Story
Doug is a 4-year-old Terrier–Collie mix who’s been a deeply loved family dog for 3 years. Affectionate, smart, and well-trained he knows basic commands, loves to run, hike and adores snuggling. He’s thrived with two teen boys and a cat, is playful and enjoys games of chase, and would do well on a farm or in a multi-pet home. True to his Collie side, Doug has herding instincts and is true to his pack family (humans too) will monitor your yard and chase deer or other unwanted visitors —he needs a secure yard with a 4'+ fence, daily exercise (walks, hikes, runs), and company; he doesn’t do well alone. True to his terrier side, he is a bit anxious will greet you with reckless abandon like you’ve been gone for weeks, he is on daily anxiety and thyroid meds that must be continued to avoid mild seizures from hypothyroidism. Veterinary records will transfer. If you can provide an active, loving home, please welcome Doug into your home. Our hearts are broken but we trust he’ll find his place.

Name: Zeke       Best Guess for Breed:  Cairn terrier mix  Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of July 2026        SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight: 26 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Zeke is Looking For:  What you need to know is that Zeke had a home. He was very much loved. Through no fault of anyone at all, he landed in the shelter. He's been sad and confused, but has done well in pup playgroup and is looking forward to once again having his own humans, to loving and being loved.    At about five years of age he is way out of the puppy yips - he's in his prime as an adult dog and all about walks and world exploration. He'd love to make pup pals along the way! Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs, to be safe and loved.    What do you say? Are you Zeke's next - and final - chapter? Is this small sweetie the one you see by your side?
