Story
Meet Birch, a 5-year-old male Pit Bull mix.Birch got his name because he was dumped at the shelter location on Birchfield rd. When staff was out feeding the feral lot cats, Birch limped right up for pets. He didn't seem to mind the cats and showed zero interest. Once Birch got some attention he followed shelter staff straight in the back door. Birch is a very handsome boy with a solid 65 pound build. His history is unknown but he is limping and has a scar on one leg too. Birch has a good body condition so was eating regular meals prior to his abandonment. He is looking for a forever home with a nice yard and a comfy dog bed. This pet is available for adoption on 10/19/23 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.

This guy was brought to us by City of Yakima animal control as he was making his way around town. He is a very strong guy and has absolutely no problem showing you his muscles either. He is not the biggest fan of the leash though and will probably try to figure out whether or not he can chew on it or not. Story
Meet Jax, a 2-year-old male Pit Bull mix.Jax is a super handsome young boy. He was found as a stray and the finder is continue to foster him while YHS finds him a furever home. Jax loves people and has an active and adventurous spirit. He is playful with other dogs but does best when they are playful like him. He has lived with cats in his foster home with no issue. Due to his size and energy level it is best that Jax find a home with no small children. Jax doesn't like to be kenneled and doesn't like barriers, he wants to be with his people when possible. Please do your breed research before adopting a Terrier mix. They can be a bit stubborn at times and need lots of physical and mental stimulus to keep them happy. Terrier mixes can be strong-willed and need an equally determined person to keep them in line. Terriers are fun, athletic and smart. Many people have fallen in love with them over the years, but it is important to keep their breed needs in mind if you are considering adding one to your household. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. Coco was found in the fields by a neighbor and brought to us in July. She has been a sweetheart. She is kennel trained. Her one red flag is that she's a climber, so she'll need a tall fence, to be leashed, or always supervised. The only kids she's been tested on are the teen volunteers who she is great with. She is playful, loves toys, enjoys music, and very cuddly.
