it very clear that he’s been well cared for and deeply bonded to his people. We were told he is house trained, has lived with kids his whole life, does okay with cats, and has had doggie friends in the past. Rocket would thrive in a home that understands and respects herding breed instincts—one that can provide structure, guidance, and appropriate outlets for his intelligence and energy. With the right environment and expectations, Rocket has so much love and loyalty to give. This wasn’t a bad dog situation. This was a heartbreaking circumstance. Rocket deserves a second chance at the stable, understanding home he so desperately misses. 💙
