Story
Cassava—“Sava” to those who love her—is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart and then never lets it go. This lovely 3-year-old Border Collie/Basset mix, weighing 34 pounds, is the perfect blend of charm, intelligence, and easygoing companionship.   Sava’s story is one of love and doing the right thing. She was adopted from a local humane society by a young man who adored her, but as life settled in, his long workdays—often 10 to 12 hours at a time—left Sava spending too much time alone. Wanting more for her than he could provide, he searched for help and never gave up until Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in to change the course of her life. Now Sava is ready for her true forever home—and what a gem she is.   She has a beautifully balanced personality: playful when it’s time for fun, but just as happy to relax and cuddle when the day winds down. She enjoys being active and would love regular exercise, but she’s not high-strung or overwhelming. While she’d certainly enjoy having a yard to run in, she’s proven she can adapt to apartment living as long as her physical and mental needs are met. Sava is housebroken and crate trained, and she settles well when crated during longer absences. She’s still polishing her leash skills, but with a little consistency, she’ll be a wonderful walking companion. Like many clever dogs, she has a playful streak—especially when it comes to paper products—so a dog-savvy home setup is always a plus.   When it comes to companionship, Sava checks every box. She’s gentle and loving with children, social and playful with other dogs, and even respectful of cats. Her temperament makes her an easy addition to many types of households.   Sava isn’t just a beautiful dog—she’s the kind of loyal, loving companion who will be by your side through it all, whether you’re out exploring or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home.    If you’ve been searching for a dog who brings together personality, adaptability, and heart, Sava is ready to meet you.   To learn more or request an application, please email: ccrnewengland@gmail.com       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 24, 2026, 10:09 pm

Meet Coco! This handsome Border Collie mix is hoping to be the newest member of your family! While Coco has made a lot of progress & is very loving/sweet with staff, he can be a bit timid & slow to warm up to new people, so he will require any children in the home to be at least 12 or older. Additionally, he will have to meet any other dogs in the home prior to adoption for similar reasons. Lastly, any potential adopter should ready to help Coco work on his socialization & house training. If you would like to meet this lovely gentleman or if you have any questions, please ask our kennel staff & they will be happy to assist!

Story
“Freckles:” 8 week old female border collie lab mix. She is going to be big. She weighs 14lbs already. She is well socialized with people, kids, dogs, and cats. Freckles is the epitome of sugar, spice, and everything nice. She has perfected the art of shooting “puppy dog eyes” at you when she wants something – whether it's snuggles, to go outside, or to let you know that someone has taken her preferred sleeping spot (and that you need to do something about it, pronto). She melts into your arms if you pick her up – which you won’t be able to do easily, for much longer –  but Freckles has a frisky side, too. She loves pouncing on plants (although she loses most flora-related battles), nibbling earlobes, and squeezing into tight spaces looking for trouble.  This sweet girl is most likely a black lab mix of some sort, with soft black hair and even softer white tufts around her neck, on her paws, and the very tip of her tail (because a girls’ outfit isn’t complete without accessories!) She loves playing outdoors, and following her people around for love, play, and attention.

Story
“King Julien, or KJ” 8 week old male border collie lab mix. He is going to be a big boy, currently weighing in at 16 lbs. We got these pups at 3 days old when they were dropped off at animal control doorstep during the snow storm. He is well socialized with people, kids, dogs, and cats (King Julien was named after the character in the movie Madagascar, because when he was a tiny puppy we noticed the markings on his belly looked just like King Julien’s face.)  KJ just wants to be your bro, man. He is adventurous, smart, and brave, but he won’t go too far without looking back to make sure his person is still there. He is quick to let you know if he needs to go outside, or if you haven’t shown him enough love recently. His puppy antics keep everyone laughing, and his big personality will no doubt grow with him, just like he’ll grow into his gigantic paws. KJ has black, wavy fur, with just a hint of white on his nose, and white patches under his chin and on his chest.

These pups are in Norfolk, Virginia too!

Story
“Otis the Adventurer”  Otis is a handsome 3-year-old Aussie mix with a sweet heart and a curious spirit. We know his mom was an Australian Shepherd, and while Dad remains a mystery, Otis definitely inherited the intelligence and loyalty that make this breed so special. At around 45–50 pounds, he’s the perfect medium-sized companion.  Otis is the kind of dog who makes living with a dog easy. He is house trained, well-mannered, and respectful as he lives inside the home—no chewing furniture, stealing food, or getting into trouble. He’s calm for an Aussie, incredibly sweet-natured, and great with kids. He’s the kind of dog who just wants to be part of the family and enjoy life alongside his people. He also gets along very well with other dogs, so he would likely thrive in a home with a canine buddy to share adventures with.  Recently after moving from his previous home, he found himself living without a privacy fenced yard.  Otis does have one little quirk—he’s an explorer at heart. If given the opportunity, he’d happily set off to see what the world has to offer! Because of that adventurous streak, a privacy fenced yard is important to keep him safe while he enjoys his outdoor time.  Currently he gets out of the non-privacy fenced yard and it is dangerous for him.  His family is worried but they cannot afford to do the proper fencing that he needs.  So.....they asked Critter Cavalry Rescue to help them find him a safe and secure home with the inescapable fence.        We are just looking for the home that Otis can thrive in safely.  Otis is a well-mannered dog just looking for a home where he can be loved, included, and kept safe while still enjoying the fresh air and sunshine he loves. In return, you’ll get a loyal, gentle, well-behaved companion who will happily spend his days by your side.  We think he is the best choice for a family not wanting a puppy who is in the chewing and puppy antic stage of life.  If you’re looking for a sweet, easygoing dog with a little adventurous spirit, Otis may be the perfect match.   Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   Tell us where you live, city and state.  We adopt to Tennessee residents, where our rescue is based and we have a transport company that takes adopted dogs to the northeastern region to adopting families almost every weekend.  Please let us know where you live when asking about Otis.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 16, 2026, 9:10 pm

Story
Tink’s story didn’t begin the way any young dog’s should — but we believe her best chapter is still waiting to be written very soon now that she is in the care of Critter Cavalry Rescue.  At just two years old, this striking blue-eyed Australian Shepherd girl has already experienced motherhood and heartbreak. She gave birth to a litter of puppies on Thanksgiving Day, nurturing them with devotion. But by Valentine’s weekend, her own world changed. When her owner suffered a stroke and was hospitalized in ICU, Tink was left confined inside a camper for four long days, alone and unsure. It would be understandable if that experience made her fearful or withdrawn. Instead, Tink emerged gentle, loving, and incredibly devoted to people. Currently weighing 38 pounds (and needing about five more to reach her ideal weight), Tink is a petite Aussie with a soft and gentle temperament and a playful streak. She absolutely adores children and has a naturally sweet, careful way about her. She loves playing fetch, going on walks, and burning off her energy in a securely fenced yard — which is a must for this active, intelligent breed.   Tink is mostly housebroken and simply needs the consistency of a routine. She does well in a crate and walks nicely on leash. We are currently evaluating her with other submissive dogs, as a recent attempt to pair her with a strong alpha female was not a good fit — which is understandable after all she’s been through. She may truly shine as the center of someone’s world. Tink has proven she is resilient. She has proven she is loving. Now she just needs someone who will prove to her that she will never be left behind again. If you feel your home might be the safe and steady future this beautiful girl deserves, please email Critter Cavalry at ccrtennessee@gmail.com and tell us your city and state. Tink is ready to begin again — this time, forever.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 7, 2026, 12:24 pm

Story
Hartman is a strong little pup in every way.  He is a Red Heeler through and through! Found with his Momma Red Heeler on a isolated country backroad in Middle Tennessee, he was part of a litter of 6 pups who were only 3.5 pounds when found..  Probably 4-5 weeks old.  That was Feb. 13th, 2026.  This little family was heartlessly dropped off for reasons the good humans in this world cannot understand.   The good samaritan who found them was kind enough to bring them to the already crowded rural shelter and within 2 days they were in the care of a wonderful Critter Cavalry Rescue foster home who helps with litters like this.  We have determined that perhaps the litter was born around the first of January 2025.  The story behind this throw away pure bred Red Heeler momma and her puppies will never be known but the future of their story will be shaped by Critter Cavalry's efforts to help raise these puppies in foster homes and find the puppies and their momma find perfect Heeler loving homes. This smart, energetic pup loves to be in the middle of the action and has already started showing off his natural herding instincts—he’s been known to help “round up” the kids in the yard.  Gently but with a purpose.  Some parents need the help and welcome it.  Others might not and the puppy can be shown that humans do not need the herding help.  Hartman was named this because he has a beautiful and perfect heart shaped spot on the top of his head.  As of March 6th he is 8 pounds and one day should be only 35 pounds tops.  So cute!  What his foster mom says, is that he would thrive in an active home, especially one with plenty of space to run and explore. A big yard or property where he can have a job would be a dream come true for this clever boy. Heelers are known for their intelligence, and Hartman is no exception—he’s eager to learn and loves to please his people.   After a good play session, Hartman is more than happy to settle in for some couch time and soak up all the affection he can get. He’s a sweet, loyal companion who enjoys being close to his humans. Hartman is currently being fostered with young kids, large dogs, and a cat. He’s done well with everyone so far, though he’s still a little unsure about the cat and may bark. With proper introductions and a dog-savvy cat, we think he’ll adjust just fine. If you’re looking for a handsome pup who is smart, loyal and ready for adventure—and cuddles—Hartman might be your perfect match!  Please contact us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com    We can adopt to Tennessee residents where he is fostered and we also transport to the northeast as well to families outside of Tennessee.  We transport most weekends.  Out of state adoptions will be ready around April 10th.      PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 9, 2026, 6:34 pm
