Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and then complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.   Spark is ready to take on the world. He has a brave, curious heart and wants to explore will mature to around 40 pounds. A poster child for his breed, Spark is lively, energetic, and smart. He wants to be with his people, doing what they are doing. Spark is a friendly boy, meeting new human and canine friends with confidence. Fully engaged with people and a pro at using his Border Collie eyes, he already communicates when he needs to go outside or when dinner is late. Spark quickly picked up our routines without a second thought and craves new experiences. A busy family that understands herding dogs and is committed to great socialization (including sights, sounds, surfaces and people) would be fantastic for Spark. When combined with obedience classes (which he will ace, no doubt), Spark will have the foundation needed to be a well-rounded, well-mannered adult dog. Spark is learning all the things puppies need to know: potty training, relaxing in a crate, and walking on leash. He would adore a canine BFF, Spark loves car rides and toys although he does need some supervision as his natural curiosity has him shredding toys at the moment.  He will chase a ball and we are working on him bringing it back.  A balance of physical and mental exercise is key to his heart.   Families with kids around 10+ are a good fit. Spark needs a potty break every few hours at his young age and would be in heaven with a fenced yard. From foster mom: “Spark is interested in everything! He is a fun boy with a captivating personality that draws you in. He makes me laugh and impresses me all at the same time  He’s a super boy and my entire family fell in love with him.  I have taken him to many busy agility trials where he has yet to meet a stranger. Spark to my knowledge has not been around cats.” Spark is being fostered in the St Louis Mo area .Click here to watch a video of Spark (2023).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 6, 2023, 9:56 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and then complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.   Westley is a medium energy, affectionate, 50 pound boy estimated to be 2 years old. Jolly ball, tennis ball and frisbee fetching are his passions. We don’t know his history before he arrived at the pound in late September, but due to his knowledge of commands, we think he was a house dog. Westley would do well as an only dog or with a submissive dog buddy. He needs time to get to know dog friends and gets along best with adult dogs. He is good with cats.  Westley’s biggest need is confidence building. He can appear disobedient when he pulls on the leash, barks at strange dogs and jumps to hug visitors. A trainer’s second set of eyes saw subtle stress signals and that he was overwhelmed. Smart dogs like him need to be told what to do before they feel the need to act on their own. Westley needs a positive reinforcement training program and a consistent routine. He will truly blossom when he knows his owner makes the rules and that he is safe. Westley is a champion snuggler, knows many basic commands and keywords, is housebroken and crate trained. He would do best in a house instead of an apartment. He would love a yard for his beloved fetch and frisbee games and sometimes enjoys a bit of chase playtime with dogs he knows.  Westley is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 6, 2023, 9:56 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and then complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.   Hi, my name is Bingo! I’m an adorable little guy weighing only 28lbs. I’m shy and nervous around new people and dogs at first but if you give me a chance, I promise to steal your heart! I absolutely adore children & my foster border collie brother. Giving kisses and snuggling are my specialty. I also love to run around the yard with my dog buddies & play ball or disc with my person. My foster mom took me in when my family couldn’t care for me anymore. She said she wanted to make sure I found the perfect family that could provide me with the life I deserve. I lived with my first family for about 7 months & my foster mom says I’ve just never been given the chance to experience much outside of the home. She says I need a lot of confidence building & some manners but that I’m such a good boy. That makes my tail wag! I am potty & crate trained. We are working on improving my leash skills as well as holding my sits & downs, and I have excellent recall. I just get so excited to be with my person that it’s hard to sit still. But I sure love working for yummy treats, one of my favorite snacks is carrots.. YUM!  Foster mom says I could be a fun sport dog, if someone would help me build my confidence. I started going to disc club with my foster family, so many things I’ve never seen or heard, it’s kind of scary.  It is also fun though, I am so fast, and can jump very high to catch the disc! Mom thinks with practice, I can be really good! I sure hope someone wants to make me a loving member of their family. I have so much love to give & I just can’t wait to meet my perfect people, might that be you? Complete an application to adopt me! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and then complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.   Hi friends, and hopefully new family! I’m Dunkin’ (you know, like the donuts, cuz I’m so sweet), here to tell you why you NEED me in your family. I’m 4 yrs old, and a big boy at 57#.  Someone threw me away once, but now I’m with these nice people, my foster parents.  They told me I’ll never be thrown away again, and someone will love and cherish me forever.  Maybe that could be you.  Foster mom and dad say I’m affectionate, enthusiastic, and playful. (Check out my video of me giving dad a high five when he did something good). I learn fast and would LOVE to take some classes and learn more stuff. I have a lot of energy, because I wasn’t treated very well before, and now I’ve discovered life is so fun!  I love humans and dogs, especially when they play with me.  I used to live with cats in my previous home.  I don’t remember ever having toys before, so I haven’t been too interested in them yet. Did I mention I love playing?  I do have an off switch though and will settle down when playtime is over. I’m pretty strong and get excited when I see squirrels or small furries, like bunnies, on walks.  I pull pretty hard on my leash when that happens, so need some work there. Sometimes I bark at people I don’t know when I see them on a walk, so I need some reassurance from you that I don’t need to be scared. (I don’t bark at anyone when I’m not on my leash).  Here is my wish list for my forever family: - Another playful dog in my home - A fenced yard (remember my squirrel problem?) - People who will both play and cuddle with me - Car rides - A family who enjoys being followed to the kitchen, the yard, the bedroom, and the bathroom.  Foster mom said something about Velcro. - Long walks - Food - Couch - Love Other things about me that you may want to know: - I love food.  I’ll work hard for food. I can learn anything, all I need is food and human attention! - I’ve just started jogging with my foster mom and dad.  Boy is that fun!  I’d love to be a running partner. - I’m fully housetrained. - I’ll go in my crate, but it’s not my favorite thing. I bark at first but am getting better as I learn I can trust my people are really coming back. - I don’t know anything about small humans because I haven’t met any.  But I get pretty excited and occasionally jump up, so older (bigger) kids would be best. - I’m neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm, flea and tick preventatives.  I’ll need to stay on those in my forever home, too. - I’m being fostered in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro. If you agree I’m as great as foster mom and dad think I am, please fill out an application so we can see if we might be a perfect match! Love and snuggles, Dunkin’Click here to watch a video of Dunkin.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 6, 2023, 9:56 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and then complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.   Meet Suzi, a charming 2-year-old black and white Border Collie mix, weighing around 40 lbs. She's a true people lover, always ready for affection and cuddles. Suzi enjoys a variety of things and activities such as playing tug, soft squeaky toys, going on walks, frozen peanut butter filled kongs, hard chews, licky mats, snuffle mats, dog puzzles, soft foam dog beds (and maybe a fuzzy one for her head), belly rubs, and giving kisses. She's potty trained and is gradually warming up to her kennel, though she'd rather be by your side. Suzi has a bit of a prey drive, so she's not suited for homes with small animals. She's selective with other dogs, making her a good fit as an only dog or with a submissive dog companion. She's actively learning commands and tricks (sit, lie down, come, wait, here, get it, give it, leave it, place, here, spin, twirl, touch, hide, roll over, crawl and catch) and is eager to please for treats or toys. Suzi is intelligent, inquisitive, and knows when to relax. If you're seeking a Border Collie's intelligence, beauty, and loyalty without the high energy, Suzi is your ideal match. She requires a fenced yard and someone knowledgeable about her breed. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Suzi is currently in foster care in Manhattan, KS.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 6, 2023, 9:56 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and then complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.   See Puffin's updated bio!Puffin is one of 6 puppies that were left in a box along a creek in rural Oklahoma in July 2023.  They were taken to the pound but kept outside.  Once with MoKan , they were placed in foster homes and have thrived beautifully!  As of Nov. 1,  3 of the puppies have been adopted and have adjusted well in their new homes.  There are 3 more still waiting for that perfect home.  I want to tell you about Puffin who I’ve been fostering since July.  Puffin is learning all the things that will make his transition into his future home easier for him and easier for his adopter.  Crating:  Puffin knows crate and voluntarily goes into his crate every night.  He is content with his hard bone that has peanut butter in it.  He sleeps all night and his crate is clean in the morning.  Puffin is always crated when we are not home.   Puffin also respects a barrier.  He is used to having a baby gate up if small children are over and he is certainly capable of jumping over it BUT, he has never tried.  Housetraining:  Puffin is almost completely housetrained although he is not left unsupervised for more than a few minutes.  He will walk to the door when he has to potty and he always potties almost immediately when he goes outside.  He will also potty on leash walks. Leash walks:  Puffin goes on 2 one mile leash walks in our neighborhood every day.  He sees other dogs behind invisible and physical fences.  He is used to seeing squirrel and deer and children on bikes and skateboards and cars going by.   Puffin is a herder and he would love to run after the kids and the wildlife but he is becoming more controlled with each walk we take.  I intentionally let Puffin play hard before we go on walks.  Leash walks alone will not be enough mental and physical exercise for Puffin (and for most border collies).  Recall:  We have been working hard on Puffin with recall because we do not have a fence.  We use a long leash and treats.  Puffin is smart.  He is independent, but  he is also a people dog, likes treats and loves his home base and his companion dogs.  All of this works to our favor in training Puffin with “come”.   He is responding beautifully with his continued training in this area.   Puffin will need a fence in his adoptive home.  Socializing:  Puffin lives with an active 5 yo male aussie and a 10 yo female bc mix.   The aussie is his mentor and the BC is his disciplinarian.   Puffin would love to have another active dog in his new home.  Puffin started to go to the local dog park at their quieter times for the past 3 weeks.  He needs some work on his entry into the dog park as he tends to get too excited as he goes through the initial gate.  Once inside,  Puffin has gained confidence and skill in meeting other dogs and allowing other dogs to sniff him.  Now , he seeks out other dogs that like to be chased.  Puffin prefers to be the chaser rather than the chasee.  (another herding quality!)  Puffin is friendly to just about every person he meets including small kids.  He interacts regularly with a 15 month old, 2 year old and 4 year old child.   He often has kids stop by to play with him.  Puffin is working on “settle” and “gentle”.  He can get a little too enthusiastic with high energy children.  He has made huge improvements in soft bite and jumping  up though this too is a work in progress.  Puffin was has seen a cat each time we went to the vet hospital and did not show prey drive toward the cat.  I believe that Puffin will do fine with a dog savvy cat.  Commands:  Puffin has been introduced to helpful commands like “sit”, “wait”, “kennel”, “no”, “walk nice”, and “come”.    If you are thinking about Puffin (and I don’t know why you wouldn’t be thinking about Puffin), you need to be smarter than him and that is pretty smart.  As I mentioned,  treats are golden with Puffin.  If you think you might be a good home for Puffin,  complete an application to meet him.  Please know that Puffin needs an active home with owners who love to interact with their dog.  Puffin would not be a good dog for someone who is a couch potato or leads a sedentary life or just has too much happening that can’t involve a dog.   Puffin wants to see the world and he’d like to have a partner to do that with.  He will indeed be someone’s best friend.  It could be YOU! Puffin is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Click here to watch a video of Puffin.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 6, 2023, 9:56 am
