Story
Maxi 🐾- Shy Girl, Big Heart — and Always Ready for Adventure! Meet Maxi, a gentle soul with the softest eyes and sweetest heart. She’s a beautiful merle mix. Maybe a little cattle dog, maybe a little mystery and 100% love. At first, Maxi can be a bit shy as she learns to trust new people and surroundings. But once she feels safe, her loving and playful personality shines through. She’ll quietly melt into your lap for snuggles, follow you from room to room, and greet you with the sweetest tail wags just for being you. She’s very food-motivated, which makes her eager to learn and easy to train, and she absolutely loves toys! Playtime is her happy time, and she truly comes alive when she’s outside exploring, running, or soaking up the sunshine. Because of her playful spirit and love for activity, she’ll thrive in an active household where she can get daily exercise, outdoor time, and plenty of interaction. Maxi is also curious but gentle around cats. She may like to watch, follow or sniff them, but she’s respectful, making her a lovely potential companion for a home with feline friends. Once she’s feels safe and connected, Maxi becomes a loyal little shadow who wants to be part of everything you do, whether it’s going for a walk, playing in the yard, or curling up beside you after a long day. She’s on the lookout for a family who’s around often and ready to help her feel safe and adored. Maxi is experiencing separation anxiety and does not currently enjoy being crated or left alone. She has started on anxiety meds (fluoxetine, or prozac) and are working with a trainer to set her up for success. She is actively working on building comfort and confidence. A calm, confident dog friend or someone familiar with anxious pups who is able to be home a lot in the beginning or have an alternative place for her to hangout when out out of the house (think neighbor or grandma’s home) would be her dream match. Give her that kind of home, and she’ll give you joy, silliness, and love that grows brighter every day. To summarize, Maxi’s Ideal Home: • 🏡 A family that’s home often • 🐶 A calm, confident dog friend (bonus!) • 💛 Experience with shy/anxious/separation anxiety pups • 🎾 Active lifestyle with daily exercise • 🍖 Enjoys training and positive reinforcement • 🐱 Cat-friendly home is okay • 🌟 Wants a loyal, loving little shadow If you are interested in Maxi, click Apply for Adoption! Story
Georgia is a 9-yr old Catahoula. She has excellent indoor manners and has lived peacefully with cats. While she is past the high-energy puppy stage, she is happiest when she has access to a big backyard to explore or a nice daily walk. As a hound, she isn't afraid to use her voice and will occasionally treat you to a good howl. Georgia needs to be the only dog in the home. She is looking for a calm, loving environment where she can be the primary focus. She is an ideal match for a single adult or a couple. She has a successful history of sharing her space with cats. She is well-mannered indoors. Not a chewer. Comfortable in her crate. A quiet to moderately active household would suit her best. She enjoys her outdoor time but is equally content spending the rest of the day relaxing nearby. Georgia is a smart, affectionate girl with a unique personality. She is simply looking for a quiet home where she can spend her senior years as a cherished companion.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Jasper. That’s probably not my real name because my story is unfortunately a lot like many other unwanted pets. I was left to fend for myself not knowing where my next meal would be. Luckily I was rescued and given my chance to shine. I have proven that I really really love people regardless of my early start with humans. I want to be loved so much that I will beg for just a head rub and lap snuggles. Yes I’m a big strong boy but I’m really a small lap dog disguised in a hound dog body. Do I give slobbery kisses, why yes, is there a problem with that? I love to run and play but if given a choice I’d rather be by my persons side. I would make a great adventure companion. Riding shotgun by your side wherever you go, that would be my doggie dream. Currently I share a foster home with lots of other all size dogs but I would really like to be your only ride or die dog. I’ve gone so long without one on one attention that I’m constantly competing for the attention. Am I perfect? Heck no but I’m a diamond in the rough, clay ready to be molded. I’m looking for my person who is ready to be my furever person. One who will love me and never give up on me. I’ve been waiting a long time to just be loved. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 13, 2026, 12:21 am

Story
Meet Orieana   Orieana is a 2-year-old Catahoula hound mix with a heart as big as her story. We’ve known her since she was just an itty-bitty puppy, and while she was once adopted, she sadly found her way back to us a year later. She’s now been waiting almost another year, patiently hoping for the right person to finally give her the forever home she deserves.   This girl is truly something special. Orieana has wonderful manners and a gentle, loving nature. She’s incredibly social—she lights up when meeting new people and forms deep, meaningful bonds with her humans. Because she loves so hard, she can be a little protective of those she’s closest to, but it comes from a place of pure devotion.   She enjoys playing with other dogs and would love a canine companion, though she does best when toys aren’t shared. More than anything, Orieana just wants to be loved and included.   After being overlooked for so long, this sweet girl is more than ready for her second chance. She’s been waiting patiently for someone to see her for who she is—a loyal, affectionate, and deserving companion.   Orieana isn’t just looking for a home… she’s waiting for her person.     Apply at mmahrescue.org Adoption fee $300 Our hospital is open for adoption visitation Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 5:00pm and Saturday's from 8:00am to 11:00am.  If you have any questions please feel free to call us at             919-266-8177 or email pets4adoption@bellsouth.net.  All adoption fees are cash or check only, we do not accept credit cards for adoption fees. Story
(DOB 04/05/2025) Kevin Bacon is heartworm positive, but please do not let this stop you from adopting him. Our rescue will cover his treatment. For this reason, he is available for adoption within a 1 hour radius of Wake Forest, NC so he can receive his treatment at our partner veterinarian. Don't worry, our rescue will guide you through the process. Are you looking for a handsome, happy, snuggly little guy with piercing blue eyes like the Mediterranean Sea? Well then, Kevin Bacon is your guy! This adorable Catahoula Leopard Dog mix is as charming as they come, with beautiful blue merle markings on his snout and legs that make him truly stand out. Need we say, everything is "better with bacon!!" He’s not just good looks, Kevin Bacon is also a well-mannered gentleman. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash, takes treats gently, rarely barks, and doesn’t shed much. Basically, he’s the total package! He loves affection and will lean into you or gently rest his face on your knee for pets. He also rides well in the car once he’s in, though he may need a little patience and encouragement getting there. Kevin Bacon is playful, goofy, and full of personality. His play bows are legendary and often accompanied by spins, dances, and the occasional tiny (and we mean tiny!) body slam. He loves to have fun and brings a joyful energy wherever he goes. Kevin Bacon is an active, intelligent dog who will do best with an experienced owner familiar with working breeds. He needs a balance of physical exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and well-behaved. Daily walks (and remember, he’s great on leash!), enrichment activities, and continued socialization will help him thrive and build confidence. He may need thoughtful introductions to new dogs and environments, but he’s already shown great progress and adaptability. Someone who is good a chunk of the day or has a work-live schedule that's good and flexible so he can get out for good walks, morning, noon and night is really important for him; he'd love being your partner every day for walks, strolls, or jogs! Also, be mindful of the hot summer days and keep those shorter. He gets along well with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a playful canine companion, especially one who can help build his confidence. That said, he’s also independent enough that he could thrive as an only dog with the right amount of engagement. He has done well around children, but due to his enthusiastic zoomies and occasional clumsy moments, a home with older kids would be the best fit. Because he does love chase wildlife, a home without cats is recommended. Kevin Bacon is a special little guy with so much love, personality, and potential. If you’re ready for a fun, affectionate companion who will keep you smiling, so go ahead and fill out that application! As part of Kevin Bacon’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet pup, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Kevin Bacon, you can complete an application online for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2703682##

Story
Merle is 1 years old and such a wonderful pup with a sweet, loyal personality and so much love to give. He loves cuddling with his people and is always happiest when he’s spending time with his family. He is house trained, knows a few commands, and absolutely loves to play. Whether it’s a game of fetch, chewing on his favorite toy to find the squeaker, or simply being by your side, Merle is always ready for fun and affection.Unfortunately, due to changes in our work schedules and life demands, we’ve reached a point where we can no longer give Merle the time and attention he truly deserves. As a working breed, he would do best with someone who has the time to continue working with him, provide additional training, and build a strong bond with him. He is an amazing dog, and we want to find him a loving home where he can thrive and get all the attention he deserves.

Story
Budreau is a playful, cuddly boy with a joyful spirit and a big heart. He rides beautifully in the car and is always ready for the next adventure — especially if it ends with snuggles. One of his favorite things is gently waking you up in the morning for hugs before starting his day. He loves to run and play with his dog friends, chew on his favorite toys, and engage in a good game of tug-of-war. Budreau would thrive in a home with a fenced yard or regular access to a safe play area, and he would do best with another playful dog to help burn off his happy energy. While he rarely barks and enjoys meeting new people, he can be a little cautious at first. Give him a moment, though, and his goofy, affectionate personality quickly shines through. Budreau is housetrained and does very well on a consistent routine. He wakes up ready to play, enjoys activity throughout the day, and is equally happy settling in for cozy naps. He would likely do great with kids. His compatibility with cats is unknown. Budreau is up to date on vaccines, preventatives, and microchipped, and will soon be neutered. He's ready to find a home where he can share his playful energy and loving nature.
