Story
Looks like: Chihuahua Male, 9 years old, 9 pounds Meet Pepito! This little guy is an absolute gem! Looking for a loving, affectionate, lap dog? This is the pup for you! Want a fully capable ride or die personal secret service agent in a compact Chihuahua body? Pepito's your guy! Need an eager carpool pal or walking partner? He's ready! Want a cuddle buddy without separation anxiety or flight-risk issues? Look no further! Pepito is a smart, affectionate, loyal, obedient pup who is cat friendly and gets along with nice dogs. On occasion he may need a gentle reminder to stand down (not every hooded stranger is an assassin), but Pepito responds well to correction and is incredibly clever. If you're looking for BIG love in a little body with a splash of Chi spice for occasional strangers, no one is better. Pepito would do best in a childfree home. Pepito's story is a testament to the power of love and second chances. He came to us from Santa Cruz County Animal Services after being surrendered by his guardian, who could no longer care for him due to living arrangements. He joined his foster home scared, uncertain and in pain, and reacted when pain meds were forcibly administered. He wasn't a bad dog, just scared and in pain. With the loving patience of his new foster mom and tolerant cat family, Pepito's life has made a complete 180! He is now a happy, loving, amazing little companion.

Story
Looks like: Chihuahua Male, 14 years old, 10 pounds Horchata is not only a cinnamon beverage, but also a deliciously sweet and spicy little dog! He is perfectly content napping through most of the day with occasional treat or cuddle breaks. He enjoys toddling around a yard taking in all there is to smell. He is vision impaired, so he likes to take it slow on walks, but overall he still navigates the world pretty well. He'd be a wonderful companion for someone who is home much of the day and has a quiet lifestyle. Horchata does great with cats. He is indifferent to other dogs and prefers to be handled on his own terms so he doesn't always appreciate pets and snuggles, but he always loves curling up in a cozy dog bed! Horchata came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after he was picked up as a stray.

Story
Looks like: Miniature Pinscher, Chihuahua mix Female, 10 years old (estimated), 11 pounds Sweet senior Mila is looking for a cozy home to snuggle up into and relax. Mila isn't big on walks or cuddling with her people at this time but loves to snooze the day away in a nice comfy bed (we can't blame her)! She is searching for that soft and loving home to curl up into while our vet clinic works through her medical and gets her feeling better. Mila has some vision impairments so she will need a home that can keep her safe in this respect. She gets along well with other dogs but isn't big on interacting with them at this time. We don't know how this girl would do with kitties or kids yet. This sweet senior lady came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after she was found as a stray.

Story
Looks like: Chihuahua mix Female, 6 years old (estimated), 10 pounds The regal Duchess is ready to be pampered in a palace of her own, but could benefit from some time off her throne in order to achieve her optimal health. After living on the streets, it's no surprise that Duchess is relieved to just relax at home. We are confident that some nice strolls around the block will do her a world of good. She gets along just fine with other dogs (including the many dogs in her foster home), but she prefers watching dogs from a comfortable distance. Not a fan of rambunctious puppy energy, Dutchess appreciates creatures that are small, quiet, and as calm as she is. This sweet girl's dream is to find a sunny spot and a soft bed in a peaceful home. She is also looking for a forever person who will work with her on weight management, gently increasing her activity level. After being found as a stray, Duchess came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services.

Story
Looks like: Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher mix Female, 12 years old (estimated), 9 pounds Artemis would like to find her very own pooch support person. This very sweet and lovable gal was found as a stray and had a pretty rough time until she finally landed with us at POMDR. At her foster home, she has been so grateful for a caring and peaceful environment to decompress in and has started to come out of her shell. Arty is in her own little world most of the time and does not engage much with people. By now though, she trusts being gently pet and kissed on the head, but is unsure about other forms of affection. She really enjoys yard explorations and slow, easy walks. This little Missy is mostly indifferent towards other dogs (and likely also towards cats) and gets a bit intimidated when fellow canines get right into her face. Arty would love to find a safe, quiet, and patient home with a nice cush bed where she can curl up and just be near you. She will follow you around, making sure that she does not lose track of you. She is fine when home alone now and then, but also appreciates coming along on car rides. Arty appears to be a little hard of hearing and only has a few teeth left, but she very much enjoys three good meals of her special food. She will need frequent reminders to go outside to do her "business." As time goes by and Arty feels safe and loved, we expect her to relax more and more and let her guard down little by little. She will need people who are patient with her "Artemisms" and considerate of her space and pace. We can't wait to see her making the best of her second chance on life and are so looking forward to happy tail-wags sometime down the road. Artemis came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services where she was very shut down and overwhelmed.

Not good with kids, Good with dogs, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
The Good: Q-Tip is 6 years old and 4 lbs of adorable energy! She is affectionate and wants to be where you are, especially if youre chilling on the couch. She can sit, twirl, and go into her crate on command, and she has good recall. She is house trained and prefers to go outside, but she will have accidents if you dont let her out enough. She gets along with other dogs her size and has had a female doggie roommate. She walks well on a leash, but walks arent required if she can exercise in an enclosed backyard. She doesnt mind being dressed up in sweaters and costumes and she tolerates the cold (even snow!) extremely well. The Bad: 1. She does not like small children. She would do best in a home with older children and adults. 2. She is not a laidback dog and needs to investigate every noise. (She would be a great watchdog!) But she will also bark at people at the door and has to be put in her crate when guests arrive. 3. Her bark is loud for her size.
