We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 dog/cat that you are interested in.-Attach a copy of proof of home ownership (i.e. tax bill, deed, or mortgage payment – you can black out the account #, etc.) or animal clause/agreement of your rental agreement. This must be in a .jpeg format. If you are unable to send in this format, please be prepared to provide this documentation in another way prior to adoption.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other dogs/cats. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Carl! This 1.5 year-old mixed breed boy is ready to make you swoon! Weighing in around 52 pounds, Carl's charismatic personality has everyone falling for him and we know you will too! Carl is a pup that knows how to have a good time! He loves cruising the yard with a variety of toys and makes sure to save some time for rolling in the grass. He knows "sit" and is capable of learning much more. Handsome as they come, Carl was a perfect pup for his photo shoot. Carl is a fun-loving guy who will need a yard to run in and a family that will continue his training/enrichment. Proving he also has a sensitive side, Carl appreciates his snuggle time and will lean in for a nice facial massage after a few minutes of playtime is over. He's also great on a leash and would make an excellent walking buddy for some lucky person. Based on our evaluations, Carl will do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. We feel he has the potential to live with other dogs of a similar energy level. We'd be happy to set up a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If Carl seems like your kind of pup, don't wait! Head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and fill out an application for this dapper dude!

Story
Description of the Pet This is Bonnie! 3 years old. Bull Terrior Pitbull mix. Fantastic in the home. No accidents. No need to be crated, even though she has a crate if prefers to go in! Minimal barker ! Barks when she hears another dog bark. Walks phenomenal on a leash. Loves toys of all kinds. Never destroys them either but prefers to sleep with them all. She is microchipped. Up to date on current vaccines and spayed. She is dog selective as lived alone outside for her three young years . She would prefer a home to herself where she can get all the attention. She loves people. Kids over the age of ten as toddlers scare her and she gets very anxious when they are around . She did test positive sadly for Heartworm. She has started her treatment and ALL vetting to continue treatment is paid for. She is a calm girl who just lays around yet loves being pet to the point you will get tired !!
