Story
Meet Toby — a 5-year-old (+/-) Chihuahua with a heart full of love, a head full of opinions, and legs that are always ready to zoom. Toby is what we’d call a “selective socialite.” He’s not the type to run up to strangers and hand out friendship bracelets—but with patience (and a thorough sniff test), he’s been making progress. He’s had several positive experiences meeting new people lately, which shows how much potential he has when given time and encouragement. Basically, he’s a tiny bouncer in a fur coat who’s learning that maybe not everyone is trying to sneak into the VIP lounge. Here’s what Toby does love: 🌲 Nature walks on quiet trails, where he struts like he owns the forest. 💦 Splashing at the water’s edge—he’s not a swimmer yet, but he’s curious. 🥦 Broccoli. Yes, seriously. He’s a veggie connoisseur. 🧹 The vacuum? Not scary. Toby’s got bigger things to bark at. 🚗 Car rides are his jam—bonus points if he gets to announce his arrival out the window. 🐱 Cats? Totally fine. Zero drama there. Now, Toby isn’t without quirks. Cars on walks? He thinks they need to be put in their place, so he’ll bark and lunge to make sure they know who’s boss. Strangers? He’s still learning that new people can be okay, though he listens beautifully to direction and encouragement once he trusts his human. With patience, consistency, and maybe a little professional training, Toby has all the potential to keep growing into his best self. At home, he’s a lovable cuddle bug who adores pets and zooms around like a caffeinated squirrel when he’s excited. He’s affectionate, playful, and absolutely hilarious once he feels secure. Toby may never be your party pup or the mayor of the dog park, but he doesn’t need to be. What he will be is a fiercely loyal, endlessly entertaining little companion who will love you with everything he’s got. Adopt Toby—your spicy, snuggly adventure buddy with a bark that’s big, but a heart that’s even bigger. 🐾💚 If you are interested in finding out more about Toby, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Toby is being fostered in Groton, MA. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Meet Rex, a sweet little chihuahua mix with a gentle soul and a curious mind. Quite timid at first, he prefers to observe the world from a safe distance, taking everything in with wide, thoughtful eyes. With a little patience and yummy treats, his personality begins to shine through, leading him to cautiously explore at his own pace. Rex came to to us in late November and adjusted ok to the cold and snow. He’s happy to head outside to take care of business, but doesn’t linger—he much prefers returning to the safety of the indoors. Rex arrived with a collapsing trachea, a chronic cough, and a heart arrhythmia and murmur, all of which are currently managed with daily medications. He takes his meds like a champ, especially when they’re wrapped in turkey. He currently coexists peacefully with a medium sized dog and a pleasantly plump cat. A calm, gentle, and loving environment would be ideal for this sweet little guy, one where he can feel safe, supported, and encouraged, preferably with a warm lap always nearby for snuggles. With time and gentle reassurance, Rex is sure to blossom into a deeply loving companion. He is the sweetest and easiest low maintenance pup and guaranteed to make you laugh on a daily basis. Story
Meet Milo 🐾 Milo is an adorable 11 lb shadow pup who loves being close to his person. Whether he’s relaxing by your side or following you from room to room, he’s happiest just being near you. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people, so he does best when allowed to approach on his own terms. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet and loving personality really shines. Milo gets excited for walks and enjoys playing with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and respectful. If a dog comes on too strong, he’ll let them know with a little growl—he’s just advocating for his space. On walks, he may get a bit over-hyped or nervous when spotting dogs from a distance, but he’s easily redirected and responds great to treats. He loves a good game of fetch and is always up for chasing a ball. Milo is also very food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding. At home, he’s an absolute dream—he sleeps wonderfully in his crate and is fully potty trained. Story
Meet Ellie – Special Medical Needs ??Ellie is truly one of a kind and ready to fill her future home with joy, personality, and so much love. When she first arrived at WARL in February, she was emaciated and very sick, and some of her intake photos reflect just how far she has come. Ellie was having very concerning medical episodes and was diagnosed with a liver condition by the shelter`s vet team. What followed was an incredible transformation. With dedicated veterinary care and a carefully managed plan, Ellie went from a medical mystery to a thriving, happy girl. She has been diagnosed with microvascular dysplasia and is doing beautifully with the right support. A prescription diet has been life saver for her, and she will have to stay on it permanently.Ellie’s personality is what makes her unforgettable. She is playful, soulful, and full of life. She loves prancing through the neighborhood, soaking everything in, and is always up for fetch or a burst of zoomies. She is also incredibly affectionate and happiest right by your side.Ellie will need to stay on a strict prescription liver diet for life, with an estimated cost of about $140 per month, along with yearlyIf you are looking to adopt a fun, loving, and truly special companion and can financially support her, please come to the shelter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 12-4pm. If you are unable to come during those times, please email dogs@worcesterarl.org to see what times may be available by appointment.

Story
Hopper is a sweet but sensitive little guy who takes a bit of time to warm up—but once he trusts you, he absolutely loves attention and being close to his people. He has a playful side and enjoys running around and having fun, especially when he feels comfortable in his environment. Hopper has previously lived with another dog and did very well, so he may enjoy having a canine companion again in his new home. Like many Chihuahuas, Hopper has a big personality for a small body—he can be vocal and expressive, and he definitely knows what he likes (and doesn’t like!). Cold weather is not his favorite, and he may refuse to go outside when temperatures drop.Hopper isn’t a fan of vet visits and will need some extra support, including pre-medication and a muzzle, to help keep him calm and safe during appointments. With a little patience at the start, Hopper will reward you with affection, companionship, and plenty of personality. No apartment buildings for Hopper.

Story
Rescued: 11/9/2025 Age at the time of rescue: 3 months Current weight: 31.5 pounds Affectionately named Scooby, we are completely in love with this lucky little pup. Scooby was found at sunrise abandoned in a wire cage next to our shelter gates. Someone had placed him there in the dark of night—perhaps knowing how full we truly are, perhaps not—wanting their problems to go away and leaving ours a little heavier. We would never turn our backs on rescues in need, and we are blessed to have helped Scooby grow into an amazingly loving, happy pup who is fully vetted, sterilized, and ready to find his forever family. Thank you for considering a dog in need! Please go to our website at www.satoheartrescue.org to download our application. The adoption fee is $500.00 which can be paid in cash or check. We look forward to working with you! PLEASE DO NOT send an INQUIRY THROUGH Adopt-A-Pet. Due to the volume of emails we receive, we will not be able to reply.
