Story

Obi was rescued from a flea market in Texas. He is a shy but a very loving dog. He just wants to play and be present with everything going on. He broke his leg at a few months old (before I received him). He is healed but still has a scar. He rarely barks, only when looking to get someone’s attention to play with him. He can be shy around other dogs at first but once they become buddies he has the best of time. He plays with the local neighbor cat and recognizes boundaries. He rarely communicates his needs so just need to be mindful of certain patterns. Like pacing usual means he needs a potty break. Going into a different room when you are in one room means he is likely hungry or thirsty. He loves to roll around on his back. A truly wonderful dog that I wish I did not have to rehome but circumstances have required it. Looking for a home that can offer a lot of love!

Clawdeen is a 2-year-old Boxer mix with a sweet, gentle spirit and the softest eyes you’ll ever see. She may be new to the shelter, but she’s already winning hearts with her calm nature and eagerness to please. This smart girl knows how to sit and give paw, and she loves showing off her manners. We’re still getting to know her, but so far Clawdeen seems to be dog reactive, so she may do best as the only dog in the home while she continues to build confidence. One thing we do know? Clawdeen is a kind-hearted pup who just wants someone to love her back.

Meet Claressa! This incredibly sweet 3-year-old Boxer is looking for the forever home she deserves. When Claressa first arrived at the shelter, she was in rough shape. Her allergies had gone untreated for some time, and she was significantly underweight. Since treatment, we’ve been so happy to see her make incredible progress. She’s gained weight, her skin has improved, and most importantly, she’s feeling SO much better! Because of her allergies, there is a chance Claressa may need to remain on Apoquel long-term. Her future family should be prepared to continue working with their veterinarian to keep her comfortable and healthy. Personality-wise, Claressa is an absolute sweetheart. She is incredibly affectionate with people and LOVES to snuggle, whether that means curling up next to you or getting cozy in her bed surrounded by blankets. And now that she’s feeling better, we’ve gotten to see her goofy, playful side come out, too! It’s been so rewarding watching her personality shine as she’s gotten healthier. We haven’t had the opportunity to test Claressa with other dogs yet, so we’re not sure how she feels about canine friends at this time. Claressa has already overcome so much. Now, she’s hoping the next chapter of her story is finding a family who will love her, care for her, and give her the happy life she’s been waiting for. Could Claressa be your girl?

You've not seen true happiness until you've met 🧡🤍Gary🤍🧡 MHS followers, let us tell you...he is 43 pounds of sunshine, butterflies, rainbows, and joy. The only thing that could dull his spirit is not finding his family. He is true cheerfulness and delight🥹 Endless wiggles, nonstop smiles and the most endearing personality are all different aspects that comprise Gary. He's a food-motivated pup and is sure willing to work for treatos! We are teaching Gary how to sit and he is totally catching on already! One of the many awesome things about Gary is his eagerness to please. This guy would work for love alone🤎🤎 We have yet to meet anyone that Gary doesn't get along with. He has shown very positive behavior around shelter dogs and he adores people. He also redirected naturally when he saw the cats. With a dog-friendly kitty, Gary may do well with a proper introduction! Kiddos should be sturdy, about 10ish and older, as Gary is still learning polite manners but we think he'd be a lovely furbrother to them🐾🐾 Gary would love to find an adopter who will continue to teach him polite, good-boy manners. We have seen Gary start to shine and know he will only shine brighter with the right leader. He is about two years old and he is neutered🧡🤍🧡

Dilbert was brought to us as a stray in mid-September. He was severely underweight, had open wounds and raw pressure sores. (See his "Before" pictures in the comments.) Even through feeling miserable, Dilbert loved us and those around him. However, he was still in desperate need of our help❤️‍🩹 Luckily, our vet team is amazing and we had one of our wonderful foster homes willing to help him. Here is "All About Dilbert" from his foster mom: "Dilbert has had a pretty rough start. It’s been so nice to see him slowly add weight back on and start to feel like a playful, happy dog should! Over the weeks we’ve worked on a few manners and he is very treat-motivated so he’s been catching on pretty quickly. Dilbert knows how to sit, shake, wait, take nicely, get down/off (he’s kinda nosey with kitchen counters as his sniffer gets working), and we’ve been working on here/come, stay, and leave it. He’s very smart and very willing to learn. Dilbert loves all kinds of treats and will do just about any trick to get one! Dilbert has been slow to come out of his shell and he is somewhat nervous meeting new people. Anyone interested in adopting this handsome guy should be willing to offer him patience. After all, he has been through a lot. It may take more than one meeting for him to warm up. But once he does, he’s goes all in! Dilbert loves to be near you, on you, right up next to you, and will regularly take your favorite spot on the couch or steal your pillow. He’s learning that toys are fun—rope toys and thinner crinkle/squeaky toys are his favorites so far. Dilbert also has an ornery side. He’s head-strong and relatively funny when he doesn’t want to do what you want him to do. He’s goofy, bouncy, and an incredibly fast runner. He has gotten along well with our resident cat and has done well with other friendly dogs. Dilbert has a heart of gold, pushes every inch of personal space boundary you may have, and will make you laugh even as he’s chewed apart your 5th phone charging cord.
