HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is currently spending time in a foster home. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact ARL-Adoption@arl-iowa.org.---- Great dog with tons of potential who is looking for a special family who will continue working with her to help her gain confidence and learn that life is full of great things. If you're up to the challenge, read on! - Came from an environment where she did not get the normal socialization that most puppies get, so the world is still a very scary place for her - Has come a long way in the weeks we have been working with her, and will take treats from people she has a relationship with, and will goofily play with toys - We are requiring a fenced yard to ensure she stays safe and secure as she has had no experience with being on leash - Has worked with our behavior team on being OK with being touched, and has solicited some attention; we've seen lots of progress, but things such as petting from strangers, leashing up, and anything a "normal" dog would like can still be quite scary for her, so she will need continued help over time from her new family - Leaving interactions 100% up to her and using treats as rewards are great ways to gain her trust; she LOVES having the choice to interact and have her space - Has shown interest in other dogs and would really benefit from a calm, confident dog friend in her new home so she can follow their lead and build confidence by watching them navigate daily life - Needs a teens-and-up home right now, as young children are way too much for her. A mature, structured home would be perfect! - Since she's still learning to live with people, vet visits will have to be approached differently, so it will be important to talk with your veterinarian about ways to help her be most comfortable - Looking for a predictable home with very patient people who understand that it will take her not days but weeks to become completely comfortable. If you're willing to give her that time, you'll see, just as we have, that she is worth the wait! It will be incredibly rewarding to watch her become more trusting every day! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 8.2 Age: 3yrs 3mths 0wks

Story
- Tends to be an introvert around other dogs and may prefer one-on-one interactions or smaller groups of dog friends; may not be comfortable at dog parks or at large, dog-friendly events (dog intro recommended) - Prefers to explore and do their own thing here in the shelter, but will likely open up more once they're in a home environment and have had time to decompress - Shy boy, needs a teens and up home right now- The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Meet Marnie! She’s a sweet little 5 year old and 9 pound chihuahua mix. She’s a little unsure what’s going on at the rescue, but she’s a little love. She’s good with all people and with other dogs. She’s quiet and loves attention once she knows you.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
Meet Sammi May, a cute 4-year-old Chihuahua weighing 13 pounds. This sweet girl is looking for a new home after her previous owner faced financial difficulties. Currently adjusting to life in a foster home, Sammi May can be shy at first but blossoms into a loving companion once she feels comfortable. She gets along well with all dogs, though she’s a bit wary of larger ones. Sammi May is fully potty trained and would thrive in a calm environment with older children, as she prefers not to be startled or grabbed. If you’re looking for a gentle soul to join your family, Sammi May is the perfect match!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
Rico is a charming 4-year-old Chihuahua mix who was adopted from us 3 years ago. He's a happy and affectionate pup, but he's discovered that he's not a fan of babies, so a new baby in the house was a huge stressor for him. Despite this, Rico is doing exceptionally well at the rescue with other dogs and is good with children 4 and up. He loves to run around and play, showing a playful side that will bring joy to any home. Rico is incredibly affectionate with his people, making him a loyal companion.Rico would thrive in a home without babies, where he can feel safe and secure. He would also benefit from having a canine companion, as he enjoys the company of other dogs.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats.
