Story
Hercules is a sweet enthusiastic boy born in April 2021. He was brought in as a stray and was never claimed. We can't figure out why - he is a real charmer. He needs some work slowing down when he is on a leash - he is so eager to go everywhere. Hercules would do best in a home where he is the only animal. He would make a great companion for someone looking for a dog with energy and personality plus. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Dillon was found running down Margaretha with a leash still attached, but nobody came for him. He is a beautiful brindle boy with lots of muscle and a big beautiful head. Dillon should be an only animal. Older kids with dog experience would be ok. He is a happy sweet boy. He prefers women and is nervous around men and loud noises. A gal with a quiet home would be Dillon's choice for his next human. He loves car rides and loves to snuggle. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rocky came to the shelter from the city pound when his time was up and no one had claimed him. We do know a little about his history and know that he's around a year old and Rocky is his real name. He's a little shy at first but warms up quickly and is loving and playful. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped and his fee is $150.  Rocky is a young dog who has had a little basic training. He needs a home that can provide him with the exercise he requires. He did live with kids in his previous home. We do think he could do okay with a female dog with proper intros. We have no way of knowing about cats. He really is a honey! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 5, 2025, 9:28 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sasha is a 2-3 year old pit bull type gal who came to us as an owner surrender due to rental issues. She is compact and muscular, and almost panther like. Sasha is a nice girl who has had some basic training. She has been vet checked and spayed and her fee is $150. Sasha will require regular exercise as she is young, strong, and energetic. We do think she would do okay with a well-mannered MALE dog. She also lived with cats and kids. She enjoys attention and walks. She would prefer a home in which she is not left alone for long hours. She's a gorgeous princess!  NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowen came to us on 4/23/2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a reservation in South Dakota. He has always been a volunteer favorite! He was adopted in May, 2025 and returned recently. Unfortunately, he bonded very quickly and closely to the woman of the home and became very protective of her. She invested a lot of time and money in professional training but Rowen just would not accept her husband or other visitors coming into the home. It was a very difficult decision, but she had no choice but to return him to us. Rowen's adoption fee of $125 is sponsored. We're not giving up on Rowen as we do believe that his perfect fit is out there, somewhere. He has had basic training and enjoys a good, brisk walk and playing fetch. He's looking for an adult only home without a lot of foot traffic. He needs someone who is willing and able to provide him with the exercise he needs, along with consistent training and boundaries. He is strong and active. He's a happy and outgoing dog with a slight mischievous streak that is kinda endearing. He needs to be the only pet in the home. He will require regular exercise to keep him happy and well balanced. Secure fenced yard required. Watch a TikTok video featuring Rowen below! https://www.tiktok.com/@happy.critter.ranch/video/7204912518278565163 NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Teddy came to us as an owner surrender due to rental restrictions. He's an approximately 5 to 6 month old pit bull/lab mix puppy. He currently weighs around 25 pounds. Teddy does look like he'll be a pretty large dog at maturity. He has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped and his adoption fee is $150. Teddy will require basic training in all areas as he is a puppy. He'd do best in a home in which he's not left alone for long hours. He's a fun loving pup with a lot of eagerness to please. He loves to play! We do think he'd do okay with another dog and is young enough to learn to interact well with cats. Kids over 5 would be best. He's a smart pup with a lot of potential! Story
Rocco came to us from Up North where he had been living in a homeless encampment and somehow ended up in impound scheduled for euthanasia when one of our partners rescued him. He is the sweetest boxer/pug? mix you will ever want to meet. Born October 2023 he is a lover of all people he meets, but is best if his new home is cat-free. He has been around other dogs, rides perfectly in a vehicle and is simply a joy to know. He is dreaming of a new Home for the Holdays! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped.
