Name: CaratBreed: Catahoula/Lab MixDOB: 11/30/2023Good with kids: YESGood with dogs: YESGood with cats: YESFoster location: Streamwood, ILAdoption fee: $400Fun Bio: Carat is full of spunk. He’s small but he’s mighty! He holds his own with his big foster brothers and sister. He likes the crate, but when you leave he just wants to say he misses you and then he’s fine being alone! He loves attention and is working really hard on potty training, and bringing back my toys for fetch. Carat is territorial with toys and food but we are prioritizing that to learn because he would be great in a household with other dogs and we want to learn to share. If interested in a pet from us please fill out the adoption application that is located on our website.  We process applications in the order in which they are received.  We will likely not respond to interest emails regarding puppies and/or kittens, we get so many "interest" emails that we simply do not have the time to respond to each one.  We always recommend crate training, positive reinforcement training, exercise, playtime, and a regular schedule for potty breaks when bringing a new dog/puppy into your home. Adjustment takes time for both you and your new family member, so remember to be patient and enjoy this new and exciting time!Included in the adoption fee are age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm testing, deworming, spay or neuter surgery, and microchip. ##2010070##

FAST FACTS:*2 Years Old, 52 Pounds *Loving, Gentle, Snuggly, Loyal, Curious *Medium-to-High Energy*People Friendly *Dog Friendly *Potty Trained *Crate Trained*Undergoing Heartworm Treatment* Training RequiredBIO:Greetings from Willis, and I bet you're asking yourself, "What in the heck is a Catahoula Leopard Dog?" As it turns out, my breed is the official state dog of Louisiana. But somehow, I ended up as a stray in Texas, where I was taken to an overcrowded shelter and placed on the short-list for euthanasia before FTF came to my rescue. My foster mom says the first thing you should know about me is that I love, love, love to give and receive affection. We start every day with a snuggle session in her bed (she lets me climb up, lie next to her, and put my head on her shoulder) and end it with cuddle time before I go to sleep in my bed. Of course, a few long walks are part of our daily routine. In between, I keep her company while she works from home, alternately watching the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks running around outside the window and snoozing.Like so many pooches rescued from the south, I'm heartworm positive and have started treatment (the cost of which is entirely covered by FTF). While I'm recovering, I can't over-exert myself, so puzzle toys with hidden treats and bully sticks and other long-lasting chews plus the occasional car ride (I'm a great backseat navigator) help keep me entertained and my brain engaged. Once the vet gives me the "all-clear," I'll need you to sign us up for training classes, where I'll learn more basic commands (I already know sit and come) and improve my leash manners (I tend to pull, especially when a squirrel is in sight). My foster mom says I'm very smart and catch on quickly. So we may end up as the stars of the class!A few last things to mention. I'm potty trained (I had one accident in my foster home and that was it) and am crate trained but don't need one. Even when shoes are left on the floor, I'm not the slightest bit tempted. Finally, I'm good with other dogs, though I admit I get a little over-excited when I see them across the street on walks. Training will help with that, too.I hope my bio has you thinking I might just be the canine best friend you've been looking for. If so, please fill out an adoption application and let's schedule a meet and greet ASAP!Love and licks,WillisIf you'd like to adopt this dog, please get started by filling out a complete application (incomplete submissions cannot be sent.) Please note that while we take time to learn as much as we can about each dog in our care as possible, our bios are written from current observations. Though we do our best to share as much information as possible about each dog we care for, we are unable to make any guarantees on the future health or temperament of your adopted dog. Most dogs in our care come with unknown pre-rescue history, and information pertaining to breed and age are often educated guesses.

Story
This is Jesse! We adopted her, after fostering her twice, to save her life, for the second time! Its a long story, but we love her and wanted to spare her life because she is one of the best dogs I've met and so deserving of a life. I have a senior female who is not good with any other dogs, unless they come in to our house as small pups, 2-4 months old, and she hides under my desk ALL day long. That's no life for her. Jesse is about 14 months old. She loves all people and animals. She does need a little training but is easily trainable because she is very treat/food motivated. She doesn't love crates but does fine in one if needed. She also would do just find out of one. She just needs to be kept away from LOL dolls and stuffies with plastic eyes. We are pretty sure she had never been in a house before but she did great potty training, does well on a leash, in the car, loves her pedicures, cuddles on the couch and appreciates a nice warm human bed to sleep in!
