He is obsessed and tries to bring them back to his kennel from our outdoor pens. Oatmeal is a bit nervous when meeting other dogs but he would do well with another dog with some time to figure out they're his friend! He is playful and has a great smile. He loves treats too. He can be strong on a leash so will need continued work on leash manners. Oatmeal has been working on basic training and has come so far! He has been working on leash manners and once he knows you are committed to him listening to commands, he walks so well! He plays well, he loves attention, and is a quick learner. Story
Athos needs a special champion. He was born here at the shelter a little over 2 years ago and has been adopted and returned twice since then. Each experience carries its scars and unfortunately, Athos's scars will take commitment to overcome. There are many things that make him good, lovable, and even ideal in many ways: he rides well in the car, loves to play ball with people, doesn't beg for human food or get on the furniture without permission. He listens well on walks, even when he notices a squirrel he'd probably like to chase. He likes to people watch out the window and gives kisses when he's feeling cuddly and affectionate. However, something has happened to Athos that prompts him to react true to the expectations of his breed when triggered, and he will need the work of a strong handler who understands the Belgian Malinois makeup. They are instinctively protective and benefit highly from early socialization, and it is evident that Athos did not receive that. Athos has completed a board and train program with a trainer specialized in his breed, but that doesn't override his instincts in the moment when he is startled. For example, Athos has fallen asleep comfortably on the couch with a trusted person, only to be startled awake when an unexpected family member entered the room. Hackles were up, teeth were shown, and growls were heard as his instinct told him he was protecting his person from an intruder. Once he realized he recognized the visitor, he was fine and calmed down but it is in those moments Athos can be menacing. People with hoods up (like sweatshirts or coats) spark the same kind of fearful reaction. Because of his lineage, combined with the unsteadiness of a life in and out of the shelter system, Athos will only be considered for adult-only homes with a history of dog experience, preferably with the Malinois or GSD breed. He is gorgeous, smart, and affectionate with the people he knows, so the person with the right experience who can help him work through his reactions when startled will have an amazing dog for life. If you are interested in Athos and would qualify, please give us a call and a manager will discuss him with you further. Story
Moodonna is really enjoying her time in her foster home, but this sweet girl is ready to be adopted!Moo's foster mom says: "Her favorite things to do are to creep on the neighbors, watch the neighborhood critters, or pass out on the hot concrete. As far as the outdoors goes, we have her on a tether whether she is in the front or back yard. I'm a helicopter pup parent so I'm always out with her. She very quickly learned that when I say "careful" she is close to the end of her tether so she can slow down.Moo gets so excited she jumps on people impulsively still, but listens as soon as you say "off". She gets the zoomies often some days, especially when she is seeing the boys or my partner after they've been gone/busy for a few days. When she is inside, no potty accidents, no getting into things she isn't supposed to. After slowly testing her, we now are more than comfortable with leaving her to roam the house freely when we are out. Moo prefers the days where I work from home or my partner is working on the truck outside. You guys must have done some amazing work with this girl! Thank you!Moodonna is 5-years-old and weighs 48 lbs!Adoption Fee: $100Estimated Date of Birth: 12/1/18Intake Reason: Transferred in from animal control with mom and littermatesAnimal will be spayed and up to date on vaccines, and microchipped prior to adoption.
