Story
Pippin's Story Pippin is a 6-month-old buff and white baby girl who has truly blossomed in her foster home. Once a bit unsure, she’s now showing her sweet, playful, and affectionate side in a calm and comfortable environment. This little lady loves pets—especially around her neck and tail base—and she’ll proudly strut around with her tail held high, full of purrs. When she’s feeling extra happy, she’ll even roll over for some gentle belly rubs! Pippin would thrive in a quieter home or a calm space where she can settle in at her own pace. With a little patience, her loving personality shines bright. She gets along well with other cats and would likely do fine with laid-back dogs after a proper introduction. Interested in adopting Pippin? ?Apply here: https://form.jotform.com/223088351047151 Pippin is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, has received parasite prevention, and will be spayed before adoption. All of this is included in the adoption fee. Story
Rusty. (Bobtail)'s Story ?? Rusty the Bobtail Elf-in-Training ?? Introducing Rusty, a nine-week-old orange tabby bobtail kitten who looks like he came straight off Santa’s “experimental elf prototypes” assembly line. With a tiny nub of a tail that wiggles like a festive cinnamon roll, Rusty zooms through the house like he’s late for toy-making duty at the North Pole. He’s convinced he is an elf, actually—just… fun-sized. Here’s what this holiday hooligan brings to the table: ? Santa-level energy (he’s already run three imaginary workshops today) ? Gift unwrapping skills that are both impressive and mildly concerning ? Tree climbing expertise—he says he’s just “checking for squirrels” ? Stocking inspector—he checks every sock. Every. Single. One. ? Believes Christmas dinner is “community property” Rusty may be tiny, but his personality is bigger than Santa’s cookie stash. He is charming, hilarious, wiggly, snuggly, and 100% certain he can pull Santa’s sleigh by himself if the reindeer ever call in sick. If you want a Christmas companion who brings the chaos and the cuddles, look no further—Rusty is ready to jingle all the way home with you. ??? This pet is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, has received parasite prevention, and will be neutered before adoption. All of this is included in the adoption fee. Ready to give this sweet angel the forever home they deserves? Apply here: https://form.jotform.com/223088351047151 If your application is a good fit, a team member will reach out to schedule a Facetime or What’s App meet and greet so you can see this baby’s loving personality in action.

Story
Sneezy is one of a litter of seven kittens who were named after the Seven Dwarves. she is very shy and, while curious and always comes over to her foster parents when they come into the room, tends to shy away from being touched, except when she is sleepy, in which case she loves being pet. She will need an adopter who is patient with her and allows her to feel safe on her own terms. She is very playful and loves toys, especially wand-style toys. She is bonded with her sister, Happy, and feels safer when they are together, so they must be adopted together. The total fee for adopting both is $550.  May 20, 2025, 10:40 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Mackerel came to Dakin when the elderly gentleman she lived with became very ill. Since then she's been parking her paws in foster care, but this gorgeous lady is waiting to make a grand entrance into your home and adding that certain something to your decor! She is shy, calm and pretty quiet, but will meow at times if she wants something. Mackerel likes being able to have her own space, and while she isn't a fan of being petted, she enjoys sitting next to her person. This mature kitty catches her share of z-z-z-z's but still has a playful nature, swatting at wand toys, "hunting" toy mice and enjoying the sweet smell of catnip toys. One of her favorite pastimes is gazing out the window, so she's hoping for a room with a view. This sweet lady would do well in a quiet home with one or two adults who respect her boundaries. Adopting mature cats has perks: no kittens hanging on your drapes or destroying the family heirloom. What you see is what you get when you adopt a mature kitty. Mackerel feels she's enough cat for anybody and would prefer to be your only feline friend. Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. Sassy cats are usually confident, intelligent and active. They often don’t like to be held, or have places on their bodies that they prefer not to be touched. When handled or petted in ways they do not prefer, they are likely to swat, nip or bite. They will be happiest in adult only homes or those with older kids who understand cats that have rules and will leave them alone. If they are bored then they may get into trouble and often need extra playtime in order to be their best selves. Sassy cats will go home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for EVERYONE in the home to be happy. Typically, sassy cats are not for first-time cat owners. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us.
