Story
Meet Velvet! This girl was rescued from total starvation off a chain in someone's back yard. She was nearly 50 pounds lighter than she should've been when we found her, but she eats like a champ and has begun to fill out nicely! Despite coming from such a hard life, Velvet is incredibly sweet and gentle. Her teeth are broken shards, her body is missing large patches of fur and is covered in skin tags and bumps, but she is so beautiful to us. Velvet is a big girl although still underweight, we think she is a mastiff or cane corso mix. She might be around 8 years old, although it's hard to tell since her body is so incredibly wrecked. Overall though she is healthy and has so much love to give some lucky foster or furever family! She is good with other dogs of all sizes and loves kids as well.

Story
Calliope is an extra large girl looking for someone with an extra large heart. Calliope takes a bit of time to warm up, so she's looking for her person or family that will give her that chance. And as large as she is, she really needs to gain some weight and the best place to do that is in a home!Calliope is currently living in a foster home. If you would like to learn more about her or meet her, please email foster@kcpetproject.org.Her ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.Did you know that black dogs are often overlooked in the shelter? They are oftentimes the dogs who stay in shelter care the longest and are chosen last due to appearance. Break the stigma and adopt a black dog today. Remember, black dogs are the best dogs. Their hair doesn't show up on black clothing and their coats don't appear as dirty as they may be. Will you be the lucky owner of a black shelter dog? Come down to KCPP to pick one out!

Story
Hey Siri, can you tell me who's the best girl? Oh wait, it's you! Siri recently came to our shelter after her family was facing a change in lifestyle and could no longer keep her. Her previous owners said she is a total sweetheart with lots of love to share! Siri is reportedly house-trained. She did spend a lot of her time outside, so we are pretty sure she would love nothing more than to curl up on a nice comfy dog bed and snooze the day away! Bring Siri a toy and she is all yours. She loves to play with tennis balls, squeaky toys, and even frisbees! Siri is also one smart girl. She knows "sit", "stay", and "eat". In her past home, Siri had lived with children. Here at the shelter, Siri prefers hanging out with other gentle, easy-going pups during playgroups. Siri is microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on her vaccinations.

These pups are in Spring Hill, Kansas too!

Story
Meet Dino! We rescued this baby along with his 6 other siblings from a closing shelter where they were kept in a muddy outdoor enclosure with nothing but a plastic bin to hide in. Dino's siblings are all short haired, but for some reason he is fluffy! He loves to play with other dogs and is potty trained. We don't know his DNA, but his mom was a short haired Anatolian shepherd mix. These pups will all be very large, possibly 70-80 lbs or more. Pebbles would do best in a home with other dogs where he can continue to socialize and become the best version of himself! His foster says: " He is a great balance of energy and calm. He loves to play with his doggy friends and goof around and have fun, but also has many calm moments where he just wants to snooze! He is a little afraid of new things sometimes, but is so willing to try as long as he knows you or his pup friend is right there with him! He walks wonderful, and loves toys, and of course treats! He is right on his way to being potty trained, and has done a great job at letting me know when he's needing to go! He is such a quick learner! You will not regret opening your home to this little bundle of love and joy. He does need to be in a home with other dogs, as he is his most happy when with his dog friends. He os truly himself around other pups, and in good conscience cannot keep him from that happiness!

Meet Wilma! We rescued this baby along with her 6 other siblings from a closing shelter where they were kept in a muddy outdoor enclosure with nothing but a plastic bin to hide in. Wilma was one of the smallest in her litter and was somewhat bullied by her siblings, so she can be shy around new people. Once you give her a few minutes, she turns into the silly puppy she is. She loves to play with other dogs and is potty trained. We don't know her DNA, but her mom was a short haired Anatolian shepherd mix. These pups will all be very large, possibly 70-80 lbs or more.
