Story
Virgil is an almost 6 year old Chihuahua mix (maybe with a little pug; he's 12lbs) looking for his forever home. He was surrendered by an older couple who couldn't care for him any longer. He does well in his foster home as long as he's let out regularly, and is kennel trained. He loves other dogs around his size - he can be intimidated by larger ones but he likes to run around the yard and chase them if they're willing to play. He does okay with kiddos as long as they aren't trying to grab him. He likes car rides and sitting in his foster mom's lap the most. His adoption fee is $250 - if interested in meeting Virgil, apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Miss Peony is a young adult chihuahua mix looking for her forever home. She is timid but sweet with a touch of chihuahua spice. It takes a bit for her to warm up but after that she does well. She is playful and is learning about dog toys and bones. Peony kennels well and is doing well with potty training. She is an Oklahoma girl so this Iowa cold is an adjustment. She will use a potty pad if she is struggling to go outside in the cold. She does okay with other dogs as long as they are not getting in her face too much. If you are interested in meeting Peony, please fill out an application on our website www.foreverhomedogs.org Her adoption fee is $250All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Story
Baby Bat embodies the personality, uniqueness and likeness of the Batman. First, he works alone. No sidekicks or partners. He prefers solitude and his space. Baby Bat has lived with his foster and her dog pack for 5 years, he gets along with them but tolerates them at most. He would do well in a home where he is the only dog, no children, and adults only. Next, Baby Bat is an apex predator. Which means he needs his sleep and food and not to be interrupted or coddled when given either. Baby Bat is not a lap or cuddly dog. Finally, did we mention Baby Bat is a Chihuahua mix? That's a really important detail! Baby Bat is a great and loyal dog seeking a great family to adopt him! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
I'm Henry. I'm a tiny guy. I'm a little shy when I meet new people. I'd been with the same family for a very long time and now I'm out having to look for a new home. So, things are a little scary for me, but I promise to be your best buddy if you'll give me a chance.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2593732##

Story
Hi, I'm Walter! So.... long story short, my owner went to jail and I was living in a tiny camper with a total of 6 dogs and 4 guinea pigs inside. Not to mention the two that were chained up outside, so life was pretty croweded and confusing. Now, I'm learning what it feels like to have space and lots of people who care about me. I'm a little unsure at times, but i'm really trying my best and I warm up fast when someone shows me love! I'm looking for a fresh start with someone who can give me a safe, calm home. I promise i've got a big heart ready for you! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Now, don't tell me you don't remember Fred and Ginger, his ginger haired dance partner ;) If you are a millennial you may not but the REST of us do!! SO, where was I?? Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are such awesome namesakes for us... we are ATTACHED at the hip to each other and we operate in dance like moves when we are together.... so YES we are a BONDED pair of cuties!! We are lanky chis, most likely Min Pin/Chi mixes with the long and elegant legs and sweet, playful personalities. Ginger is more reserved and shy than her boyfriend, Fred. So you have definitely learned some about us... we are young and teeny weeny :) yes that is a word!! We are learning all the home stuff, like leash training, crate and house training and we have excelled at all!! So if you are looking for a lap pup and one that will be one someday.. we are YOUR PUPS!!! Adopt us together and get double the love for LIFE!!! Local adoption, together $400 (in TX) Out of state adoption, together $800
