Story
Rocco came to us from Up North where he had been living in a homeless encampment and somehow ended up in impound scheduled for euthanasia when one of our partners rescued him. He is the sweetest boxer/pug? mix you will ever want to meet. Born October 2023 he is a lover of all people he meets, but is best if his new home is cat-free. He has been around other dogs, rides perfectly in a vehicle and is simply a joy to know. He is dreaming of a new Home for the Holdays! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Quest was surrendered to the shelter on 5/9/2025 due to rental restrictions. He is 4 years old and was a very loved dog who had lived in his home his whole life. His owners were forced to relocate and couldn't find an affordable place that would accept dogs like him. Quest is a mix of boxer, Doberman, and pit bull, and he is big and strong. He has been fully vetted and microchipped and his fee is $150. Quest did live with his canine sibling in his home and was fine. They grew up together. We do think that he'd prefer to be the only dog in a home right now. No smaller animals for this moose. He's looking for an adult only home. Teens are fine. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 21, 2025, 9:13 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Stuart is little, but he is not Stuart Little. As of November 20th, he is about 25 lbs and thought to be around 7 months old. Stuart spent the first months of his life in a puppy mill. Being a puppy mill dog, there's certain things he doesn't know yet, like where he's supposed to go to the bathroom and why all the people and dogs in his foster home move around so much. The kennel is something he is not a big fan of, but he tolerates it. His ideal life probably wouldn't involve a kennel very often. Stuart would LOVE to see kennel time replaced with time being held by a human. He loves being held and carried like a baby. Stu is not neutered yet but will be in a couple of weeks. He may need some dental cleaning done as well, as unbelievably his adult teeth already have excessive tartar. No doubt that's a consequence of the puppy mill life. He's got a big personality and we see glimpses of it sometimes. Every day something new comes out, no doubt this will continue as he becomes more comfortable with the good life. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Bree is a 10-year-old, female, pure bred Boxer. She is in the process of learning how to be a dog. She was rescued from a puppy mill and had never been out of a cage, so everything was new to her: grass, stairs, carpet, couch, house, etc. However, Bree is loving her new freedom and is making great strides every day. She loves other dogs, cats, people, and Pup cups! Bree is very smart and loving. She is almost fully potty trained and learned in only 2 weeks. Bree is scared of outside noises, such as cars going by on the road, so we haven't taken her for a walk down the road yet. She walks fine around our yard on a leash, but if there's a loud noise, she will try to hide. Bree is a sweet heart who is loving her new life.                Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 29, 2025, 1:33 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Joy Galbrecht (Joyous198@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Willow is a sweet girl that is learning how to be a dog.  She is very friendly but still a little skittish.  Loud noises and unfamiliar items startle her.  She knows how to use the doggy door at her foster home and prefers to go outside with the other dogs rather than by herself. She gets along with all dogs of all sizes and will benefit from being in a home with other dogs that will show her the ropes and help her be the confident girl she deserves to be.  She doesn't pay any attention to the cats in her foster home. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 30, 2025, 8:24 am

Story
Hercules is a sweet enthusiastic boy born in April 2021. He was brought in as a stray and was never claimed. We can't figure out why - he is a real charmer. He needs some work slowing down when he is on a leash - he is so eager to go everywhere. Hercules would do best in a home where he is the only animal. He would make a great companion for someone looking for a dog with energy and personality plus. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. Story
Dillon was found running down Margaretha with a leash still attached, but nobody came for him. He is a beautiful brindle boy with lots of muscle and a big beautiful head. Dillon should be an only animal. Older kids with dog experience would be ok. He is a happy sweet boy. He prefers women and is nervous around men and loud noises. A gal with a quiet home would be Dillon's choice for his next human. He loves car rides and loves to snuggle. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped.
