Reese has been an integral part of my life for a long time. It’s sad that he has to be rehomed because I will miss him dearly. Reese joined our family about 10 years ago. We got him at Pet Express. He was the cutest little thing. He was so kind, friendly, and curious. He's an awesome companion. He does well with other small to medium dogs and children. He''s super playful, but loves to snuggle up under a blanket and take naps. He's very social but knows how to self occupy by playing with his toys. He is neutered and his shots will be up to date upon adoption. He’s smart and extremely affectionate so be ready for lots of love and empathy from him. There have been times I've cried and he would come over to comfort me. I think he’d be an amazing addition for an older couple or an older individual who is looking for a loyal companion that’s portable and loving.

Story
Meet Ruthie: senior in years, noodle in body, and professional couch hog 💕🐾 Ruthie is a 9lb, 11-year-old Chihuahua mix who somehow missed the memo about looking her age. She’s got the long, tall, lanky body of a tiny greyhound and just enough pep to keep life interesting—think “elegant senior with a playful streak.” She’s a quiet little lady who prefers peace and calm. Loud noises? Hard pass. Barking? Rare—but fair warning, when she does bark, it’s impressively loud for her size. Her absolute favorite place to be is on the couch with her foster mom, nose-to-nose, like they’re sharing top-secret gossip 😂. Ruthie is excellent in her crate and does wonderfully with routine. She can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but with a little time and gentle reassurance, she’s expected to grow more confident as she settles in. When it comes to exercise, Ruthie enjoys short strolls to sniff the neighborhood and stretch her long legs—marathons are not on her vision board. A cozy home, a comfy couch, and a person who appreciates a calm companion would be her dream come true. Ruthie is currently working on some reactivity issues. She does not like to be disturbed while she is sleeping and will let you know when she isn't happy with how you're touching or moving her. If you’re looking for a low-key best friend with a quirky body, Ruthie is the dog for you 💖 If you are interested in finding out more about Ruthie, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Ruthie is being fostered in Shrewsbury, MA. The adoption fee is $225. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Meet Carmella: the happiest dog you'll ever meet (seriously, she looks like she's smiling all the time!) 😄🐾 If Carmella ever stars in a movie, it's going to be called "Carmella Smiles." Foster Mom swears she was simply born happy. She wakes up ready to love the world, hand out kisses like they're free samples, and convince every person, dog, and cat she meets to become her new best friend. Estimated to be around 18 months old (though she acts closer to a year), Carmella is all puppy joy wrapped up in one adorable package. She already comes when called and sits on command... staying seated, however, is another story. She has important things to do, games to play, and people to love! Her favorite pastime? PLAY. If another dog is willing, Carmella is ready for an all-day playdate. She instantly became best friends with her foster sister, is wonderfully respectful of the resident senior dog (with a little supervision so her enthusiasm doesn't accidentally bowl him over), and has even invented her own games with the resident cat. Basically, if you have four legs, Carmella assumes you're a potential teammate. When she's not zooming around, she's an Olympic-level snuggler. She loves curling up on the couch, happily sleeps in bed with her people, and also adores her crate, often choosing it on her own for naps or heading there the moment Foster Mom announces, "Bedtime!" She's house trained, crate trained, has a fantastic appetite, and absolutely lives for fetch, squeaky toys, running, and adventures. She's had a couple of poop accidents while settling into her foster home, but considering the new environment, new routine, and new food, Foster Mom expects those to disappear as she adjusts. Carmella is looking for a family that can match her zest for life. Another playful dog would be a dream come true, as would active kids or adults who enjoy getting outside and making memories together. Because she has a big voice (complete with an adorable Husky-style howl), a single-family home would probably suit her best. She'd also love a home where she isn't left alone for long stretches and has room to stretch those happy puppy legs. If your home could use more laughter, more adventure, more cuddles, and approximately 10,000 kisses a day, Carmella is ready to bring her permanent smile—and probably one to your face, too. 💕🐾 If you are interested in finding out more about Carmella, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Carmella is being fostered in Worcester, MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Meet Toby — a 5-year-old (+/-) Chihuahua with a heart full of love, a head full of opinions, and legs that are always ready to zoom. Toby is what we’d call a “selective socialite.” He’s not the type to run up to strangers and hand out friendship bracelets—but with patience (and a thorough sniff test), he’s been making progress. He’s had several positive experiences meeting new people lately, which shows how much potential he has when given time and encouragement. Basically, he’s a tiny bouncer in a fur coat who’s learning that maybe not everyone is trying to sneak into the VIP lounge. Here’s what Toby does love: 🌲 Nature walks on quiet trails, where he struts like he owns the forest. 💦 Splashing at the water’s edge—he’s not a swimmer yet, but he’s curious. 🥦 Broccoli. Yes, seriously. He’s a veggie connoisseur. 🧹 The vacuum? Not scary. Toby’s got bigger things to bark at. 🚗 Car rides are his jam—bonus points if he gets to announce his arrival out the window. 🐱 Cats? Totally fine. Zero drama there. Now, Toby isn’t without quirks. Cars on walks? He thinks they need to be put in their place, so he’ll bark and lunge to make sure they know who’s boss. Strangers? He’s still learning that new people can be okay, though he listens beautifully to direction and encouragement once he trusts his human. With patience, consistency, and maybe a little professional training, Toby has all the potential to keep growing into his best self. At home, he’s a lovable cuddle bug who adores pets and zooms around like a caffeinated squirrel when he’s excited. He’s affectionate, playful, and absolutely hilarious once he feels secure. Toby may never be your party pup or the mayor of the dog park, but he doesn’t need to be. What he will be is a fiercely loyal, endlessly entertaining little companion who will love you with everything he’s got. Adopt Toby—your spicy, snuggly adventure buddy with a bark that’s big, but a heart that’s even bigger. 🐾💚 If you are interested in finding out more about Toby, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Toby is being fostered in Groton, MA. Meet Milo 🐾 Milo is an adorable 11 lb shadow pup who loves being close to his person. Whether he’s relaxing by your side or following you from room to room, he’s happiest just being near you. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people, so he does best when allowed to approach on his own terms. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet and loving personality really shines. Milo gets excited for walks and enjoys playing with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and respectful. If a dog comes on too strong, he’ll let them know with a little growl—he’s just advocating for his space. On walks, he may get a bit over-hyped or nervous when spotting dogs from a distance, but he’s easily redirected and responds great to treats. He loves a good game of fetch and is always up for chasing a ball. Milo is also very food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding. At home, he’s an absolute dream—he sleeps wonderfully in his crate and is fully potty trained. If you are interested in finding out more about Milo, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Milo is being fostered in Grafton, MA. Story
Hopper is a sweet but sensitive little guy who takes a bit of time to warm up—but once he trusts you, he absolutely loves attention and being close to his people. He has a playful side and enjoys running around and having fun, especially when he feels comfortable in his environment. Hopper has previously lived with another dog and did very well, so he may enjoy having a canine companion again in his new home. Like many Chihuahuas, Hopper has a big personality for a small body—he can be vocal and expressive, and he definitely knows what he likes (and doesn’t like!). Cold weather is not his favorite, and he may refuse to go outside when temperatures drop.Hopper isn’t a fan of vet visits and will need some extra support, including pre-medication and a muzzle, to help keep him calm and safe during appointments. With a little patience at the start, Hopper will reward you with affection, companionship, and plenty of personality. No apartment buildings for Hopper.
