Story
Nacho is a 1-year-old Chihuahua with the cutest ears you’ve ever seen and a whole lot of love to give once he feels safe. This little guy can be very worried when meeting new people and wasn’t well socialized early on, so first impressions can be noisy—he may bark and growl at strangers until he’s had the time and space he needs to warm up. Because of this, Nacho is looking for an adopter who understands fear-based behaviors and is comfortable advocating for him, setting boundaries, and letting him move at his own pace. He should never be pressured to interact before he’s ready. Once Nacho knows and trusts you, his true personality shines. He’s incredibly sweet, loves to cuddle and snuggle with his people, and enjoys playing with balls and squeaky toys. He has lived with kids in the past and done well, but any new children should be introduced slowly and thoughtfully to help Nacho feel safe and confident. We do not yet know how he does with other dogs. Nacho will thrive in a patient, understanding home that can give him consistency, predictability, and plenty of reassurance. In the right hands, this sensitive little guy will be a devoted, loving companion—and your best snuggle buddy. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Story
Meet Myles! This sensitive boy lived a pretty sheltered life before coming to us, so he’ll need a patient adopter who can help him settle in and learn how to be successful in a home at his own pace. New people and environments can be a bit scary for Myles, so he would do best in a low-traffic home and quiet neighborhood that he can explore as he grows comfortable. Myles could live with a well-matched dog that can show him the ropes, potentially cats, and older children who can practice some shy dog skills.

Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs experienced adopter,
Story
He has been the sweetest boy in the nearly ten years we’ve had him. But we now have three children, two with neurodivergence and a newborn. The house is now just too high energy for him. He deserves to live out his days in peace and quiet. Okay with kids, and other pets. But the ideal situation is just him and maybe one other pet.

Story
This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)   To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   PLEASE READ:     •    If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.     •    All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.     •    Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.   Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.   Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.   For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.   ##2610443##
