Story
Name: Buzz Breed: Catahoula/Australian Shepherd Mix Age/Sex: 1.5 years; Male Weight: approximately 50lbs Medical: up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: 10+ Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Alabama Buzz was abandoned before going to a high kill shelter where he was also risking not making out, which is amazing given just how sweet of a pup he is! This is something that is important to remember, shelters are so stressful for these dogs that they do not always show their best sides as they are just pushed beyond what they can handle. Since he was broke out from the pokie, we find that he is truly a happy-go-lucky baby. He does not bark in his crate. He is very independent; however, he simply has to say “hello” to everyone he meets! Which includes giving hugs and kisses. He loves barking at people and dogs when he sees them for the first time. And unfortunately, sometimes jumping! He loves jumping. This we are working on. He prefers not to share his crate or food with dogs. He is not food or toy aggressive towards people. He loves playing with other dogs, but he does love his private stash of belongings in his crib. So, he just asks for respect. He loves treats and toys. He has A LOT of energy and is a touch hyper. He loves walking and hiking. He does pull slightly when walking and is learning how to walk nicely. Buzz is a wonderful dog if you need a buddy in the car. He loves traveling in the vehicle with you and is the best co-pilot you could ever ask for! Buzz would be wonderful for an active family that loves hiking, climbing, and traveling. Name: Lark Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog mix Age/Sex: 1Y, Female Weight: 74 lbs. Medical: UTD on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: yes Kid Friendly: Ages 10+ Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Blooming Grove, NY Lark is a sweet, goofy girl who unfortunately lacks confidence. This girl needs strong leadership and direction. Without it she becomes fearful, and she gravitates to the possessive. She needs a breed savvy home with a handler who can help keep her fears in check and build her confidence. She’s doing very well in her foster home with other dogs. She seems to read the room through their eyes. New people and surprises make her uneasy, so she would do best in a home with another confident dog or two and no kids. Not a great fetcher, she’s happy to trot around the yard just holding the ball in her mouth as long as she’s hanging out with you. Story
Name: Atticus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Age/Sex: 3.5 years; Male Weight: 55lbs Medical: up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped Cat Friendly: With Supervision Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: 12+ Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Georgia Atticus is a 3½-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog with the striking eyes and beautiful markings typical of his breed.  This handsome, neutered, and fully vaccinated boy is ready for his next great adventure - and a forever family who understands what makes Catahoulas truly special.  Like many of his breed, Atticus is loyal to his people, protective of his home, and has an impressive brain that learns new tricks faster than you can grab the treat bag. He’s mastered the “place” command, which helps him know his boundaries - something he thrives on. Atticus recently stayed with a temporary foster who has other dogs in the house and he has shown curiosity but no sign of aggression; this same behavior has also been observed recently in a boarding facility.  With proper introductions and an owner that understands this breeds’ natural protective tendencies, he could coexist successfully with another dog. Give Atticus a job, a puzzle toy, or a good game of fetch, and you’ll have one happy dog. He enjoys hiking, park walks, fetch, and car rides. In the evenings, he’s happy to relax and cuddle after an active day and is a devoted companion.  He bonds fast and hard with his people, and wants nothing more than to be with his people for snuggles on the couch, walks or just to hang.  He is good with older children and lived successfully with a cat in the past; however, due to not living with a cat for a few years now, it may be best that he live in a household without cats unless the owner is willing to slowly and carefully re-introduce Atticus to living with cats again. As is common with Catahoulas, Atticus is loyal and naturally protective of his home and family. Atticus has lived in both an apartment and a house and has previously done very well with his fosters when his exercise, socialization, and training needs were met and he was given appropriate boundaries.  Like any Catahoula, he’ll do best with an owner who understands his protective instincts and keeps him mentally and physically engaged.  His last foster situation lacked that guidance, so he’s hoping his new home will get him back into his well-mannered groove. Story
Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Age: 4 years Weight: 75 lb Dogs: Yes; no small dogs Cats: No; Including Chickens Kids: Yes Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Warren, ME Shadow is everything that you read about Catahoula Leopard dogs. He loves his family but has energy that is endless! He loves to play, but he would be just fine being the only dog in the home, if you gave him a job! He is also the true essence of his name; he loves to be your Shadow! Shadow has lived his whole life with this one family and unfortunately, due to life events that have nothing to do with him, he needs to be rehomed. This will be tough for him, so he will need a new family that understands the breed and knows this is not a ready-made dog; due to the pandemic he has missed some key socialization periods and has not seen as much as some dogs and the world is still scary to him! Shadow is a true cuddle bunny with people and does love to play with other dogs. Little dogs will not be an option but if you have a dog that like to play and kids that like to cuddle this boy will be your boy for sure! He is very strong on leash but walks with respect. We do require you have Catahoula knowledge for this sweet boy. Name: Socks Breed: Catahoula Mix Age/Sex: 3 yrs old +/-, SF Weight: 60 lbs Medical: Up to Date and vaccinations, spayed, wormed, microchipped, Treated for Heartworm and now Negative Cat Friendly: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Older 8+ Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Wisconsin Miss Socks is the sweetest little goofball. She had a hard start, but you wouldn’t know it. From wriggling down the hill in the yard on her back to the cute snorts she makes sniffing a particularly interesting patch of grass and the tail wags so big she hits herself on both sides, she is sure to keep her forever family smiling. When the fun is over, she likes nothing better than to snuggle up with her people on the couch. Socks is very good in the house. She is house broken, crate trained and only chews on what’s appropriate. She knows several useful commands such as “crate”, “sit ”,“collar up”, “potty” “back up”, “wait” and just for fun “spin”. She is showing great improvement on leash manners and not counter surfing. Socks is a people pleaser and very food motivated so training is easy. She has done very well at doggie daycare, the vet’s office, and loves car rides. While she is an active little girl her exercise requirements can be easily met with a daily walk and some playtime. She has shown nothing but patience and kindness with her foster siblings - both canine and feline. She would love a low-key canine playmate but would do fine as an only fur kid. Even more than the other pups she loves her people and wants to stay close. Socks is looking for a happy forever home where her goofiness and kindness can shine, and she can get all the pets and snuggles she deserves. Story
Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Age: 3.5 years old +/- Weight: 60 lbs. Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, Microchipped, Spayed Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Young Adult/Teenage kids Yes, small children No House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Rhode Island Ginger is a sweet, energetic young Catahoula Leopard mix who is looking for her forever home. At just about 60lbs she is the perfect size and loves to crawl in your lap for rubs and kisses. Ginger is house trained and has never had an accident inside the home. She does well in a crate if you need to run a quick errand and when left alone outside her crate Ginger has been nondestructive. In her foster home Ginger has done amazing with her 5 doggy siblings, both females and males ranging from 65lbs to 105lbs. She can play rough and rowdy but takes and gives corrections if necessary. Ginger loves toys of all kinds and can stay busy by herself, but she does love a good game of fetch or tug with humans and other dogs. She knows basic commands and is well mannered on leash but naturally has a prey drive towards small animals. Ginger spends time perched on the back of the living room chair, watching everything very intently. Ginger loves riding in the car and gets very excited for trips. Ginger loves treats and walks. She is a very quick learner and loves to show you exactly what she wants (usually the treats on the counter). While she may enjoy digging holes and rolling in the dirt, she is calm and patient during bath time. Ginger would do best in a home without small children and even though she is dog friendly, she would strive in a home where she can get all of the attention and go on adventures. Ginger will need daily mental stimulation and physical exercise. During her time in foster Ginger has created a strong bond with both of us but is weary of men. It is difficult to truly define because she has done wonderful with our male vet and adult son Jack. Ginger is very eager to please and once she connects with you her love and loyalty show in every action. She will need a patient, calm, and confident companion to help guide her through this world!
