Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Quest was surrendered to the shelter on 5/9/2025 due to rental restrictions. He is 4 to 5 years old and was a very loved dog who had lived in his home his whole life. His owners were forced to relocate and couldn't find an affordable place that would accept dogs like him. Quest is a mix of boxer, Doberman, and pit bull, and he is big and strong. He has been fully vetted and microchipped. His fee of $150 is fully sponsored. Quest did live with his canine sibling in his home and was fine. They grew up together. We do think that he'd be okay with a mellow female dog of similar size. No smaller animals. He would do best in an adult only home. Teens are okay.  Shelter life has been hard on our Quest and he has lost a significant amount of weight. We've had him completely vet checked and this weight loss is due to the stress of the shelter environment. He would make a very loving and loyal companion. He needs a home! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 19, 2026, 1:41 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ares arrived on 6/17/2025 as a transfer from one of our rescue friends. He's a big, handsome, stocky dude with a large capacity to have fun. He's around 6 years old and appears to be a shepherd mix of some type. There could be quite a few breeds in there. He has been fully vetted and his fee is $125. Ares is a large, strong guy who would prefer to be the only pet in the home. He's is pretty well mannered. He would love to be with someone who can give him the good exercise he needs. He's also pretty content to chill out on a couch with someone after playtime. He loves to play and is a big fan of playing tug with a strong rope toy. He's also very neat and keeps his kennel spotless. He's fairly easy going and doesn't demand a lot.   NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
Meet Toby! Toby is a charming Boxer mix (our best guess!) who came to us from the southern U.S. with a shy and timid nature. At about 3, he’s learning to embrace his new surroundings with curiosity and a gentle heart. While it takes Toby some time to warm up, once he gains your trust, he’s a loyal and friendly companion. Toby isn’t one for big adventures, but he loves simple joys like chewing on bones and enjoying tasty treats. He would thrive in a calm, patient home where he can continue building his confidence at his own pace. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-key pup to share your life with, Toby might be the perfect match!

Story
Hey there, I'm Bruno! I'm a brindle Boxer-Terrier mix with a stunning coat and endless energy to match born in October 2025. Already neutered and ready to go, I'm an affectionate and playful pup who loves making new friends — I'm loyal, friendly, and always up for an adventure! Come meet me and let's see if we're a perfect match for each other! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Boxer/Boston Mix | Senior | Professional Napper Dani is the ultimate comeback kid. She came to us after a really tough road—malnourished and recently a mom—but her spirit is completely untouched. She is a tiny, happy, independent soul who is just genuinely thrilled to be here. The Vibe Dani has the senior lifestyle down to a science. She still has plenty of "let’s go!" energy and playful zoomies, but she’s also a pro at taking long naps. She’s an absolute superstar in her kennel, too—totally chill overnight or while you’re away. The "Lunge-Nibble" Dani is a "full-contact" lover! Because she’s small and gets so excited to see her people, she tends to launch herself forward for what we call "lunge-nibbles." There’s zero bad intent behind it; she’s just a tiny ball of enthusiasm who doesn't quite have an "off" switch for her kisses. To keep everyone happy, she’d be best in a home without small children. Health Update When she first arrived, her eyes were very cloudy from her past, but they are clearing up beautifully now that she’s getting the nutrition she needs. She navigates the world with confidence and is ready for her next chapter. Dani’s Wishlist: A home with adults or older kids. Someone who loves a dog with a bit of an independent streak. A comfy couch for her frequent naps. Dani has been through so much and is officially ready for the pampered retirement she deserves. Could your home be her forever spot?Click here to watch a video of Daniela.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 13, 2026, 9:14 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Miss Sammy. I was a sidekick for a truck driver since I was 6 weeks old. Then I could not easily get in the truck and my dad's new company said I could not ride with him any longer. The transition has been confusing to me after I made a long road trip from Ohio to MN where I met my foster family. I would bark at the door and outside. My foster mom thinks I was hoping my family would hear and find me. But I have lots of love in my heart and have opened it up to my foster family. I follow my foster Mom around like a Velcro dog. My favorite pastime is when the kids play with me. They squeak my toys and crinkle the paper inside. I get so excited when they do this. Sometimes I even bark at them to ask them to play. I have a white face but don't let that fool you. I still have bursts of energy. My foster kiddo discovered I fetch the ball one day. I love to bring it back. But when the foster dog jumped in front of me and grabbed the ball I got pretty upset. He is bigger than me so I feel like I have to let him know who is boss. It would not be a good idea to play fetch with another dog present. I growl at him through the baby gate when we eat our food so I food guard, as well. Otherwise, I am chill around him and we get along. I am 60-65lbs and I look so tiny. But I am pretty solid. I have not asked to jump on the couch, but I did whine a little to get on the bed. However, I am fine sleeping on my dog pillow next to my foster parents' bed. I fuss a little bit when put in the kennel, but then I calm down and nap. I do not pull on a leash. I do bark at other dogs. When I am riding in the car, I bark at anything that moves. My foster mom does not know if I am doing it out of anxiety from the move or if this is typical of me. But I am an all-around great dog. I am trained and my foster mom says I am easy to have around. If you have stairs in your home my foster mom wants you to know I am a little slow going up steps, but the vet did not find arthritis. He did say I need to lose 5lbs, otherwise, I am healthy. He said with my cute personality I will go fast. If you are looking for a pretrained smart, playful, but also calm companion I am the one for you. I will melt your heart with my soulful gaze, when I am trying to tell you something. And I am pretty vocal once I know you. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Gordon was born in the Ukraine and lived there until his family moved to the United States 2 years ago. Now his family has to move back and the stress of long distance international travel would be too much on the Gordon. So his family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him to rescue. Gordon held several championship show titles in the Ukraine. He is absolutely beautiful! Gordon knows Russian but is quickly catching onto English commands. He also knows hand signal commands. He is a very smart and quick learner. Gordon just loves to relax, take naps, get butt scratches and go for walks. He is good with larger animals but tends to chase smaller animals.   Click here to watch a video of Gordon.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 13, 2026, 9:14 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Darlene Mannino for more information about this pet.Poppy update!   My name is Poppy. I was returned after 6 years with my last home. I was not so friendly with my foster sisters when I got here. I finally got use to being around other dogs and am learning to be part of a pack. I'm gonna need a strong alpha parent to help me to continue to grow out of my shell. I've never been around other puppers. I'm potty trained and have never had an accident in the house. I like to eat by myself and I may take all day to eat my food. I'm a lovey dove and love to be loved on. I try to be bossy and need reminding that I don't have to be bossy. I will follow you around anywhere you go.   Her DNA test results: 66% Boxer 14% German Shepherd 14% Chow Chow 6% Labrador Retriever  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 10, 2026, 5:12 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rocky came to the shelter from the city pound in September 2025 when his time was up and no one had claimed him. We do know a little about his history and know that he's over a year old and Rocky is his real name. He's a little shy at first but warms up quickly and is loving and playful. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped and his fee is $150.  Rocky is a young dog who has had a little basic training. He needs a home that can provide him with the exercise he requires. He did live with kids in his previous home. We do think he could do okay with a female dog with proper intros. We have no way of knowing about cats. He really is a honey! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Maura arrived at the shelter from the city pound on 6/5/2026, when her stray hold was finished and no one had claimed her. She seems to be no older than a year, possibly a bit younger, and she is a pit bull type mix who is on the smaller side. We're not sure what else could be in her breed mix. She has been vet checked and spayed and her fee is $150. Maura is a little bit shy at first but warms up quickly and becomes playful and very loving. She will need some basic training as she still has quite a bit of puppy behavior in her. We do think she'd be okay with other dogs and kids. She's young enough, too, to learn to behave around cats. She is truly one of the sweetest dogs ever and would thrive as someone's companion! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Greer originally arrived at the shelter from the city pound on November 6th, 2025. She is a pint-sized pit bull type gal, who is short and stocky. Greer is strong and active and is an absolute honey. A little over a month after she came in, Greer was adopted, but the people decided she just wasn't the best fit for their household and made the hard decision to return her after 5 months on 5/9/2026. She has been spayed and microchipped and her fee is $150.  Greer's adopters loved her very much and put her through professional obedience training. She really would love a home in which she is not left alone for long hours. She has done okay with some well mannered male dogs. She does bond very closely to her people. She will need regular exercise and loves to have space to romp and play. She would do best in a home without cats. Kids over 10 should be okay.
