Story
Amber Was Left Behind — But You Don’t Have To Leave Her Story Here Imagine this: it’s over 100 degrees outside in the Houston heat. You’re tied up under a bridge with two of your closest companions. You’re thirsty, scared, and have no idea why the people you trusted disappeared. That was Amber’s reality. She and two small dogs were dumped under an overpass like trash. Left in the heat with no food, no water, and no chance, unless someone stepped in. A kind stranger found them and scrambled to get help. But here’s the heartbreaking part: rescues said they’d take the two little dogs, but not Amber. She was too big. Too “hard to place.” They were willing to save two... and leave one behind. But not us. Scout’s Honor said yes to all three. Because we believe every dog matters, especially the ones no one else will help. And thank goodness we did. Amber is absolutely wonderful. She’s a gorgeous, medium-sized brindle girl, maybe part Catahoula, with a sweet soul and gentle eyes. She’s friendly, calm, and affectionate. The kind of dog who melts into you during snuggle time and gazes up at you like you hung the moon. Amber is about 4–5 years old and has quickly shown us just how special she is. She’s a calm, affectionate brindle beauty, likely a Catahoula mix, with soulful eyes and a heart full of love. She’s incredibly sweet, gentle, and well-behaved. The kind of dog who doesn’t ask for much, just a soft spot to rest and a human to love. She seems to get along beautifully with other dogs, big and small. And her easygoing nature makes her an ideal addition to just about any home. Amber is looking for a forever family. Could it be you?    January 26, 2026, 2:08 pm

Story
Meet Joy — a pup true to her name!Joy is a 5-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog (about 45 lbs) whose biggest talent is making everyone around her feel… JOYful. She`s gentle and easy-going, and she`s the kind of dog that fits right into your life and makes it better.Joy loves other dogs... big, small, young, old. She would thrive with a playful canine sibling who enjoys wrestling and having fun. After playtime, she’s perfectly happy to settle down and relax at your feet or cuddle on the couch watching TV.She’s fantastic with kids and has been especially sweet and gentle with an 8-year-old in her foster home. Joy takes treats politely and has a habit of trying to give “hugs” by placing her paws on your waist. Her forgiving, tender spirit really shines around children.House manners? Nailed it.? Fully potty trained? Sleeps quietly in her crate all night (and actually likes it!)? No guarding, no reactivity, no aggression? Walks nicely on leashJoy has a medium energy level. She enjoys playful bursts and morning zoomies, but she’s not a fence-runner or a nonstop athlete. She prefers being close to her people and will politely let you know when she’s ready to come back inside.Despite an unknown past, Joy has proven to be remarkably trusting, loving, and adaptable. She wants to be where her people (and dog friends) are, soaking up companionship and sharing her calm, affectionate presence. She’s ready to be someone’s forever companion! Maybe yours?Joy is currently in a loving foster home in the Houston, Texas area. She is able to travel out of state! Adoption application: https://www.this-is-houston.org/adopt/adopt-application

Story
MEET CHAI! Chai is a 3-year-old, 53-lb Catahoula mix who is as sweet and affectionate as they come. This handsome boy truly loves being close to his people and feels happiest when he can see what his humans are up to.Chai prefers not to be left alone and does best when his crate is set up in a room where he can feel included—he just wants to be part of the family. He’s a smart, eager-to-please pup who already knows sit, down, and even an adorable “play dead” trick! He’ll also spin in a circle on a hand signal and enjoys showing off his skills, especially when food is involved.Chai appears to be house trained and gets along well with other dogs of all sizes. He’s playful and would love a dog buddy who actually wants to romp and play with him. He likes kids and has not yet been tested with cats.On leash, Chai can be a bit of a puller, but with consistency and positive reinforcement (especially treats!), he should improve quickly. If you’re looking for a loyal, people-loving companion with brains, personality, and a big heart, Chai is your guy. Located in Houston, TX Transport available to most states for a $300 fee
