If you are interested in adopting from Sterling Animal Shelter, please submit an application through our "Pets for Adoption" page.  We are currently open by appointment only Tuesday through Friday, and have Open Hours on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.  Our appointments are scheduled by matching our applications to our available pets. If your application is chosen, our staff will contact you to set an appointment for a meet and greet to spend some time with the animal one-on-one. We do still have same day adoptions, and if your meet is successful, you can take your pet home at the time of your appointment.  To find the best match for each pet, we prefer to have the entire family present when doing an adoption. If you have a dog at home already, please be prepared to bring your resident dog to meet a potential new dog, to ensure all parties get along. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. My sweet Kiya is up for Rehoming, she is a spayed female Calico, 2 yrs old house trained. She will not use her litter box unless I’m not home she wants to go outside to do her business. Is due for vet exam in June. She is an excellent mouser. Gets a long with older kids, hasn’t been around dogs or other cats. She’s a companion cat for someone loving and is basically a loner. If someone takes the time to introduce her to other cats in time she might take to them but I don’t think she would do well with dogs. All her belongings go with her. She is vet chipped. Boo was found on the side of the road with his litter mates in September. We bought him home thinking he would be a great addition to our family. Boo is very affectionate with all humans and loves to play with toys. He will even hid treasure for later. Sadly though our senior dog does not feel the same about Boo. Several times a week we are experiencing dust ups between the two for them. Several times resulting with our dog having his mouth around Boo's neck and once with our dog with a scratch on his eye. We have tried for six months to find a way for the two of them to get along. Sadly we have made the heartbreaking decision to re-home Boo and keep our senior dog.

Stitch is a gorgeous, mellow, loving, friendly gray tabby who was surrendered by his owners because they had to find new housing and weren't able to find a place that accepted pets. He is shy right now and seems sad about losing his owners, who loved him very much. However, his owners reported that he was very playful, affectionate, and friendly in his home, and we are confident that he will be that once again in a new loving home. Stitch's BFF is his brother, Simba, another gorgeous and friendly tabby. They must be adopted together. Stitch and Simba both lived with kids in their last home and the owners reported that they loved the kids and loved to play.

Milo came in as a surrender , owner couldn't keep him due to housing . Milo is very shy , he loves pets and scratches . Milo just wants to be loved and feel wanted. It may take a little time for milo to build trust, but can you blame him. He is very sweet , looking for his forever family
