When Patches arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Oklahoma, he tested positive for Heartworm. The team at Anderson believes the best place for Heartworm-positive dogs like Patches to undergo treatment and recovery is with a loving forever family. If you choose to adopt Patches, the clinic staff will support you every step of the way—answering questions and helping you through the process. Treatment typically spans about three months and includes simple at-home care to keep him safe while he heals, followed by a final test six months after treatment begins. The good news is that Heartworm treatment is highly successful, and the staff anticipates Patches will make a full recovery! It's also important to know that Heartworm can only be transmitted by mosquitoes, not directly from pet to pet.

Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.
