Story
Queenie is a wonderful family dog with a protective nature, so she would do best with someone who understands large/guardian breeds and can continue her structure and training. She’s affectionate, enjoys playtime, and is great around children and other dogs. I am being very selective and want to make sure she goes to a safe, stable, forever home. A rehoming fee will apply to ensure serious inquiries only.

Story
Bane is a cane corso mixed with American bully xl. He was born on July 19 2020. He’s been with us since 6 weeks old. He has been a very good dog to us. Playful and a true gentle giant. He loves to beg for food and chew on his bones. He’s good with other dogs, any sizes and breeds. He’s good with people and kids inside and outside the house. He always excited to see people. We have a 2 year old daughter and he’s good with her but when we’re inside the house we don’t leave them alone. Lately he’s been a little aggressive towards his food (like guarding or growl) but other than that he’s great to us. We don’t have the time and patience to care for him anymore and we’re finding a new home for him.

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Angel is 2yo, weighs 92lbs, is intact (however, her guardian will arrange for spay surgery prior to rehoming), is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Angel's guardian adds:   "Angel knows 'sit', 'down', 'paw', and will wait to eat on command.  She dislikes/fears balloons, vacuums, bikes, and car rides (she's very anxious).  She's permitted free roam of the house during the day except for bedrooms, and she sleeps on her bed or in her crate at night. Angel currently eats Authority Sensitive Stomach + Skin Lamb & Rice Formula.  Angel deserves a stable home with someone that is able to give her attention 24/7 rather than being home and occasionally walked by different dog walkers/house sitters or in boarding places… She’s also not fond of car rides so bringing her is not an option even though I’ve tried.  It hurts but I know she deserves so much better than I can offer her. I’ve went back and forth about it for months now and it’s finally time for me to make the best decision." Angel's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  "Moving in August and starting a job that will require me to travel and be on the road a lot." Angel's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  "Environmental allergies and we help this by wiping her completely down with Pet MD Chlorhexidine Antiseptic Wipes after coming inside from walks or playing, cleaning her crate tray every other date, minimizing dust in the house or collected on her crate, and washing her blankets and beds weekly.  Vets recommend allergy shots; however, we've used the above methods as a cost efficient way to maintain her allergies instead and it works wonders."   Angel's guardian states the following regarding children:  Angel has lived with and lives with young children, ages 3-5, so her guardian recommends her living with children, stating... "Angel is very playful and LOVES attention.  She is a gentle giant with kids of all ages.  She can get overly excited and overestimate her power when kids are excited but she knows to calm down on command.  She grew up with my daughter who was a very curious and hyperactive 3 year old.  She’s never reacted to my daughter pulling her tail, moving her food, taking her toys, or anything. We worked on all of those reactive behaviors since she was a puppy." Angel's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Angel lived with another dog, so her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating "Angel has lived with another dog her age for a short while.  They played very well together after being slowly introduced." Angel's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Angel has never lived with nor otherwise been around cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats. Angel's guardian describes her as: Very active Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Angel's guardian describes her ideal future home: "Angel’s ideal family is one who is very active and lives in a single family home with lots of space for her to roam.  Fenced backyard is a plus but definitely not required.  A family with young / middle aged kids that love to be outside and can play with her is also a plus!  She will get tired and so will they! ;)" Rehoming Fee:  None Location:  Edgewood, MD***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Diesel Coal is of cane corso/lab/pit mix, is 5yo, weighs 77lbs, is neutered, is microchipped, but is not up to date on his vaccines.  Diesel Coal's guardian adds:  "He is such a loving boy who wants only love and to be able to trust in someone who won't hurt him.  He is alone at home 10-12 hours/day, is crated during the day and night, dislikes/fears the vacuum and other dogs, and is active but great during car rides.  I try healthy foods such as Pure Balance at Wal-Mart."   Diesel Coal's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  His guardian recently experienced an abrupt and unexpected housing situation and the premises in which she currently safely/securely lives doesn't offer enough space for his comfort. Diesel Coal's guardian states the following regarding children:  Diesel Coal lives with children (starting at age 6 and up and are currently 13 and 11yo), so his guardian recommends his living with children, stating "Loves to be petted by kids and play games of chase with a ball, not much of a fetcher". Diesel Coal's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Diesel Coal hasn't lived with dogs, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "He will sometimes whine and growl". Diesel Coal's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Diesel Coal lives with a cat, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "He likes our cat, but she doesn't like him..lol..he boops her with his nose, paws her to play or chases her".  Diesel Coal's guardian describes him as: Very active Playful Affectionate Independent Protective House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Diesel Coal's guardian describes his ideal future home:  "Diesel Coal would best go to a family who will love him unconditionally be patient and able to train him better.  Maybe a couple or older kids as he still is a big guy and can knock over small kiddos." Story
ABOUT MOLLY Grab the tissues...Molly's miraculous story is sure to melt your heart. Molly came to HAP from unimaginable circumstances after being rescued from a severe hoarding and neglect situation, where she lived 18 other dogs. When our team arrived, Molly was found with Twix candy for food. By some miracle, she had survived. Upon arrival to the shelter, Molly weighed 50 lbs., which is severely emaciated for her size. Despite the obvious trauma she endured, she didn't snap or growl, she melted into our team, as if she finally felt safe. We are very pleased to share that Molly has already gained 10 lbs. in our care! As Molly adjusted to the shelter environment, she found reassurance in her new friends and has opened up with patience! Molly is a total sweetheart, just longing to be loved. We are currently working to help her gain back some healthy weight, which is quite the easy task since this little lady loves her snacks! Molly is super food motivated, walks well on a leash, and overall has beautiful manners. Her confidence grows day by day and we know this girl will make one loyal, loving companion! To help her open up, Molly has been enjoying our Doggy Day Out program. Here's what a few volunteers had to say about her: "I had a lovely day with Molly. She's such a sweet, loving and well-behaved dog! We started with a walk around the neighborhood. She is very good on the leash and was such a good girl in the house. She sits and gives her paw for treats. Molly enjoyed meeting my mom, she is super affectionate. She likes giving big sloppy kisses. Molly enjoyed cuddling up on the couch to get lots of attention. Molly really loved playing fetch with a round soft toy that looks like a soccer ball. She brought it back every time. Molly ended the day with a nice long nap on my mom’s lap We had such a great day. I hope she finds a loving home soon!" - Zoe "She is without a doubt the sweetest dog I have ever been around. I fell in love with her instantly. She was perfect is the car, perfect with my roomates, and perfect on a leash. The walk was amazing she was so well behaved and happy to sniff around! After the walk I gave her a bunch of treats and then sat on the ground with her while she napped. At first I thought she couldn't get comfortable but realized she just wanted cuddles. I hope this sweetheart gets a home soon she is absolutely amazing" - Riley If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
MARVEL is a 5 yr old Italian Mastiff (Cane Corso) who came to us after she became protective of her family in their home. Marvel is a victim of Covid-19. With the shelter in place order, her family was not able to properly socialize her and she grew up as a “big fish in a little pond”. Her family had many special needs children and medical care professionals needed to visit the home during the pandemic. They arrived wearing masks and Marvel thought that was very scary and began to protect the children from these masked strangers. The family called in a trainer but, due to the circumstances, everything was a little overwhelming for them. We acquired her on the day she was to be euthanized. Marvel has been fine with us. With a handful of treats she warms up quickly to our volunteers. We did have one incident with an unannounced visitor who approached her quickly and the result was a bite. In a home she may revert to her protectiveness so we are looking for a family with Cane Corso experience - walking the line between socialization and keeping her safe. Cane Corsos were originally war dogs during the Roman empire and used for protection - it is ingrained in their DNA. They have also been used for drafting and droving cattle – IE they need a job to do. Just sitting around the house twiddling their thumbs is a recipe for disaster which is what got Marvel into the situation in the first place. We have paired Marvel with playful young male dogs and they do well together with supervision (Marvel tends to play rough and takes the upper hand). We feel that she could work out in a home with a well-adjusted male dog to show her appropriate dog behavior or as an only pup. Not cat compatible. Marvel can fly over a 4 foot fence so 6 foot privacy fencing is ideal. If you are the home that we are looking for, please fill out an application at www.CompAnimals.org. Marvel is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. Adoption $300.November 3, 2024, 10:40 am

Story
This golden goofball is Chip—a big, bouncy mixed-breed mystery mutt who’s got the heart of a pup and the face of your favorite grandpa. Found as a stray in Georgia, Chip showed up skinny, heartworm positive, and down on his luck. But don’t worry—this comeback king got the royal treatment, beat heartworms like a champ, and is now living his best life up north while he searches for his forever couch (ahem, we mean home).Chip is currently on a very important mission: Operation Get Chunky. At 84 pounds, he's got the frame of a linebacker and the metabolism of a teenager, so we’re working hard to get some extra fluff on those bones! He’s a charming guy with luscious golden locks, soulful eyes, and a permanent “I just woke up from a nap” expression. Despite the distinguished mug, Chip's energy is all zoomies, tail wags, and belly flops.Chip is a social butterfly when it comes to meeting other dogs out and about—he enjoys having doggie friends to hang with—but he’d prefer to be the only animal in his home. He’s good with kids over 12, leash-savvy, and knows some commands (he’s very smart… when he feels like it). He’s the kind of pup who’ll make you laugh with his goofy antics, ridiculous sleeping positions, and dramatic sighs when he doesn’t get his way. Now, full transparency—Chip isn’t a huge fan of sharing his food or treats. Everything else? No problem! But when it comes to snack time, he prefers a little personal space. We totally get it (who doesn’t get hangry?), and we’re working with him on polite mealtime manners. Thanks to a kind sponsor from our community, Chip's adoption fee is already paid. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! ACSKC Health Care for Each Adopted Pet Includes:Dogs: Preventatives for parasites, vaccines (Kennel Cough, Distemper, Rabies), spay/neuter, microchip, behavioral assessment.Cats: Parasite treatment, FeLV/FIV testing, deworming for kittens, vaccines (Distemper, Rabies), spay/neuter, microchip. What You’ll Take Home:Toys, treats, and food sampleRabies tag, microchip number, and medical recordsA “Pet Pal Packet” with feeding info, training tips, and guidance for helping your new pet adjust
