Story
Meet Napolean, the chipper little fella of a chihuahua! He came into the Shelter as a stray so we don’t have much history on him. Staff report that although tiny, Napolean is confident and social – often at the front of his kennel greeting people with tail wags and eager whining. He tolerates being picked up and, once in the yard, bounding around and playing. He has enjoyed playgroup with similarly sized dogs and has even “held his own” with larger sized dogs. A home with another canine to play with may be a fit in the future after a meet and greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Napolean with cats or dogs. Although tiny, Napolean`s energy is mighty so he would likely do well in a home that is active and will take him out for adventures with them. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet ROXY One of our beautiful Miracle Puppies! This little mischief-maker will absolutely steal your heart—and probably your socks too! Roxy is a Chihuahua mix puppy with a fun, playful personality and a twinkle of mischief in her eyes. Roxy is curious and clever. She loves to explore and will happily steal and chew anything she finds—shoes, toys, blankets, you name it! While she’s still a bit nervous in new environments, once she feels safe, her bright and bouncy personality shines through. She’s doing well with her leash training and continues to build confidence with gentle encouragement. She would love a home with another friendly dog to play and learn from, but it’s not a requirement if she has regular opportunities to socialize with doggy friends. Roxy thrives on playtime, affection, and consistency. She’s still learning the ropes but is smart, silly, and ready to blossom in a loving home. If you're interested in adopting Roxy, please complete an application on our website. We receive many wonderful applications and may not be able to respond to everyone individually—but if we feel you could be a match, we will reach out directly. Thank you for supporting rescue and helping us give these little miracles the futures they deserve.
