Rocky was surrendered to the shelter after his owner passed and he did not get along with the family members other dog. Rocky was understandably nervous when first arriving at the shelter, but as he begins to realize he’s safe we are starting to see this handsome guys affectionate personality. He’s been laidback with us but that might change as he decompresses in his new home. Rocky wants nothing more than to find a loving family to call his own. While Rocky may be able to live with a cat in the home with a slow introduction and managed interactions, he’d prefer to be the only dog in the home. Hi, I’m Finley! My foster describes me as smart, easygoing, well-behaved, and above all else, an incredible companion. I’m happiest simply being by your side—whether you’re hiking, working around the house, chopping wood, taking a nap, or just going about your day, I’m ready to tag along! I settled into my foster home almost immediately, and within about five minutes it seemed like I’d been part of farm life forever. I currently live with two other male dogs, including a senior Lab, and I’ve done wonderfully with both of them. I’ve also handled meeting new people without any problems. At night, I’m a quiet, sound sleeper and am perfectly happy snoozing at the foot of the bed before getting up to start another day with my people. I have a nice medium energy level and stay active following everyone around, but I’m equally happy to relax when you do. Because companionship means so much to me, I’d especially love a home where someone is around often—maybe a remote worker, retiree, or anyone looking for a four-legged best friend to share their days with. Current Location: Vienna, VA Buck is a handsome 4-year-old Golden Retriever Poodle mix with a gorgeous golden coat, a strapping 60-pound build, and a whole lot of enthusiasm for life! Buck is curious about the world around him, especially when he spots a deer, bird, or squirrel. He may try to pull toward them, but he can be redirected and continue his walk. He is still working on his leash manners and learning to walk on the left with a loose leash. He is making progress and will benefit from continued practice and positive reinforcement. Buck is also a big fan of food, which comes in handy for training. He is working on “sit” and occasionally demonstrates what we like to call selective hearing. His hearing seems to improve dramatically when there is a treat in hand or a food bowl nearby! He can get very excited when it is time to come out of his crate or go for a walk. He may jump, pace, and work himself up before settling into the activity. With consistency and patience, he is learning to manage that excitement. Buck is a good eater, sleeps through the night in his crate, and is quiet and comfortable while crated. He is generally a quiet boy and has only barked back at a particularly chatty Miniature Pinscher. Best of all, Buck enjoys other dogs and would love having a canine companion. He is already neutered and ready to find a family who will appreciate his big heart, handsome looks, and enthusiastic personality. Buck is a wonderful combination of sweet, curious, energetic, and goofy. He is still polishing his manners, but he is a very good boy who is ready to keep learning with a family of his own.
