Story
Introducing Piper!Piper is a sweet and affectionate pup who's ready to find her forever home. She adores her daily walks and then happily curls up for a cozy nap. If you're looking for a new sidekick, Piper is the girl for you!Piper would thrive in a home where she feels included and connected. A work-from-home parent she can follow around all day would be ideal. Piper can be vocal when left alone, but has spent 2-3 hours on her own when her foster runs errands. She's incredibly smart... maybe too smart. If there are snacks lying around or an unguarded trash can, Piper is ready to turn them into treasure hunts! Her resourceful nature keeps you on your toes and brings plenty of laughter to the household. Her foster family says she is such a joy to have in their home. She will let you know when she needs to go outside, when she's hungry, and when it's bedtime and everyone should be headed up to sleep. She is smart and loves everyone she meets, especially on her walks. Her favourite pastimes include basking in the sun and attempting to chase squirrels when she sees them. Piper is best suited to a home where she's the only dog, since she prefers humans over canines. An adult-only home or one with older children would be ideal, as her bursts of energy might be too much for a small child.Piper has a condition called onchodystrophy which is a condition that affects the nail beds, and causes painful and brittle nails. She is currently on a hypoallergenic diet to help her along and it is also recommended that she stay on an omega fatty acid supplement to strengthen her nails. If you're ready for a loving family member who will steal your heart, Piper can't wait to meet you.Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Story
Hello!! My name is Poppy (Naia).  Here is some information about me: Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix Age: 2 years Gender: Female Weight: 65lbs Height: 24" tall Highlights: Beautiful, adventuresome, playful & athletic.   Meet Poppy (now Naia) — A Beautiful Ridgeback Mix with an Adventurous Spirit! At just five months old, Poppy’s life was hanging in the balance — she had landed on the euthanasia list at a busy California shelter. But her story took a wonderful turn when she was rescued just in time and brought to safety in Canada, where she quickly stole hearts with her soulful eyes and gentle nature. For the past year and a half, Poppy — now lovingly called Naia — has been cherished in a loving home. Her adopter describes her as sweet, playful, and incredibly athletic, with a zest for life that shines brightest on the trails. Her absolute favorite pastimes? Mountain biking, hiking or strolling in the forest! Sadly, due to unforeseen family circumstances, her adopter has made the heartbreaking decision to rehome her. This decision comes from a place of love and the desire to ensure Naia has the active, fulfilled life she truly deserves. Naia is a 2 years old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a beautiful, lean build and a loving heart. She’s smart and well-trained — she knows sit, stay, come, spin, roll over, and even catch! She bonds closely with her people and has a loyal, affectionate personality. Naia does have some quirks that come with her energetic nature — she’s always been a bit of a whiner for attention(since she was a puppy!), and she has a strong prey drive toward cats and squirrels. She can pull on leash when something catches her eye, but she walks beautifully with her Halti, which has been a big help. She’s best suited to a home with no cats or small animals. Naia is great with other dogs, with a preference for males, and would do best in a home with another dog of equal or larger size. She would thrive in a home with a yard or land where she can stretch her legs and run. Naia has also made great progress with her resource guarding around food — something her adopter has worked on with a trainer and behaviourist. It has improved significantly and no longer occurs regularly. Naia would thrive in a home with someone who: Is experienced and loves the outdoors (walking, hiking, or biking etc) Can offer structure, exercise, and affection Appreciates a loyal, expressive, and athletic companion Naia’s next chapter is waiting — could it be with you? Energy Level:  High I get along with: Dogs: Yes Cats: No Kids: Yes Fears/Prey Drive: Yes. Cats, Squirrels Training: Yes Leash Skills: Yes. Please be prepared to continue with my training. Housetrained: Yes.  Please assist me in learning where to go in my new home. Health: I am healthy, spayed, microchipped & up to date on vaccinations. My adoption fee is $800 CAD plus applicable taxes. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. ##1946114##

Story
Hi all, my name is Ozzy. I’m a handsome, 55 lb, 4 year old, loyal Treeing Walker Coonhound with a big heart and a few quirks that make me who I am. My life hasn’t always been easy — I lost my first home after my family had to move and couldn’t take me with them. Thankfully, a kind person took me in and gave me love, training, and stability. Now, due to changes in their life, it’s time for me to find a new forever home that truly fits me. I’m a smart, affectionate, and playful boy. I love to cuddle, make people laugh, and show off how clever I am (I’ve figured out a few tricks to earn treats — shh, don’t tell!). I’m full of personality and love being close to my humans. I’m also great with other dogs, especially calm ones. I am a little vocal, so best is if I live in a house.  That said, I’m still working on some things. I have a protective streak and can get possessive of my space or certain items (especially laundry — it smells so interesting!). I once nipped when someone tried to take something I really valued, but I’ve been working hard with a trainer and making great progress. I just need an experienced, confident owner who will continue my training, give me structure, and help me feel secure. I’m neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. I’m house-trained, love long walks, and enjoy a good nap just as much as a game of fetch. I can be a little anxious in small spaces or around loud noises, so a calm home with room to stretch out would be perfect for me. I may not be perfect, but I’m full of love, loyalty, and potential. With patience, structure, and understanding, I’ll be the most devoted and entertaining companion you could ask for. If you think we could be a match, I’d love to meet you — I’m ready to start my next chapter with someone who truly gets me. Please adopt me! My adoption fee is by donation. ##2550711##
