Update 7/19: Danimal spent the July 4th weekend at his foster mom’s home. He loves to race
around the house, play with the kitties, and is doing much better with Haze, the dog. His
behavior in a home contrasts with how Danimal is in a cat room at HSNCF. There he is very shy
around people and tends to hide in one of the cat houses.
Danimal and his mom came to HSNCF from a difficult situation down south. He will need a
quiet home with friendly cat(s) and/or an easy going dog. More importantly, Danimal desires a
kind, patient, loving family who will give him time to continue to adjust to being an indoor cat.
He will enrich the adoptive family’s lives in so many ways. Foster mom doesn’t believe Danimal
will do well in a home with young children.
At his foster home, there are three cats who help foster kittens learn how to be inside cats. Each
one has a job. Danimal learned how to groom himself from Jack, Ziggy showed Danimal how to
play with toys and leap across the furniture, and Jaiet let Danimal know when his manners were
lacking by holding him down with her paw. Danimal uses the litter box quite well but desires it
to be cleaned regularly. Fresh water is a big deal for him. Even more so, are the incredibly
yummy kitty treats known as Churus. Beware of the love affair between Danimal and Churus.
LOL. Foster mom learned to squeeze out the Churu onto a plate then give the plate to Danimal.
Otherwise, Danimal will chew on the tube to get to the yummies.
Foster mom found out it is easier to give pets to Danimal when he is distracted while eating food
esp wet food which makes it possible pick him up for loving. His purr is soft but rumbles when
he is especially happy. He is eating Purina One kitten food. His foster mom often finds him
laying at the foot of her bed where he plays gently with her toes. Danimal may allow pets while
he is sunning himself in the window or snoozing on the cat tree. He loves to play with wand toys,
3 tier ball stands, small balls, mice, and other toys like wadded up paper balls. Danimal dislikes
loud noises and sudden movements.
His foster mom says he is a gentle kitten when she trims his toenails and tickles his tummy
softly. She does this in the bathroom where the noise level is low, and it is only the two of them.
She wraps Danimal up ‘burrito style’ and gently pulls a foot out one at a time to trim then tucks
the foot back in. Danimal is more at ease during these times as it is just him with one person. It
may be best for Danimal to start in a bathroom or bedroom where he can feel safe then be
allowed out into a larger area as he adjusts.
Please remember the 3-3-3 rules for adopting pets, it is very beneficial to know. It is a guideline
first 3 days of decompression (hiding, stress), 3
for acclimating adopted kittens/cats, weeks learning routines (settling in), and 3 months feeling fully at home. It emphasizes patience
and providing a safe space to build trust. This process is especially important for kitties like Danimal
