Story
Lotus (Lolo) is a sweet, wonderful, loving dog. We've had her since 2021 when she was just a 6 month old puppy. She loves meeting new people, running around in the backyard, going for walks, and the occasional pair of shoes. Her best quality is her excitement to see you every single time you enter the room. Lotus is a Catahoula Leopard dog which are native to Louisiana and known for their beautiful spotted coats. She was rescued from The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County (MD) and was part of a litter of 10. The decision to rehome her is not easy, but after extensive attempts, we have not found an allergy solution for our youngest kid. We will be saddened, but the amazing memories we have with her will stay forever. We hope that the joy, love, and laughs she has given our family can find their way into another's. She deserves the best care and will return that joy everyday. She is a dog who will provide warmth on cold nights and bring a smile to your face as she chases squirrels.

Story
This new friend has just arrived! They have come to us either as a transfer from another shelter, being found as a stray, or have been surrendered to us by their owner. When our friends are new to us, we are typically unsure of their full background, litter box habits, comfort with handling, or experience with other pets or children. Our staff will spend some time reviewing any information provided by previous owners and spend some time with our new friend so that we can better update their biography. If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific cat but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! We may require all household members, including children, to come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT SMURFETTE Smurfette is a gentle, sensitive girl who is still learning that the world isn't so scary. She came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Georgia when they no longer had space for her. Since arriving here, her confidence has grown, but she can be a bit of a nervous nellie and appreciates people who are willing to move at her pace. It may take a few soft words and some patience to earn her trust, but once she warms up, her sweet personality begins to shine through. Smurfette has been making wonderful progress, happily joining full walks and even showing curiosity toward other dogs. She recently enjoyed a calm greeting with a small dog, complete with tail wags and polite sniffs. When she feels safe, she's content to sit quietly with her favorite people, soaking up gentle pets and affection. Smurfette is looking for a patient, loving home that will help her continue building confidence and discovering just how good life can be! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
Volt is being fostered in NC. Volt has some vision. update Volt is doing well! He lives for cuddles at night before going to bed in his crate. During the day he has one speed and that is lightning fast. His favorite treat is carrots and he will do anything for them but lay down, lol. He has a pretty good recall and knows sit. He is fully potty trained and goes to the back door when he needs to go out. He plays so gently with his foster mom's mini aussies and rough and tumble with Elektra (corso) and Trigger (lab). Volt had some grand mal seizures that were caused by Simparica Trio. These lasted about 3 weeks with lingering focal seizures. He is still on keppra and he's doing great! He has not had any seizures in the last 3 months. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately
