UPDATE on 10/8/25, Lacy tested positive for heartworm. She will begin treatment, and will benefit from a foster or adoptive home who can provide her with a quiet environment during this treatment. She will need restricted activity and her family would need to coordinate with our vet for her medications and infusion dates. Meet Lacy! Lacy is approximately 6 years old and is thought to be a possible Australian Cattle Dog type mix. Lacy, along with over 80 dogs, was removed from a property in WI before coming to our facility. Unfortunately, Lacy lived in horrendous conditions and will be needing a family who understands her recent trauma and is patient with her during this transition. She is incredibly sweet, OK with being handled, and loves humans, so that's definitely a plus! What she will need help with is basically the dynamics of living as a beloved pet. This could include things like leash walking, car rides, and exploring the outside world. Lacy is obviously used to being housed around other animals, including other dogs and small animals. Because of this, we think she'd likely prefer a home with other animals as she finds comfort being around her housemates here at the shelter. So far, she is doing great in her kennel at the shelter and will likely adjust well in a new home if she has an area she can decompress and resort to if she needs some quiet time. This darling little dog has been through so much already, but she's going to blossom even more once she has a family to call her own who can give her consistency, patience and love. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. Please fill out the following PDF Application and email to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Lacy will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $200.

Story
UPDATE: Their foster mom says they are affectionate, listen to commands well, they don't display resource guarding and are not destructive. While they are a bit verbally reactive to other dogs on leash, they do well around other family members' dogs and basically ignore them when they share space. (Barrier reactivity is incredibly common, especially in the bossy herding breeds). While at the foster family's farm setting, Buck & Jojo were described as the easiest fosters they've ever had! (they were both raised on a farm). While at the foster family's more suburban home, they faced some challenges as the city life was not a setting that these two are used to, but they're adjusting as best they can and learning every day! They're used to being kenneled and do well with that whenever they need structure, or if strangers come into the home and their protective nature kicks in. Original Bio: Let us introduce you to Jojo (brown & white female) and Buck (black and grey male). Jojo & Buck are 10.5 year old Heeler mixes who were surrendered because they got ahold of some chickens. They had lived on the same farm/with the same family since they were 10 weeks old, so understandably, the shelter environment was incredibly confusing for them when they first got here. They lived mostly outdoors, but did come inside the home as well. They're friendly with people and other pets, they simply cannot live where they'd have access to chickens. (and they do seem to have a bit of a workup when they see tiny dogs, which could be their natural prey drive) Both Buck & Jojo are adjusting SO well to the shelter life! They were a bit shy at first, but now they're outgoing, funny and playful! They both keep their kennels clean and wait to potty until they're outside. They love their dog beds, they love going for walks with our volunteers, and they enjoy time outside together. Both are treat motivated and already know basic commands! Both are super spunky and will keep you giggling every day! They have such big personalities and are incredibly affectionate. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. Please fill out the following PDF Application and email to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Their combined adoption fee has been sponsored! They are both fixed and current on vaccines.

Story
We are Cajun and Grit! We came from a local home of too many animals in general. We were kept in the barn or kennel our whole life thus far. We have now come to the shelter and are blossoming! Grit is more brave than I, but I have come a long ways! We both love to go for walks. A few meetings may need to happen as new things are a bit frightening. We would love an active person or family!

Story
My name is Rachel. I was adopted as a puppy, but never socialized the best. I came back to the shelter and have been working hard on meeting new people. I do have the 'stranger danger' bark when in my kennel or behind a gate, but do very well without a barrier present. I love to go for 5-6 miles walks and ride superbly in the car. I would love an active person or family! I may take a few meetings to get comfortable with you, but then you will have the best buddy ever!

Story
Hi, my name is Tucker! I am an 8 year old male. My paperwork lists me as an Australian Shepherd, but my friends at CRHS think I look more like a Cattle Dog/Beagle mix. Whatever I am, I'm 100% adorable! I am current on my vaccines, heartworm tested, microchipped, and soon to be neutered. 3 words that describe me: Affectionate, Playful, Talkative Things staff and volunteers have to say about me: Before I came to CRHS I lived with my previous owner in a truck. Understandably I was very nervous when first arriving, but I've been making great progress every single day and I'm much more comfortable now. With that being said, I still may take some time to get comfortable living in my new forever home. Once I know you I love getting affection and cuddling. I can be very vocal and have a lot to say at times, so I may not be the best apartment dog. Activity level/Energy Level: (1-10): 4/10 Housetraining Status: I have been good at keeping my kennel clean, however it may take some time for me to adjust to the schedule in my new home. I should do well in a home: Given slow and calm introductions I should do well with children of all ages. I should do well with other dogs given proper introductions and time to adjust. My friends at CRHS are unsure how I'd do with cats. My favorite activities are: Despite my age I LOVE playing with toys (especially squeaky toys). I also love getting a lot of affection from my humans. Things I need work on are: basic commands Any special needs: I have a heart murmur. Doggy day out notes: N/A Daycare Status: N/A My adoption fee is: $250 Training Requirement if applicable: N/A *If you are interested in adopting, please start by filling out an application available on our website and email it to us. https://www.couleehumane.com/adopt-an-animal
